2. Question asked on survey:
What is your gender?
Reason for asking question:
I wanted to find out what genders are reading
magazines and which gender is more likely to buy my
magazine. This would also give me some ideas for
who to aim the magazine more at and what to
include.
Results:
Female- 62.79% (27 people)
Male- 32.56% (14 people)
Other- 4.65% (2 people)
What the results show:
The results show that from the 43 people that
took the survey over half of them were women
and a smaller proportion were males. This
basically says that more women did the survey
then men.
3. Question asked:
How old are you?
Reason for asking question:
I wanted to find out the average age range. This would then allow
me to find out the age that is most likely to buy the magazine and
would give me a feel to what to put in the magazine due to the age
range, I would then be able to word it and target it to the audience
according to their age.
Results:
13-16/ 27.91% (12 people)
17-21/ 32.56% (14 people)
21-25/ 9.30% (4 people)
25+/ 30.23% (13 people)
What the results show:
The results are more tightly together on this part of the
survey. Between the top 3 (3/4) there is only one person
between them. The highest amount is 17-21 then 25+ then
13-16. These results basically show that teens to young
adults (early 20’s) are the popular age category.
4. Question asked:
What would you rank your social status as?
Reason for asking question:
The reason I asked this question is because it
was ideal to find out social status to find out
the financial issue of the audience. This would
then allow me to find out how much they are
likely to spend on a magazine so I can find an
ideal price.
Results:
Upper class: 13.95% (6 people)
Middle class: 48.84% (21 people)
Lower class: 37.21% (16 people)
What the results show:
That there is more people who are in lower and
middle class then there is in upper class. This
means that I will need to make the price of the
magazine quiet cheap so that people from
lower and middle will be able to afford it. If it’s
a weekly magazine no more then £2.00 and if it
is monthly then no more then £4.00 so that
more people will buy it.

Question asked:
How many times a month do you buy
magazines?
Reason for asking the question?
I wanted to find out how many times a month people
would buy the magazine which would determine if I
should have a monthly magazine or a weekly
magazine.
Results:
What the results show:
These results show that people are more likely to buy a
magazine once or twice a month other then every week. This
means that I am more going towards a monthly magazine
then a weekly magazine as this will more likely sell and
people are more likely to buy them monthly so the prices can
be cheaper as more people will buy it .
6. Question asked:
What do you look for in a magazine?
Why I asked the question:
I asked this question because I need to know what
people actually want to see and what they want to
gain out of my magazine and magazines in general.
Asking this question meant that I would know what
to include and not include in my magazine and it
would stop me from including things that are
pointless and people didn’t want to actually see.
Results: Colour- 4.36
Promotion- 4.16
Freebies- 3.87
Competition- 3.75
Reviews- 3.76
Interviews- 3.58
Text-3.44
Images- 3.38
What the results show:
The results show that the top 3 things wanted in a
magazine are colour, promotion and freebies. This
means that I need to make the magazine catchy with
a lot of colour, promotion and free things. So I am
going to add these on the magazine before the other
things which I will do before everything else on the
magazine. This was a good question because I now
know what I need to add for people to buy the
magazine.
7. Question asked:
What is the ideal price you would spend
on a magazine?
Why I asked the question:
So that I could find out how much money people
would be willing to spend on a magazine so I could
create an ideal price.
Results:

What do the results show:
These results show that more people will want to spend £1.00-
£3.00 a week. However from some of the other research I have
found that people want to buy magazines monthly. The results
for monthly prices are very close but more people (by 1 vote)
wanted the £3.00-£5.00 per month.
So I will settle on the monthly scale and figure out a price.
8. Question asked:
Why I asked the question:
Results:
What the results show:
What is your favourite genre of music?
I wanted to know this so that I knew what music was
more popular so I knew which music to include in my
magazine. I wanted to do this so that I could include
music that people actually want instead of it being a
waste.
The results were pretty different in these results.
Pop was the most favourite option then it was
classic rock and rock. In contrast to my magazine I
now have more of a idea of what people want to
see in the magazine. However this is one of the
main things for the magazine so what I will do is
carry on the research and then decided finally.
However i will be taking these into consideration as
I know what style people don’t want in my
magazine.
Pop- 13
Classic rock- 8
Rock-6
Kpop- 5
Alternative Rock- 5
Pop punk- 6
Indie- 3
9. Question asked:
Why I asked the question:
Results:
What the results show:
Would you subscribe to a monthly subscription?
I wanted to know if it would be worth having a monthly
subscription on the magazine and who would actually subscribe or
not. There are many pros and cons for monthly subscriptions so I
wanted to see what the general outcome was realistically.
Yes- 22
No- 23
These results again were one figure difference. More people
(by 1 ) didn’t want/ wouldn’t subscribe to a monthly
subscription. As this is nearly half and half split I will look at
other factors before deciding if I will add a subscription to the
magazine I make or not.
10. Question asked:
Why I asked the question:
Results:
What the results show:
What photos would you prefer?
I asked this question because my magazine is going to have
many photos in the content, but there is many different styles
of photos and photography so this means that the
opportunities are very wide. I chose 3 styles that I could do and
asked people to vote on which ones they liked better to see
what they wanted.
Quality studio portraits- 18
Fun but staged images-14
Concert photos- 13
These results were not too close between what
people wanted and it is quiet clear that people
want quality studio portraits for the images in
the magazine. This means I’m going to base a lot
of my images on this result but may still add a
few different styles.
11. Question asked:
Why I asked the question:
Results:
What the results show:
What attracts you to a music magazine?
I wanted to find out more about the physical attraction to the magazine
(the looks) so I asked this so I knew what to include more off and what I
should prioritise.
Favourite band/ singer- 24
Freebies and promotions-9
Bold catchy titles- 4
Bright colours- 3
Interviews- 2
Story lines- 2
These results show what people want. The one that
stands out most is the ‘favourite band/ singer’
however this is harder to do as it may not be
everyone's choice so this is quiet hard to do; on the
other hand I gives me a clear idea of what it will have
to look like and how it will have to be designed.
The top 3 were Favourite band/ singer, freebies and
promotions and bold catchy titles. This has given me a
wider idea of what I will need to include in my final
outcome.
