AUDIENCE
RESEARCH
This question was put o the survey so that I could
find out the average age of my audience. This will
then allow me to be able to make a campaign
suited to the age.
The result of this question was the majority of my
audience was 16-18, however there were also
audience in each band up until 40+.This means
my main focus will be in the 16- 18 however I will
make sure the campaign can be appealing for an
older audience. My campaign and subject is not
really aimed at a certain age as it can occur in any
age group and also needs awareness in all age
groups.
This could have been an issue as I am not going
to have this exact audience all the time and my
research would have to be more varied to get a
better look on the audience.
Overall this question was really beneficial as it
allowed me to understand my audience more
and I was able to get an idea on what I need the
work to look like to appeal to the correct
audience.
This next question was put there as it is the most
commonly heard sayings about rape. It is a really
casual comment that gets passed off from as
young as primary school children.
This is something that I wanted to put in so that I
could have a clear understanding for myself to
see how common this saying is.
This was a really outstanding result as 88% of
the people who took my survey have heard this
saying.
This shows that the saying is really commonly
heard and as the people from my survey are all
from different locations and backgrounds it
shows that this is heard on a much larger scale.
Overall this was a really good question with
good results as it supported the survey matter of
stigma around rape and sexual assault.
This question was very wide spread and I knew that I was
going to get a variety of responses from it.This is not the
sort of question that there is a yes or no, right or wrong
answer.
I put this there so that people could select the stigmas they
have heard of.There wasn’t a limit so that means people
could select as many as they wanted.
The results from this were helpful to me as it allowed me to
be able to see what stigmas are used the most. As I want to
include these in my campaign it is more than helpful to have
stigmas and statements that people do have/ have heard of.
From this it was clear that the top 4 have been heard of the
most, meaning when it comes to my campaign it will be
much easier to create content from these four then it is to
make content for all of the stigmas. The most four common
ones in popularity order were:
“They were drunk”
“Their clothing was revealing”
“They didn’t say no”
“They were in a relationship”
This means that I can work with these four stigmas more
and create content based on these other than making
content for less known stigmas.
For this question it was to look at the more serious side of
rape and sexual assault. Away from the stigma I wanted to
know how many people knew the reality of the rape culture
we live in.
Only 7 people, 20% of my survey audience got this
percentage right. I have a few sexual assault survivors and
even them admitting they didn’t realise how low the
conviction levels were.
Granted this is not something people will know and granted
that some people were close to the actual percentage this
was a good way to see how the rape culture is, people tend to
be really oblivious about the reality of rape and the way that
the world is with it.
This was a good response to highlight the reality and the way
that society forms around the matter.
Overall a really strong question to find out the way people
think about the matter.
This was another statistic question that was put in
so I could get an idea on the stigma and
knowledge.
The results of this was varied, more people got this
one right with 31% of people. Some people
thought it was a lot higher which was expected;
however, the part which was more shocking is 20%
of people thought it was much lower, this is
something I didn’t really expect but it shows how
some people think there is little reports.
Even though this question had a lot more variety
that I wasn’t expecting this was still really helpful
as more people 48%, nearly half of the audience
thought that the percentage was much greater.
This shows the stigma around rape and how
society thinks that people do report the crimes.
This question was a good way to get more open
knowledge.
I designed this question like question 3. It was to get
a better understanding on what stigmas people
have heard of.This again was so that I could create
a campaign that was actually going to be of use
with the audience.
Again this was designed so that I could have a
variety of responses.Three out of the four have
been heard of.This means when it comes to making
the campaign I can work with the other three.
“men can’t get raped” was the most heard of by
about 20% so this gives a indication of a starting
point. I will use this information with my campaign
to produce something accordingly to the audiences
response.
For this question I designed it so that the
audience could give me some stigma around
sexual assault. If you look at the results of this
and then look at the stigma on sexual assault
you can see some links.
This really shows what people feel is the main
reason of sexual assault. This can be a personal
experience, media or word of mouth influence.
Most people thought that being drunk and
walking home alone were the main reason
people get sexually assaulted.Where as no one
thought that going to parties was a reason get
assaulted.
This result is not shocking as some of the
factors that people feel like this is the rape
culture we live in.
From these results I can make campaigns and
plan my work around what people feel, because
it is not always black and white, which is what
the stigma makes you think.
This was like the previous question. I put it in to
get information out of my audience to support
stigmas.
Again with these results I can plan my
campaigns around this information so that
people can understand it more and I can make
sure that I cover more stigmas.
All of the places on this survey have been
locations of where people have been sexually
assaulted and reported it.
Most people thought a club, which doesn’t
surprise me at all because club equals alcohol,
alcohol equals drunk girls which means rape in
modern day society.
What did shock me was the amount of people
that said an empty house and in work places, I
half expected these to not have any people but
they had 20-25% of people saying so.
In the streets in day light and in school had 0%
which shows that these are the places that are
more dismissed. This can be used in my
campaign to show that it can happen
anywhere.
This question was just a general question to
support existing knowledge.
94% of people said that they think stigma is the
reason that people don’t come forward with their
cases. This was as expected as it is pretty self
explanatory.
This like stated was just to support existing
knowledge, meaning that I can make a campaign
to help stop stigma.
This was the final question. It was put in place
so that I could get some idea on how people felt
about the controversial issue of victim vs
perpetrator.
This is a massive issue in the rape culture as
there are so many false cases and at times the
truth gets hidden. However in all legitimate
cases it is never the victims fault, no one asks to
be assaulted and mentally scared for life.
There were only 4 people, 11% of responses
who said yes it can be the victims fault. This
doesn’t really shock me as I know the reality of
society and often the victim can be blamed for
their actions, even in a court room.
This all comes back to stigma and the way
people see rape and sexual assault. The way it is
portrayed creates this stigma and belief that
yes it can be the victims fault.
I will use this to help me to build the campaign
up and produce work of use to help back
victims and their stigma.

This is a massive issue in the rape culture as there are so many false cases and at times the truth gets hidden. However in all legitimate cases it is never the victims fault, no one asks to be assaulted and mentally scared for life. There were only 4 people, 11% of responses who said yes it can be the victims fault. This doesn’t really shock me as I know the reality of society and often the victim can be blamed for their actions, even in a court room. This all comes back to stigma and the way people see rape and sexual assault. The way it is portrayed creates this stigma and belief that yes it can be the victims fault. I will use this to help me to build the campaign up and produce work of use to help back victims and their stigma.
