Today we will review:
1. Turning Dreams into Reality
2. Set Effective goals using SMART
3. Tracking Progress to Accomplish your Goals
4. Make a little money
5. Have a little fun
 First make sure your dreams are in alignment
with your beliefs and values.
 People do things for two reasons:
Gain Pleasure
Avoid Pain
 If you don’t know where you are headed, any
path will get you there
 “The moment of enlightenment is when a
person’s dreams of possibilities become
images of probabilities.”
Vic Braden
 “Don’t be afraid of the space between your
dreams and reality. If you can dream it, you
can make it so.”
Belva Davis
 S = Specific
 M = Measurable
 A = Attainable
 R = Realistic
 T = Timely
 Goals should be straightforward and
emphasize what you want to happen.
 Specific is the What, Why, and How of the
SMART model.
 WHAT are you going to do? Use action words
such as direct, organize, coordinate, lead,
develop, plan, build etc.
 WHY is this important to do at this time? What
do you want to ultimately accomplish?
 HOW are you going to do it?
 If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage
it
 Choose a goal with measurable progress, so
you can see the change occur. Be specific!
 Establish criteria for measuring progress
toward the attainment of each goal .When
you measure your progress, you stay on
track, reach your target dates, and
experience the exhilaration of achievement
that spurs you on to continued effort
required to reach your goals.
 When you identify goals that are most
important to you, you begin to figure out
ways you can make them come true. You
develop that attitudes, abilities, skills, and
financial capacity to reach them.
 Goals you set which are too far out of your
reach, you probably won’t commit to doing.
 Realistic, in this case, means “do-able” not
easy. A realistic project may push the skills
and knowledge of the people working on it
but it shouldn’t break them.
 Devise a plan or a way of getting there which
makes the goal realistic.
 Be sure to set goals that you can attain with
some effort.
 Set the bar high enough for a satisfying
achievement.
 Set a time target on all goals. This keeps you
focused and hold you accountable
 If you don’t set a time, the commitment is too
vague.
 Without a time limit, there’s no urgency to start
taking action now.
 Split it up in to steps if the goal is
overwhelming
Money is fun right?
 How to apply this at your workplace?
 Substitute word Goals for objectives
 Are they aligned with you Job Description
 Are they measurable and did you write them
down
 Can you name your last 20 accomplishments
in your current position?
 Obstacle
 Process to overcome
 What it accomplished $$
 Evaluate your current Situation
 Review objectives
 Rewrite Job description
 Review existing goals
 Create your SMART goals for the up coming
year.
Start by doing what’s necessary, then what’s
possible, and suddenly you are doing the
impossible.

Achieve Your Dreams Through Effective Goal Setting

  • 2. Today we will review: 1. Turning Dreams into Reality 2. Set Effective goals using SMART 3. Tracking Progress to Accomplish your Goals 4. Make a little money 5. Have a little fun
  • 3.  First make sure your dreams are in alignment with your beliefs and values.  People do things for two reasons: Gain Pleasure Avoid Pain  If you don’t know where you are headed, any path will get you there
  • 4.  “The moment of enlightenment is when a person’s dreams of possibilities become images of probabilities.” Vic Braden  “Don’t be afraid of the space between your dreams and reality. If you can dream it, you can make it so.” Belva Davis
  • 5.  S = Specific  M = Measurable  A = Attainable  R = Realistic  T = Timely
  • 6.  Goals should be straightforward and emphasize what you want to happen.  Specific is the What, Why, and How of the SMART model.  WHAT are you going to do? Use action words such as direct, organize, coordinate, lead, develop, plan, build etc.  WHY is this important to do at this time? What do you want to ultimately accomplish?  HOW are you going to do it?
  • 7.  If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it  Choose a goal with measurable progress, so you can see the change occur. Be specific!  Establish criteria for measuring progress toward the attainment of each goal .When you measure your progress, you stay on track, reach your target dates, and experience the exhilaration of achievement that spurs you on to continued effort required to reach your goals.
  • 8.  When you identify goals that are most important to you, you begin to figure out ways you can make them come true. You develop that attitudes, abilities, skills, and financial capacity to reach them.  Goals you set which are too far out of your reach, you probably won’t commit to doing.
  • 9.  Realistic, in this case, means “do-able” not easy. A realistic project may push the skills and knowledge of the people working on it but it shouldn’t break them.  Devise a plan or a way of getting there which makes the goal realistic.  Be sure to set goals that you can attain with some effort.  Set the bar high enough for a satisfying achievement.
  • 10.  Set a time target on all goals. This keeps you focused and hold you accountable  If you don’t set a time, the commitment is too vague.  Without a time limit, there’s no urgency to start taking action now.  Split it up in to steps if the goal is overwhelming
  • 11. Money is fun right?
  • 12.  How to apply this at your workplace?  Substitute word Goals for objectives  Are they aligned with you Job Description  Are they measurable and did you write them down  Can you name your last 20 accomplishments in your current position?  Obstacle  Process to overcome  What it accomplished $$
  • 13.  Evaluate your current Situation  Review objectives  Rewrite Job description  Review existing goals  Create your SMART goals for the up coming year.
