4. RESEARCH BEFORETHE SEMINAR
• To be honest, I didn't really know what to expect from this seminar.
• When doing some research on the speaker I found out that Steve Miller was a guitarist,
but this made me conclude that this would probably not the person going to give us the
seminar.
• Extra research was not satisfying my information need, yet I wanted to attend this session
as the title was very attractive.
5. NOTES DURINGTHE SESSION
• As I did not have a really motivation to go to this session,I have provided you my notes instead.
• THE GAME PLAN
• Playing
• Deciding
• Responding
• To ace something (v):To do something really well,to complete with excellent results.
• An ace (n):person who excels at an activity, who succeeds
e.g.SerenaWilliams.Snoopy.Clark Kent.
• It (pron):Something, whatever you want it to be.
6. HOW TO BE AN ACE?
How to be an ace?
Try to be
the best,
always!
And love your job…
If you love
your job, it’s
not a job
anymore!
7. Ted talk –Try something new for 30 Days.
Choose some of the 30 day challenges
Take one of them and use theACE questions to consider his bigger outcomes.
Think about something you always wanted to add to your life. And add it.
• Take a picture everyday for a month.
• Write a novel in 30 days.
• Give up sugar for 30 days.
• Cycling.
• 10 000 steps a day.
Small changes were more likely to stick than big crazy challenges
8. REFLECTION
• I am very happy that I attended this seminar! I didn’t really know what this seminar would
be about but to be honest I learned a lot.The seminar was mostly on how life can be
perfect. You should always challenge yourself and the speaker does this by doing 30 day
challenges which make him happy if he succeeds in doing them. Further you have to ace
for new goals and adventures. He also mentioned you should enjoy your work and live
your dream. Further he mentioned that you should be an ace as well, which means to be
the best one when doing something.
• This seminar was really something for me as it actually is a lot about me, I love challenges
and always want to be the best. I love my work and live my dream.
10. RESEARCH BEFORETHE SEMINAR
• I just took my documents I had made about Doing business in China for the curse of
intercultural communication from the first semester. I reread what was in the document
to get some background knowledge for this seminar.
• Further, I was also very curious about what the speaker would be talking about and if it
would match on what I presented in class what was important when doing business in
China.
11. MOTIVATION
• As mentioned during my previous slide, I have done an assignment – read presentation –
on doing business in China for the course of Intercultural Communication.
• I wanted to follow this seminar as I wanted to know if all the things we had mentioned
during our presentation were indeed true and to get some extra information on doing
business in China. I thought it would be important as china is very important nowadays
to conduct business with.To end, I am studying Chinese as well,so extra information
about china and their habits are always welcome, knowing that I will probably conduct
business with the Chinese in the future.
12. REFLECTION
• Mrs. Boden was a very good presenter and she talked about a lot of subjects we
mentioned during ur presentation as well. This gave us a very good feeling. It gave us the
idea that we did our research very well.Further, we learned some extra things as well
and so this seminar was satisfying all my needs that I had when I chose this seminar.
Good and very interesting presentation, I’m very glad I attended!
14. RESEARCH BEFORETHE SEMINAR
• My research for this seminar brought me to various websites that gave me extra tips
when conducting business with the US. I got tips about how the Americans were doing
there business, what kind of people they were and how the normal business deal was
closed. The usual stuff if you ask me. I have also found extra information on how the
consumer were spending money in the US and how you could take this into
consideration when starting a business there or moving your business you have here to
the United States ofAmerica. When researching about the speaker, I didn’t really found
much about her.
15. MOTIVATION
• As I am moving to New York next semester, I thought it might be very intersting in
understanding the American way of doing business, certainly when you go studying
Business Administration at Monroe College,New York.
• Further, the US is a country that has always interested me very much. Next to that, I
wanted to meet anAmerican person in real life.
• I was just very much unknown about how to start up a business there and I thought the
speaker might give some important tips and tricks on how to do business withAmerican
citizens.
16. REFLECTION
• WOW, I am so glad that I chose this seminar. I have learned so many things and I can say
even some things that I would never have thought of. As I mentioned already, next
semester I am going to study in the US at Monroe College,New York. When studying
business administration, you have to deal with calculations and number. What I learned
during this seminar that had the biggest impact on me was the way that amercians write
their numbers. This totally differes from our way of writing a 1, 2, 3, 4 5, 6, 7, 8,9 and 10.
Certainly the 1, 7 and 9 were suprising. Further, it was very interesting the way she also
gave us a quiz and exercises during this quite interactive seminar. I’m happy!
18. RESEARCH BEFORETHE SEMINAR
• I have found out that this speaker was the brother of our teacher Mrs.Van den Bergh.
• Further I found that cross generational marketing is marketing that talks about the
different markets when talking about consumers. The consumer at the age of 25 do not
buy the same products than the consumer aged 60.This interested me and wanted me to
attend this seminar.
• I have found the description of generation X,Y and Z and a presentation of Joeri Van den
Bergh himself called: ‘Who’s up NXT?’.The company Joeri works for is NXTGen
Marketing.
19. MOTIVATION
• As marketing is one of my favorite subjects in class, I thought it might be incredible
wonderful to attend this seminar on cross generational marketing. This subject is in fact
the future concept and if there is one thing that my personal entrepreneurial skills make
me think about, it is my personal future as well.Thinking ahead is very important when
doing business and I was very interested in marketing. The slideshow that was I found on
the internet was very interesting, yet I wanted to get some more information and
explanation about some certain concepts as they were not really clear by seeing the
slidecast the first time. That’s why I wanted to attend this seminar.
20. REFLECTION
• I am very glad to have attended this seminar about cross generational marketing. It was
really an eye opening presentation that made me think about the market and consuments
in a totally different way as before. The speaker was very creative in the way he
presented the idea of this presentation. It was very nice to get the little questions in
between to get the answers afterwards. It made the seminar more interactive and not
was boring as seminars tend to be sometimes. It gave me insights in a new way of
presenting as well. This might be handy for my future job as manager in which I certainly
will have to deal with marketing and presenting.
21. ZERO TO ONE
FILIP NUYTEMANS AND WOUTER ADRIAENS | 7.30 – 9 PM, APRIL 21ST, 2016 |
AUDITORIUM QUETELET
22. RESEARCH BEFORETHE SEMINAR
• On the facebook page of this event, I have found out that during this event, three
speakers would show up. During my research, I found that only two of the three speakers
were interesting in my opinion so I only looked up their subjects. The first one was about
Uber and the whole idea. I knew what uber was but I have looked to what Uber had
achieved through the days and researched their different departments and managers, so I
found out that the speaker for UBER was the general manager of Uber Belgium. This
took my attention. Next I had never heard about Quivr. I started searching the net and
found out what Quivr was.A tool – read app – made for and by students.
23. MOTIVATION
• Everyone nowadays knows what UBER is. I have used UBER during my San Francisco
study trip plenty of times, and I personally think this is a great invention or idea. Further, I
have read the newspapers as well and wanted to get some more information on the
struggles UBER has had when trying to establish UBER on the Belgian market. I hoped
getting this information during this seminar.About quivr I hoped to get more information
how the idea was founded and how they achieved putting the idea they had into reality.
An app made for students by students was thus really something I wanted to get some
more information about.
24. REFLECTION
• I am very happy that I attended this session about UBER and QUIVR. In the beginning the
speakers were aware that a few student of IBM Artevelde were present and asked to the
audience if everyone was ok that the presentation would be completely in English. No one
had offence, so we were lucky.I learned about the problems UBER struggled and still struggles
with.About how UBER is trying to change the Belgian legislation on taxi drivers as the law
that still counts for them dates back to the 1970’s.They think an outdated law is not a good
base to build new technologies on.About QUIVR I learned that the founders chose to make
the product free of use and made a non profit organization. Which was very interesting to
learn why they thought this option would be better than an other. Further they explained
how QUIVR was founded and established, by surrounding you with people who are better
than you in certain subjects.(Cfr. Student specialized in legal aspects, app development,…)
