Clinical Chemistry
● Perform automated and semi-automated procedures on blood chemistry tests such as Glucose, Lipid Panel
(Cholesterol, Triglycerides, HDL, LDL, VLDL), Non-protein Nitrogenous substances (BUN, BUA, Creatinine),
Proteins (Total Protein, Albumin, Globulin), Liver Function Tests, Bilirubin and Enzymes (Amylase, Lipase,
Transaminases, Phosphatases, GGT, LDH), Cardiac Markers and Panels (CK-MB and Troponins), Arterial Blood
Gases, Serum Electrolytes (Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, Chloride), Glycosylated Hemoglobin, and some special
tests such as Random and 24-hour Urine Creatinine (Clearance Test), CSF Glucose and Protein
● Run daily control or standard when necessary before starting any tests, making sure that all control values are
within allowable range to come up with reliable and accurate results
● Regularly check the availability and expiry of reagents, controls and standards
Hematology
● Perform tests such as automated and/or manual complete blood count (CBC), differential count, white blood cell
and red blood cell count, reticulocyte count, platelet count, hemoglobin and hematocrit determination, Malarial
parasite detection, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and coagulation and hemostasis test procedures such as
clotting/bleeding time, prothrombin (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT)
Blood Bank and Serology-Immunology
● Perform ABO and Rh blood typing, compatibility testing of donor and recepient, Coombs test, blood component
processing (whole blood, packed RBC, platelet concentrate, and fresh frozen plasma)
● Screening of potential blood donors utilizing all the required parameters, and bleeding of screened and qualified
blood donors
● Do serological and diagnostic tests such as c-reactive protein (CRP), antinuclear antibody (ANA), RA Factor,
antistreptolysin-O (ASO), syphilis antibody testing, and qualitative and/or quantitative determination of Hepatitis
3. Panel (HBsAg, Anti-HBsAg, Anti-HCV, Anti-HAV, Anti-HBc, Anti-HBe), Thyroid Panel (TSH, Total T3 and T4),
Tumor Markers (prostate specific antigen (PSA), alpha-feto protein (AFP), carcino-embryonic antigen (CEA)
Microbiology
● Do procedures such as Gram staining of specimen for routine culture, thin and thick blood smear for Malarial
parasites (Wright and Giemsa stain technique), direct and indirect smear for Acid-Fast bacilli (Zeihl-Neelsen
Technique), KOH and India Ink for fungal elements
● Perform culture and sensitivity tests of samples from blood, urine, sputum, cerebrospinal fluid, and other sources
for isolation and identification of pathogenic microorganisms
● Prepare and maintain availability of culture media, staining solutions, and other reagents
Clinical Microscopy
● Perform routine urinalysis, stool examination for presence of ova and parasites, fecal occult blood, Micral test,
pregnancy test and semen analysis
● Do gross and microscopic evaluation and cell/differential count on cerebrospinal, synovial, and other pertinent
body fluids
Histopathology
● Receive and process tissue specimens for biopsy; prepare reagents and staining solutions and assist in tissue
preparation and processing (fixation, dehydration, staining, clearing, mounting on slides, cleaning and labeling)
before submission to Pathologist for evaluation
Phlebotomy Section
● Maintain adequate and constant supply of the following on the warding tray; tourniquet, gloves, sample tubes,
syringes and needles, alcohol/antiseptic swab and gauze, waste receptacle and puncture-resistant container
● Gather and collect accurate patient information, identification, and laboratory work request, and subsequent proper
labeling of samples collected before delivering the specimen to the specific section for testing
● Review and inspect laboratory result for correctness before reporting or dispatch
