This Diploma Supplement model was developed by the European Commission, Council of Europe and uNEsco/cEpEs.
The purpose ofthe supplement is to provide sufficient independent data to improve the international 'transparency'
and fair academic and professional recognition of qualifications (diplomas, degrees, certificates etc.). lt is designed to
provide a description ofthe nature, level, context, content and status ofthe studies that were pursued and successfully
completed by the individual named on the original qualification to which this supplement is appended. lt should
be free from any value judgements, equivalence statements or suggestions about recognition. lnformation in all
eightsections should be provided. where information is not provided, an explanation should give the reason why.

gndingschemeend, ifavailable, gradedistributionguidance The student's success at an exam, a preliminary exam or any specific
type ofassessment is graded byfive grades and their numerical equiv-
alents: excellent (5), very good (4), good (3), sufficient (z) and insuffi-
cient (r). The grade "insufficient (r)" is not a passing grade. With written
exams, absolute grading is applied, i.e. the number of acquired points
with respect to the required minimum for acertain grade is expressed.
The grades assigned through preliminary exams are created on the ba-
sis of individual grades for each preliminary exam. The grade assigned
through a specific type ofassessment is determined on the basis of
grades assigned for completed tasks. Some courses are not graded, and
the fact that all obligations have been fulfilled is marked by the "+,' sign
in the attested copy ofgrade-sheets.

l.l Types ofinstitutions
uNrvERsrr Es (sveuii/i5to) are institutions of h iqher education which offer university study
programmes in at least two research areas and/or art areas covering a number of disci-
plines. Exceptionally, universities may also offer vocational study programmes. Universities
may be comprised of constituent units which are legal entities and which are called rrcur-
IEs (fokulteti) or ARrrcrotur es (um.ietriike okodeml.l-e). Universities and their constituent
units offer study programmes, and engage in research and other professional and art-relat-
ed work-
poLyrEcHNrcs (veleufi/iito) and scHoors oF vocATroNAL HToHER EDUCATToN (visoke ikole)
are higher education institutions which offer vocational study programmes. The two types
of institution differ in the range of programmes they offer: polytechnics are institutions of
vocational higher education which offervocational study programmes in three or more dis-
ciplines. Their mission is to offer career-oriented programmes, which often include practical
work experience.
Public universities are established by law; public polytechnics and schools ofvocational
higher education are established by a decree ofthe Croatian Government; private higher
eduation institutions are established by the founder.
Types of prcgrmmes
uNrvERsny sruDy pRoGRAMMEs prepare students for work in research and higher education
institutions, as well as in private and public sectors. students in these programmes receive
an educat;on that enables them to develop and use scholarly and professional knowledge at
the appropriate level.
vocATroNAL sruDy pnocnluves provide students with a career-ready level ofknowledge,
skills and competences required for work in specific vocations.
Accreditation ofhigher eduetion insthutions and study prcgnmmes
Higher education institutions (HEls) and their study programmes are subject to an evalua-
tibn process in order to get accreditation. The request for accreditation is submitted to the
Ministry in charge ofhighereducation, which then requests an evaluation from the National
Council for Higher Education (NcHE). The Ncxe appoints an expert committee which, in
cooperation with the Agenryfor Science and Higher Education, performs the evaluation and
submits a report. A draft repon is thdn sent to the HEI for feedback and clarifications. The
National Council makes a final evaluation ofthe proposed study programme or ofthe higher
education institution and recommends to the minister issuance or denial ofaccreditation.
Organisation of univenityr study prcgnmmes

apply, underconditions determined by universities, fortransfertoa universitydiploma study
programme (with the proviso oftaking differential exams) and admission to a university
postgraduate programme.
Educational requircments for rdmission into study progremmes
Higher education institutions independently set the min;mum educational requirements
for admission to university undergraduate programmes and first rycle vocational pro-
grammes. Normally, the minimum requirement for admission to university undergraduate
programmes is completion ofa four-year secondary school; the minimum requirement for
enrolment into first cycle vocational programmes is completion ofa three- orfour-year sec-
ondary school.
The admissions process to first cycle study programmes at Croatian universities is normally
based on secondary school grades and an entrance examination. Each constituent unit of
a university usually carries out its own entrance examination.'The admissions process to
first cycle prognmmes at polytechnics and schools of vocational higher education is also
based on secondary school grades and sometimes an entrance examination, but the use of
the latter is less common than in the case ofuniversities.
The minimum educational requirement for enrolment in university graduate programmes
is completion of a university undergraduate programme. Universities can allow students
with a higher education vocational degree to enrol in university graduate programmes under
specially defi ned requirements.
The minimum educational requirement for enrolment in vocational specialist graduate pro-
grammes is completion of a university undergraduate programme or a vocational pro-
gramme (first rycle). The minimum educational requirement for enrolment in university
postgraduate programmes is completion ofa specific Araduate programme. Normally, the
requirement for enrolment in a university postgraduate programme is completion ofa uni-
versity graduate programme. Students who have completed pre-Bologna undergraduate
programmes lasting at least four academic years (sveuEiliini dodiplomski studi) can apply
for admission to Bologna postgraduate programmes as well.
Grading scale
The Croatian national grading scale consists offive gmdes with numerical equivalents:
izvrston-5 (excellent); vrlodobor-q (verygood); dobar-3(good);dovoljon-z(suffi-
cient); nedovoljon -r (fail). The minimum passing grade is z (sufficient).

  • 3. gndingschemeend, ifavailable, gradedistributionguidance The student's success at an exam, a preliminary exam or any specific type ofassessment is graded byfive grades and their numerical equiv- alents: excellent (5), very good (4), good (3), sufficient (z) and insuffi- cient (r). The grade "insufficient (r)" is not a passing grade. With written exams, absolute grading is applied, i.e. the number of acquired points with respect to the required minimum for acertain grade is expressed. The grades assigned through preliminary exams are created on the ba- sis of individual grades for each preliminary exam. The grade assigned through a specific type ofassessment is determined on the basis of grades assigned for completed tasks. Some courses are not graded, and the fact that all obligations have been fulfilled is marked by the "+,' sign in the attested copy ofgrade-sheets. overallclassificetion ofthe qualification Cummulative grade point average: 4.089 INFORMATION ON THE FUNCTION OFTHE QUALIFICATION .ccesstofurtherstudy Uponthecompletionoftheundergraduateuniversitystudyprogramme student can apply for admission to graduate university programmes or special i st professional g rad uate prog rammes. profesrionalstatus The holder ofthis qualification is entitled to bear the legally protected academic title of Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering (Univ. Exceptionally, universities may also offer vocational study programmes. Universities may be comprised of constituent units which are legal entities and which are called rrcur- IEs (fokulteti) or ARrrcrotur es (um.ietriike okodeml.l-e). The two types of institution differ in the range of programmes they offer: polytechnics are institutions of vocational higher education which offervocational study programmes in three or more dis- ciplines. Their mission is to offer career-oriented programmes, which often include practical work experience. Public universities are established by law; public polytechnics and schools ofvocational higher education are established by a decree ofthe Croatian Government; private higher eduation institutions are established by the founder. Types of prcgrmmes uNrvERsny sruDy pRoGRAMMEs prepare students for work in research and higher education institutions, as well as in private and public sectors. students in these programmes receive an educat;on that enables them to develop and use scholarly and professional knowledge at the appropriate level. vocATroNAL sruDy pnocnluves provide students with a career-ready level ofknowledge, skills and competences required for work in specific vocations. Accreditation ofhigher eduetion insthutions and study prcgnmmes Higher education institutions (HEls) and their study programmes are subject to an evalua- tibn process in order to get accreditation. The request for accreditation is submitted to the Ministry in charge ofhighereducation, which then requests an evaluation from the National Council for Higher Education (NcHE). The Ncxe appoints an expert committee which, in cooperation with the Agenryfor Science and Higher Education, performs the evaluation and submits a report. A draft repon is thdn sent to the HEI for feedback and clarifications. The National Council makes a final evaluation ofthe proposed study programme or ofthe higher education institution and recommends to the minister issuance or denial ofaccreditation. Organisation of univenityr study prcgnmmes Since zoo5, all study programmes in Croatia merure student work load in eqrs credits. The admissions process to first cycle study programmes at Croatian universities is normally based on secondary school grades and an entrance examination. Each constituent unit of a university usually carries out its own entrance examination.'The admissions process to first cycle prognmmes at polytechnics and schools of vocational higher education is also based on secondary school grades and sometimes an entrance examination, but the use of the latter is less common than in the case ofuniversities. The minimum educational requirement for enrolment in university graduate programmes is completion of a university undergraduate programme. Universities can allow students with a higher education vocational degree to enrol in university graduate programmes under specially defi ned requirements. The minimum educational requirement for enrolment in vocational specialist graduate pro- grammes is completion of a university undergraduate programme or a vocational pro- gramme (first rycle). The minimum educational requirement for enrolment in university postgraduate programmes is completion ofa specific Araduate programme.
