My name is Glenda Cox and I am the UNESCO chair in Open Education and Social Justice. I am an academic at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. I became chair at the end of last year.
The role of Open education in ensuring more equitable access to education is now a mainstream concept in global higher education. During the course of this year I have authored several papers and chapters that use a social justice lens to examine the role of open textbooks to increase access and representation in knowledge production. I have also collaborated with four international chairs to write a paper on Micro-credentials.
As Chair I have presented locally, nationally, and internationally. and I will be part of a panel on Decolonising Global South Knowledge in October.
The chair has opened-up an opportunity to be a journal editor, the International Journal of Students as Partners and I have been invited to visit and speak in the US in January 2023. I have also begun conversations with funders.
Open education has a crucial role in transforming knowledge for a just and sustainable future.
