CLIL: Lesson Plan
Topic: Environmental awareness
Aims:
To recognize the power of men over the environment.
To recognize the importance of preserving the Planet Earth.
To learn ways of helping the Planet through a video.
To use can to describe the things we can do to help the Planet.
To use the modals should and shouldn’t to give advice about how to help the Planet.
To learn vocabulary about the environment.
To learn actions related to helping the Planet.
To write sentences about actions to help the Planet.
To create posters about environmental awareness.
To plant a tree or create a vegetable garden to make students aware of the importance of
the plants.
To paint a T-shirt to promote environmental awareness.
Content:
Specific vocabulary about environmental awareness.
Different ways to help the environment.
Advising others about environmental awareness.
Language:
Grammar: can, do / don’t
Lexis: vocabulary related to environmental awareness and actions.
Functions: talking about ways to help the environment.
Macro-skills:
 Speaking: talking about ways to help taking care of the environment.
 Writing: writing sentences about things we can do to take care of the
Planet Earth.
 Listening: Listening for specific information and labelling.
 Reading: reading specific sentences.
Lesson procedure:
Activity 1:
Watch the following series of videos “Animals save the Planet”. Elicit ideas from students of what
they have seen in the video.

Explain specific vocabulary of different actions (related to helping the environment). Use an
Interactive Power Point presentation to explain actions with images and vocabulary.
Activity 2:
Give Ss a worksheet with different images and sentences (the same or similar as the Power Point
presentation). Ss have to match the pictures with each sentence.
Activity 3:
Oral discussion.
Ask the following question:
What can we do to help the planet?
Ss can answer this question by making use of the sentences and vocabulary that was used in the
Power Point presentation.
Activity 4:
Hand out a worksheet in which Ss have to paint “good things to do” with green and “bad things to
do” with red.
Activity 5:
In groups create posters promoting environmental awareness that will be placed on the school
walls.
Activity 6:
Project: Plant a tree or create a vegetable garden in the school.
Activity 7:
With the help of the Art teacher, paint on T-shirts (that Ss will bring) eco-friendly logos to promote
environmental awareness.

CLIL lesson plan- "Environmental Awareness"

  • 1. CLIL lesson plan- UNLPam CLIL: Lesson Plan Topic: Environmental awareness Aims: To recognize the power of men over the environment. To recognize the importance of preserving the Planet Earth. To learn ways of helping the Planet through a video. To use can to describe the things we can do to help the Planet. To use the modals should and shouldn’t to give advice about how to help the Planet. To learn vocabulary about the environment. To learn actions related to helping the Planet. To write sentences about actions to help the Planet. To create posters about environmental awareness. To plant a tree or create a vegetable garden to make students aware of the importance of the plants. To paint a T-shirt to promote environmental awareness. Content: Specific vocabulary about environmental awareness. Different ways to help the environment. Advising others about environmental awareness. Language: Grammar: can, do / don’t Lexis: vocabulary related to environmental awareness and actions. Functions: talking about ways to help the environment. Macro-skills:  Speaking: talking about ways to help taking care of the environment.  Writing: writing sentences about things we can do to take care of the Planet Earth.  Listening: Listening for specific information and labelling.  Reading: reading specific sentences. Lesson procedure: Activity 1: Watch the following series of videos “Animals save the Planet”. Elicit ideas from students of what they have seen in the video. Use an Interactive Power Point presentation to explain actions with images and vocabulary. Activity 2: Give Ss a worksheet with different images and sentences (the same or similar as the Power Point presentation). Ss have to match the pictures with each sentence. Activity 3: Oral discussion. Ask the following question: What can we do to help the planet? Ss can answer this question by making use of the sentences and vocabulary that was used in the Power Point presentation. Activity 4: Hand out a worksheet in which Ss have to paint “good things to do” with green and “bad things to do” with red. Activity 5: In groups create posters promoting environmental awareness that will be placed on the school walls. Activity 6: Project: Plant a tree or create a vegetable garden in the school. Activity 7: With the help of the Art teacher, paint on T-shirts (that Ss will bring) eco-friendly logos to promote environmental awareness.
