In March 2018, the UK launched its Secure by Design report in order to help defend against security threats, especially for consumer Internet of Things products and services. Over the past few years, poorly secured IoT devices have been hijacked in both targeted as well as large-scale DDoS attacks such as Mirai. In addition to this, poor security can threaten both privacy and safety. The speaker, David Rogers authored the UK’s ‘Code of Practice for Security in Consumer IoT Products and Associated Services’, in collaboration with DCMS, NCSC, ICO and industry colleagues with extensive support from the security research community. David will discuss the guidelines within the Code of Practice, why these were prioritised and why the top three became dealing with the password problem, implementing vulnerability disclosure and acting on it and addressing software updates. David will also look at what’s next: what will the challenges be and will the Code of Practice succeed in its aims? How can IoT products possibly be certified and how will the threat landscape change in response to improving security?

The industrial cybersecurity landscape is complex and formed by very different actors (industrial organizations, critical infrastructures, EPC companies, industrial and cybersecurity vendors, consultancy companies, integrators, academia, public bodies and governments), with very different interests and objectives and different maturity levels, even internally in each organization, so there’s no way to go alone in the way of protecting these industrial and critical infrastructures adequately. Interdependencies, multidisciplinary, multiple supply chains and lack of common reference make even more complex the task of advancing in the right way. Public Private Partnerships (PPP) are recognized as a key aspect on improving Industrial Cybersecurity and Critical Infrastructure Protection, but PPP usually is a formal and structured way of communication and collaboration between organizations, that is not necessary followed by the persons in charge or being part of those organizations. In this presentation, we are proposing a new concept: C3R, “Collaboration, Coordination and Commitment based Relationships”, as the base for building a global community for protecting our Industrial and Critical Infrastructures and explaining the keys of the success of such an approach.

Washington has become transfixed by cyber security and with good reason. Cyber threats cost Americans billions of dollars each year and put U.S. troops at risk. Yet, too much of the discussion about cyber security is ill informed, and even sophisticated policymakers struggle to sort hype from reality. As a result, Washington focuses on many of the wrong things. Offense overshadows defense. National security concerns dominate the discussion even though most costs of insecurity are borne by civilians. Meanwhile, effective but technical measures like security engineering and building secure software are overlooked. In my view, cyber security policy must focus on solving the software security problem – fixing the broken stuff. We must refocus our energy on addressing the glass house problem instead of on building faster, more accurate stones to throw.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is expanding rapidly, and is expected to comprise 18 billion connected devices by 2022. But the assumptions of trust which formed the backdrop to the early development of the internet no longer apply in the early stages of IoT development. Privacy and security concerns are ever increasing, especially given the growing significance of IoT in corporate, government, and critical infrastructure contexts. Likewise, the commodification of IoT components incorporated across diverse product ranges and deployed in both managed and unmanaged use cases brings significant security challenges and creates potential for novel types of attack. The proactive cooperation of all key stakeholders will be necessary to realize the considerable economic benefits of the IoT, while protecting security, safety, and privacy.

Internet usage has increased quickly, particularly in the previous decade. With the widespread use of the internet, cybercrime is growing at an alarming rate in our daily lives. However, with the growth of artificial intelligence (AI), businesses are concentrating more on preventing cybercrime. AI is becoming an essential component of every business, affecting individuals worldwide. Cybercrime is one of the most prominent domains where AI has begun demonstrating valuable inputs. As a result, AI is being deployed as the first line of defense in most firms' systems. Because AI can detect new assaults faster than humans, it is the best alternative for constructing better protection against cybercrime. AI technologies also offer more significant potential in the development of such technology. This paper discusses recent cyber intrusions and how the AI-enabled industry is preparing to defend itself in the long run.

This paper aims to investigate the mechanisms that contribute to propagation of competence in an Agile Scrum team. This study seeks to challenge the traditional view of bounded rationality (BR). An Agile Scrum team (Team) is expected to build problem solving competence quickly as the expected ramp up time continues to shrink. But the team has a mixture of expertise, competence and sociability levels that affect out-of-the-box performance. The objective is to expand BR into the social realm and see how teams can self-organize and reconfigure to allow effective problem solving. Studies have shown that agent-based computational simulation is an appropriate technique to explore this point from a theoretical perspective. (Fioretti, 2013) (Secchi, 2015). The first step is to define the problem, discuss how senior team members exhibit high curiosity and apply sociability and cognitive resources to develop overall team competence. This dynamic is modeled and simulated in NetLogoR and the results are analyzed. Finally, some key findings are presented and discussed.

It combines memory safety and concurrency to create an independent, modular, and embeddable rendering engine that adheres to web standards. Stewardship of Servo moved from Mozilla Research to the Linux Foundation in 2020, where its mission remains unchanged. After some slow years, in 2023 there has been renewed activity on the project, with a roadmap now focused on improving the engine’s CSS 2 conformance, exploring Android support, and making Servo a practical embeddable rendering engine. In this presentation, Rakhi Sharma reviews the status of the project, our recent developments in 2023, our collaboration with Tauri to make Servo an easy-to-use embeddable rendering engine, and our plans for the future to make Servo an alternative web rendering engine for the embedded devices industry.
