The Challenges of 5G Fronthaul Gigalight Solutions for 5G Fronthaul
The AAU outdoor application environment has extremely high requirements on the
operating temperature adaptability of the optical modules. The fronthaul optical
modules need to meet the industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
Gigalight's 25G optical modules for 5G fronthaul can pass the industrial high and low
temperature cycle test range; temperature change rate 2°C/min; high and low temperature
duration 15 minutes; cycle number 4 times; after the above test, the modules meet the test
time 240 hours Zero error code requirements and still can guarantee normal work.
The operating cost of the 5G base station is mainly the electricity bill. In order to
reduce the power consumption of the AAU, the power consumption of the optical
module is required to be as low as possible, preferably not exceeding 1.5W.
Gigalight's industrial 25G single-mode dual-fiber and BiDi single-fiber optical modules for
5G fronthaul consumption consume less than 1.2W, and multimode 25G optical modules
less than 1.0W.
Because the AAU is placed on the outdoor tower, the communication service needs
long-term stability and can not be accidentally interrupted, the product can not be
invalid, and the fronthaul optical transceivers have extremely high reliability
requirements.
Gigalight's 25G optical modules for 5G fronthaul meet the Telcordia GR-468-CORE. With
hermetic packaged optical components, the modules meet telecom-class reliability
requirements, ensuring long-term stability of communication services.
The 5G and 4G base stations have the conditions of hybrid networking. So, the CPRI
optical modules have the requirement to support multiple rate service types, and
the rate needs backward support.
The 25G CPRI optical modules meets the CPRI Option10 rate (24Gbps) and supports 25GE
services (25Gbps). Under the CDR bypass condition, the rate supports 10GE backward.
Due to the poor penetration of the 5G wireless spectrum, the 5G base stations are
denser and more numerous than the 4G base stations. The fiber resources from the
BBU to the AAU are more valuable, and the problem of insufficient fiber resources
needs to be solved. However, it is difficult, costly and long cycle to redeploy fiber
resources.
Gigalight's 25G BiDi solution can save 50% of fiber resources. In addition, under the
condition that the fiber resources are extremely scarce, using CWDM or DWDM technology
can save a lot of fiber resources. Gigalight provides highly reliable CWDM and DWDM
solutions, including industrial 25G SFP28 CWDM/DWDM modules and passive CWDM/
DWDM modules.
BBU base station room or AAU deployment space resources are precious, and space
is tight.
Gigalight's industrial Compact CWDM (CCWDM) passive modules are small enough to meet
the demanding requirements of space and can be deployed flexibly.
CPRI interface has low latency and low jitter requirements for optical modules.
