project for the Manifattura di Legnano, Italy
Master degree thesis project | Fall 2018
Supervisors: Giulia Gerosa, Carolina Fois
This project proposes the analysis and the urban redevelopment of the
Manifattura di Legnano, an example of industrial archeology of the early
twentieth century, which has now lost its productive function and is
presented as a completely disused area, but strongly attractive from the
point of view historical and architectural.
The reuse of these buildings finds its motivation in the need to build a new
library and a city cultural center, thus designing for the company buildings
new functions related to the world of culture.
The keystone in the design is the analysis of the transition spaces between
the satellite buildings of the Manifattura, those intermediate spaces
between the main buildings that previously only served as loading/unloading
areas for production, but which now prove fundamental in the union of the
new features.
Intrecci is the design of a covered urban living room, where volumes, history
and relationships weave and create a suture point between buildings.
This rest area, enriched by books and plants as in a cold greenhouse,
becomes a strategic pause between the entrance and the new Manifattura
park, creating a new meeting point in the city.

A covered road or a pàssage. This area is a passage sheltered by a
roof, a point of connection between two buildings, an interior-exterior.
In an industrial environment such as that of the Manufacture, this
corridor stands halfway between the inside and the outside, a sort of
open but protected space, with a previous industrial function, but with
a new configurable social function.

The intermediate space between two buildings thus becomes a public
place, an urban living room that serves as a meeting point inside
the Manifattura block. It is in fact an intertwining of volumes, in
an attempt to sew the separate edges of the current buildings; an
intertwining of relationships, since the new function is a collective
space for meeting and meeting; a weaving of threads, as a reminder
of the previous carding and spinning activity of cotton.
The concept of the weaving is the guideline for the design of all its
parts that compose it.

TOTAL TOWER GARDEN
La Dèfense, Paris
Project done during the interniship at Atelier Fois | Spring 2018
Supervisor: Carolina Fois
This is a landscape project that is part of a tender won by Atelier Fois.
It is a public garden under the Total tower in the Defense area that needed
to be renovated.
This space consists of 5 squares of land and a covered area that serves as a
smoking area. The idea of the project is to animate the heart of this garden,
which was previously only a transit area, making it a rest area for the tower
workers.
As for the choice of plant species, the existing was reinforced by adding
trees already present such as birches and creating a fund of luminous and
more consistent mass.
The choice of grasses and bulbs took place by studying the bright and
climatic conditions of the square, also emphasizing in the drawing the
presence of waves that were continuous even in these separated squares.
To complete the space and make it usable during the cigarette break, a
new bench was designed to fit the space under the shelter and were placed
supporting tables between the squares.

FRACTURA
project for Milan Central Station, exhibited at Pit slow (E)motion, Monza
2017
Interior design studio project / 2017
Supervisors: Ron Gilad, Anna Barbara
Fractura is a memorial of the earthquakes that took place on the platform
12-13 of Milan Central Station. Italy is a territory afflicted by many
earthquakes and the railway station is a junction among many routes all
over Europe.
This project offers a new way of considering platforms and stations in
general: the experience this memorial evokes in people strays far from the
chaotic and frenetic one you usually have when walking on a platform.
The aim is making people stop and think, emotionally experiencing both the
feeling of darkness and hope an earthquakes causes.

BOTANICAL RESEARCH CENTER
project for Villa Arconati, Bollate (MI)
Synthesis studio project, Fall 2017
Supervisors: Francesco Scullica, Peter di Sabatino, Gisella Veronese, Mauro
Afro Borella
A Botanical Research Center situated few kilometers away from Milan, is
a design project that aims to explore, conserve and explain the world of
plants for a better future by offering various activities to locals, tourists and
researchers.
Both the concept and the functions in it guides visitors to discover the
hidden treasure of the plants in addition to the hidden beauty of the
property.
The project introduces a masterplan of 193 hectares that includes different
interconnected areas such as botanical gardens, areas of conservation,
cultivation fields. Moreover, Botanic Library, Plant-based Restaurant and
Rest&Drink Gin Pavilion of Botanical Research Center are well designed
according to the concept of control the view.

The library is located in the hidden treasure of the Villa which
is Woodshed. A silent, bright, airy space where it was used to
store wood, now it is storages knowledge. It is developed in two
level, to enhance the beautiful double height of the building. The
grid system used in four different ways like a book container, a
lighting box, a plant holder and a structural element but mainly to
control the view of the visitors by making the game of seeing- not
seeing in the space also by underlining the old structure to reveal
and preserve the memory of the woodshed.

The restaurant is located in the Stables which faces the central
Cedar courtyard, a crossing point between research and education
activities but maintain a relaxed mood due to its hidden yard. The
experience starts with grocery shopping after that the customers
deliver the 0 km fresh products and pass through the corridor in
which they can watch the preparation process of their dishes. The
waiters serve the plant-based meals in the dining area. All flows
are calculated, and the design is suitable to achieve technical
requirements.

Gin Pavilion is one of the family of pavilions connected by the
cycling andwalking path that makes users discover the hidden
points of the property. It is located in Pinetum garden. The
pavilion offers free flow to the users with its three different
access. Thanks to the flows, even if the gin bar closed, the north
modules would provide 24/7 service to the users. They contain
theessential facilities not only like toilets and drinking water
source but also aservice block to reach the top of the tower that
guarantees 360 degrees view over the field.

ICONA CONCEPT STORE
project for Isola District, Milan
Bachelor degree thesis project / 2016
Supervisors: Giulia Gerosa, Francesco Lucchese, Angela Mazzotti, Andrea
Manfredi
The aim of Icona Concept Store is to show up the popular and simple
essence of Isola district being reinterpreted into a modern Pop concept that
offers a local and global experience.
The concept store is spread in three different but strategic locations inside
the neighbourhood, but the strong brand identity creates an immediate and
recognizable communication. The spaces are linked thanks to the yellow, a
color that is very typical of Milan.
The concept of Pop is represented also by the products that are sold there:
rice, jeans and paper are daily product, well known allover the world, but
they are presented here as extraordinary objects and icons of the Pop
culture.

Paper qualities have inspired the interior design of the space: colors,
diagonality, squared notebook and tattility are reinterpreted in a Pop
way to permit an immersive, complete and glad shopping experience.
Coherence and completeness of the project derived from translating
in a three-dimensions space an element which is bidimensional, i.e.
paper, creating an original and captivating place that offers emotion
starting from what we walk on, the squared paving that reminds of a
squared notebook, ending with what stands above the visitors’s head,
a paper installation that covers all the ceiling of the shop.

VEGETILES
project for Palazzo Isolani (BO), Italy
Workshop with Tideo /Spring 2016
Supervisors: Davide Crippa, Emilio Lonardo
The workshop aims to enhance the potential of Tideo, through the creation
of a collection of textures and the design of an exhibition space to show this
new collection.
The VegeTiles project takes inspiration from the irregular shapes of nature,
showing itself, consistently with the eco - minimal trend, through natural
materials such as wood and stone and is aimed at a target such as living
areas, kitchens and restaurants. The plots of the collection are taken from
fruits and vegetables commonly found on our tables, while the exhibition
design is characterized by simplicity, clarity and linearity that make it a
versatile and comfortable space. The textures of the collection are then
engraved on natural materials such as wood and stone.
The project was chosen by Tideo to be realized on a 1: 1 scale inside Palazzo
Isolani in Bologna, during the Bologna Design Week 2016.

PIANETA UTOPIA
project for Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea, Milan
Exhibition Design Studio / Spring 2017
Supervisors: Beppe Finessi, Matteo Pirola
Pianeta Utopia is a project for an exhibition located in the PAC, Pavilion of
Contemporary Art, that discuss the theme of utopia conceived as a resource
that keeps alive the desire for alternative worlds.
Deep research which has been made for the curation is focused on utopian
thinking in an urban landscape, architecture, and domestic environment.
The exhibition considers the works of Ettore Sottsass as a starting point
and contains numerous contemporary and past century artists to show how
utopia has always been a source of unrealizable dreams and a screen for
reality.
Done with: Aysecan Ertin, Veronica Franceschinis, Davide Rizzetto, Alice
Scolari.

1. Domestic Landscape
The first part of the exhibition
immerses the visitors to a utopian
dimension referring to a human
scale. This created abstract
landscape stimulates the creativity
and imagination of the visitors.
Image: Microenvironment, Ettore Sottsass
3. Architectural Landscape
The third room contains visionary
and unrealistic projects that
propose utopian urban solutions for
the near future. The architecture
changes simultaneously with the
needs of the citizens.
2. Habitable Landscape
The freedom of the users come out
in a habitable scale. In this section,
the visitors can find an alternative
and provocative ways of living.
Image:Yellow Heart, Haus Ructivesker-Co
4. Living Landscape
The landscape and architecture
become an art. The city absorbs
human characteristics like the
actions, habits, intuitions, and
requirements based on utopian
perspectives.

6 Imaginary Landscape
Up and up! Aerial fantasies and
views become less recognizable,
but they stimulate our imagination
to look for new shapes and new
utopias.
5 Aerial Landscape
Going up will make us discover
another utopian living elevated
from the ground. All drawings,
collages, and photomontages
illustrate utopian schemes
underlining the freedom of the
inhabitants.

  • 9. 9 URBANDESIGN 01 INTRECCI project for the Manifattura di Legnano, Italy Master degree thesis project | Fall 2018 Supervisors: Giulia Gerosa, Carolina Fois This project proposes the analysis and the urban redevelopment of the Manifattura di Legnano, an example of industrial archeology of the early twentieth century, which has now lost its productive function and is presented as a completely disused area, but strongly attractive from the point of view historical and architectural. The reuse of these buildings finds its motivation in the need to build a new library and a city cultural center, thus designing for the company buildings new functions related to the world of culture. The keystone in the design is the analysis of the transition spaces between the satellite buildings of the Manifattura, those intermediate spaces between the main buildings that previously only served as loading/unloading areas for production, but which now prove fundamental in the union of the new features. Intrecci is the design of a covered urban living room, where volumes, history and relationships weave and create a suture point between buildings. This rest area, enriched by books and plants as in a cold greenhouse, becomes a strategic pause between the entrance and the new Manifattura park, creating a new meeting point in the city.
  • 10. 10 INTRECCI T H E S P A C E - A covered road or a pàssage. This area is a passage sheltered by a roof, a point of connection between two buildings, an interior-exterior. In an industrial environment such as that of the Manufacture, this corridor stands halfway between the inside and the outside, a sort of open but protected space, with a previous industrial function, but with a new configurable social function.
  • 13. 13 URBANDESIGN T H E c o n c e p t - The intermediate space between two buildings thus becomes a public place, an urban living room that serves as a meeting point inside the Manifattura block. It is in fact an intertwining of volumes, in an attempt to sew the separate edges of the current buildings; an intertwining of relationships, since the new function is a collective space for meeting and meeting; a weaving of threads, as a reminder of the previous carding and spinning activity of cotton. The concept of the weaving is the guideline for the design of all its parts that compose it.
  • 15. 15 URBANDESIGN 02 TOTAL TOWER GARDEN La Dèfense, Paris Project done during the interniship at Atelier Fois | Spring 2018 Supervisor: Carolina Fois This is a landscape project that is part of a tender won by Atelier Fois. It is a public garden under the Total tower in the Defense area that needed to be renovated. This space consists of 5 squares of land and a covered area that serves as a smoking area. The idea of the project is to animate the heart of this garden, which was previously only a transit area, making it a rest area for the tower workers. As for the choice of plant species, the existing was reinforced by adding trees already present such as birches and creating a fund of luminous and more consistent mass. The choice of grasses and bulbs took place by studying the bright and climatic conditions of the square, also emphasizing in the drawing the presence of waves that were continuous even in these separated squares. To complete the space and make it usable during the cigarette break, a new bench was designed to fit the space under the shelter and were placed supporting tables between the squares.
  • 19. 19 URBANDESIGN 03 FRACTURA project for Milan Central Station, exhibited at Pit slow (E)motion, Monza 2017 Interior design studio project / 2017 Supervisors: Ron Gilad, Anna Barbara Fractura is a memorial of the earthquakes that took place on the platform 12-13 of Milan Central Station. Italy is a territory afflicted by many earthquakes and the railway station is a junction among many routes all over Europe. This project offers a new way of considering platforms and stations in general: the experience this memorial evokes in people strays far from the chaotic and frenetic one you usually have when walking on a platform. The aim is making people stop and think, emotionally experiencing both the feeling of darkness and hope an earthquakes causes. Done with: Veronica Franceschinis, Alessia Reali, Alessandra Troisi.

  • 23. 23 INTERIORDESIGN 04 BOTANICAL RESEARCH CENTER project for Villa Arconati, Bollate (MI) Synthesis studio project, Fall 2017 Supervisors: Francesco Scullica, Peter di Sabatino, Gisella Veronese, Mauro Afro Borella A Botanical Research Center situated few kilometers away from Milan, is a design project that aims to explore, conserve and explain the world of plants for a better future by offering various activities to locals, tourists and researchers. Both the concept and the functions in it guides visitors to discover the hidden treasure of the plants in addition to the hidden beauty of the property. The project introduces a masterplan of 193 hectares that includes different interconnected areas such as botanical gardens, areas of conservation, cultivation fields. Moreover, Botanic Library, Plant-based Restaurant and Rest&Drink Gin Pavilion of Botanical Research Center are well designed according to the concept of control the view. Done with: Aysecan Ertin, Veronica Franceschinis, Li Xin
  • 24. 24 BOTANICALRESEARCHCENTER b o t a n i c l i b r a r y - The library is located in the hidden treasure of the Villa which is Woodshed. A silent, bright, airy space where it was used to store wood, now it is storages knowledge. It is developed in two level, to enhance the beautiful double height of the building. The grid system used in four different ways like a book container, a lighting box, a plant holder and a structural element but mainly to control the view of the visitors by making the game of seeing- not seeing in the space also by underlining the old structure to reveal and preserve the memory of the woodshed.
  • 26. 26 P l a n t- b a s e d R e s t a u r a n t - The restaurant is located in the Stables which faces the central Cedar courtyard, a crossing point between research and education activities but maintain a relaxed mood due to its hidden yard. The experience starts with grocery shopping after that the customers deliver the 0 km fresh products and pass through the corridor in which they can watch the preparation process of their dishes. The waiters serve the plant-based meals in the dining area. All flows are calculated, and the design is suitable to achieve technical requirements. BOTANICALRESEARCHCENTER

The concept store is spread in three different but strategic locations inside the neighbourhood, but the strong brand identity creates an immediate and recognizable communication. The spaces are linked thanks to the yellow, a color that is very typical of Milan. The concept of Pop is represented also by the products that are sold there: rice, jeans and paper are daily product, well known allover the world, but they are presented here as extraordinary objects and icons of the Pop culture. Done with: Veronica Franceschinis, Alice Scolari, Marta Soro
  • 32. 32 i c o n a / c a r t a - Paper qualities have inspired the interior design of the space: colors, diagonality, squared notebook and tattility are reinterpreted in a Pop way to permit an immersive, complete and glad shopping experience. Coherence and completeness of the project derived from translating in a three-dimensions space an element which is bidimensional, i.e. paper, creating an original and captivating place that offers emotion starting from what we walk on, the squared paving that reminds of a squared notebook, ending with what stands above the visitors’s head, a paper installation that covers all the ceiling of the shop. • 35. 35 EXHIBITIONDESIGN 06 VEGETILES project for Palazzo Isolani (BO), Italy Workshop with Tideo /Spring 2016 Supervisors: Davide Crippa, Emilio Lonardo The workshop aims to enhance the potential of Tideo, through the creation of a collection of textures and the design of an exhibition space to show this new collection. The VegeTiles project takes inspiration from the irregular shapes of nature, showing itself, consistently with the eco - minimal trend, through natural materials such as wood and stone and is aimed at a target such as living areas, kitchens and restaurants. The plots of the collection are taken from fruits and vegetables commonly found on our tables, while the exhibition design is characterized by simplicity, clarity and linearity that make it a versatile and comfortable space. The textures of the collection are then engraved on natural materials such as wood and stone. The project was chosen by Tideo to be realized on a 1: 1 scale inside Palazzo Isolani in Bologna, during the Bologna Design Week 2016.
