14. Academic History
The main course I’ve studied that would help me in future courses would be
I.T. I learned both practical skills, like video editing and web design that would
help me with media studies, and also learned how to complete the
coursework that goes along with it to a high standard. In addition, I believe
D.T also helped in this aspect because we spent a lot of time perfecting
coursework, which has some transferrable skills towards media coursework,
especially when it comes to analysing existing products and planning.
Subjects like English Language and Literature also came in helpful in terms of
looking at film, due to the heavy symbolism talked about in book essays and
the multiple analysis’ we completed.
15. Current Study
In Creative Media at York college, we have developed lots of skills including
both practical and theoretical. For example, each module came with course
work which meant we had to practice planning, research analysis, evaluation
skills and documenting each step of our creative process. Furthermore, we
have experimented with lots of software and for different purposes. I have
used photoshop for both image editing (creating posters for my FMP,
designing magazine pages and a title for the print project), as well as using it
for animation in the Video games project. I have also gained basic knowledge
on software such as Adobe Premiere and Audition during the Music Video,
Video Games and Audio Projects.
16. The Future
I’m still not sure what specifically I would like to do in the future, but I know I
want to do something within the field of media. This would most likely be
something to do with graphics or animation, though it would be fun to get
into the film industry as a writer or director, however I recognise this is quite
difficult. I would prefer a job that pays well due to the lifestyle I want, which
means I would settle for a job that pays higher but isn’t exactly my ‘dream’. I
believe University could help me down this path as a qualification would give
me a higher chance at getting interviews and jobs in my chosen career field,
as well as give me the skills to become better at the career I chose.
17. Outside College
Outside of college I spend a lot of time doing creative writing and drawing,
both digital and traditionally. I like to draw a lot of different things, such as
animals, people and sometimes costume designs. I also like drawing fan work
from my favourite forms of media, as well as doing my own concept sketches
for premises I come up with. For example, in terms of writing I’m currently
writing my own Novella, and I like to draw different scenes and locations, as
well as sketching up character designs to help me write the descriptions more
clearly. Furthermore, it terms of video editing, I used to run a youtube
channel with over 100k subscribers, however due to issues with Youtube’s
stricter terms of services, it got taken down. Though, I am slowly starting
again and regaining my following. I belive this gives me a unique aspect in
terms of candidates, and shows I have a wide range of skills.
18. Conclusion
• Currently I do not wish to attend university, but if I changed my mind it
would be because the job I want would prefer me to go. I may also want to
go for the social aspects as it’s an experience a lot of people look forward
to, but I’m happy with my current social circle and I’m not too fussed
about experiencinguniversity life. I personally believe that, for me, it
would be best to go straight into work and work my way up through
promotion, as I want a fulltime income as soon as possible and don’t want
the debt that comes along with University. Plus, I find full time education
tedious, it’s just not really my thing.
19. Introduction
If I was to go to University, I would go for the extra qualifications, the skills I’d
learn which would help further my career and the social life. I believe these
would give me an advantage in the place of work, even the social aspect as it
would help me gain confidence which is important, especially for interviews
and client prepositions. The subject I would study would definitely be
something involving media, whether that’s digital media, graphic design,
animation or film to become a writer or director. These are direct links to the
general idea of what I want to work as in the future. Though I don’t know
exactly what yet, I want it to involve creating media in some way.
