TOGETHER, IN HARMONY!
ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT
During this month, we rounded up may’s local activity: HEALTHY
FOOD, GOOD MOOD. The students who developed the 5 selected recipes
finished their tasks (“Tortilla española” by Emma Revilla, “gazpacho” by Paula
Escobar and Sara Gutiérrez, “vegetable soup” by Cinthia Zahino and Eva
Hernández, “healthy pancakes” by Marta Diez and Carlos Covarrubias and the
“courgette cream” by Olivia Guerrero). Once all the materials were generated,
Lara Villarmea, their English teacher, put all of them together and sent our part to
the leading organisation so as to be included in the final cookery book.
At the same time, our school finished the organisation of June’s local
activity: NATURE, OUR FRIEND. We were the leading organisation this time
so, on the 2nd
of June, Lara Villarmea Iglesias, as the coordinator at IESO
HARÉVOLAR, sent 4 documents to the other partner schools:
• 1 PDF document with the instructions of the activity, which included a
description of the tasks, the objectives, the related subjects, the necessary
materials, the final product, the procedure and the deadline
• 1 PDF and 1 Word Document with the so-called “Field Notes”, which
was one of the necessary materials. The document was sent in both
formats in case any partner school needed to make any modifications to
adapt it to the necessities of their related subjects.
• 1 PDF document with examples from some Field Notes made by our
students to serve as a model for the rest of the schools.
On the 5th of June, we carried out the activity ourselves. Serafín Cabañas
(PE teacher) and Julia Pineda (Biology teacher) organised the hiking route with
the 90 students that we have in 1ºESO (7th
grade). They arranged two different
rounds and made their way to the chosen location, the so-called “healthy route”
of Alovera. The students read the characteristics of the route in the panel available
at the beginning and got ready to start.
Julia explained the notebook “Field Notes” and while they were walking
along the route, students started to observe and analyse their surroundings to fill
it in. With our spirit of observation, we completed our field notes, also taking into
account the information panels found on the way that explained many features of
the insects found in this area! They were so useful for students to fill in their Field
Notes.
All in all, the hiking activity was great. Students had a good time and they
put into practice their knowledge about plants and insects at the same time that
they enjoyed physical activity and reflected on the emotions and feelings that were
experienced thanks to this activity.
TOGETHER, IN HARMONY!
Serafín Cabañas took all the necessary photos and prepared a summary of
this activity and Lara Villarmea gave form to the digital album using “Genially”,
an online platform for interactive animated content. Once our pages were ready,
we sent them to the other partner schools to serve as a model / example. One by
one, all the schools sent their summaries and photos before the due date and Lara
Villarmea created the final product, which can be viewed in the following link:
https://view.genial.ly/648af933c437570018266e65/interactive-content-nature-our-friend
Last, but not least, during the last week of June – once the students finished
their classes, the teachers that were involved in “Together, in Harmony!” this
academic year had different conversations to share their opinions and views on
how this first year had gone in order to analyse the development of the project
at our school during this period. In general, all the impressions were positive as
regards the attainment of the objectives of the project and, especially, the student
engagement, motivation and learning in all the activities that were carried out. As
a proposal of improvement with regard to the next academic year, many teachers
commented that it would be better to have the instructions for the local activities
sufficiently in advance (at least, at the beginning of each month) – from our point
of view the instructions for some of this year’s activities were given too late to be
able to organise them properly at the rest of schools. Anyways, everyone has
agreed that this experience has been very valuable and we are all gaining useful
knowledge and skills regarding the participation in an international program,
which is something completely new for our school.
OBJECTIVES ACHIEVED
• Promote physical and mental health, which leads to a state of well-being.
• Encourage healthy habits regarding physical activity and the proper nutrition involved.
• Develop practical skills, as well as the spirit of observation, analysis and synthesis.
• Analyse the development of the project during this first academic year at our school and
propose suggestions for improvement.
RESULTS
• Documents with instructions, materials and examples regarding the local activity
“NATURE, OUR FRIEND”
• A hiking activity along the so-called “healthy route” of Alovera, which also involved
our students filling in their Field Notes.
• Digital album in Genially with a summary of the hiking activities of the 5 participants.
• Meetings/conversations between the teachers involved in the activities this year:
discussions about the learnings gained, objectives achieved, and advantages and
disadvantages detected.
IESO HARÉVOLAR Erasmus+ coordinator,
LARA VILLARMEA IGLESIAS
