Six questions guiding lesson planning.
Who?
The participants of this lesson are both the educator and the pupils. My lesson plan is
for Grade 10 learners in Naledi High School aged 16 to 18 born in a democratic South
Africa. There are 50 learners’ in the classroom which is a manageable class to teach, it
contains of 27 girls and 23 boys. Some of the learners have visual barriers to learning
however, I have placed them in the front row of the classroom. Quarter of the learners
are from disadvantaged backgrounds, there are 5 repeaters in the class. All learners
are able to learn in English as they have used it since their primary schooling, they are
Sesotho, Setswana, Sepedi and IsiZulu speaking learners. Most of the learners are
2. based in the same community that the school is in and they walk to school, while some
of the learners come from farther places and use transport to get to school. They use
either public or private transport.
When?
The lesson will take place on a Thursday morning at 8h00, it is the middle of summer
and the temperature outside is mostly sunny conditions. The learners will pay much
attention in the morning compared to in the afternoon.
What?

What is self-development?
The difference between self-awareness, self-esteem and self-development.
Factors that influence self-awareness and self-esteem.
Strategies to build confidence in yourself and in others.
Where?
The lesson will take place indoors (in the classroom). The classroom laid out in a
learner-centered setting whereby they are seated in groups of four, in order to promote
an effective environment for learners to actively engage with the learning process.
Grouping can help with integration of different kinds of learners so you have the
chance to mix everything up, girls often participate and dominate group discussions in
the classroom. There are tables, chairs, a blackboard and a chalks.
What for?
By the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:

development.
Understand and explain the factors that influence self-awareness and self-
esteem.
Understand identify the strategies that build confidence in yourself and in
others.
How?
Introduction.
To introduce this lesson I will ask one volunteer learner to stand up, I will ask that
learner what he or she knows about himself or herself, secondly I will ask that learner
how he or she feels about himself or herself and lastly I will ask her of one main
feature that he or she would like to improve about himself or herself. For the
introductory phase I will use the question and answer teaching method and a
diagnostic assessment as I will be asking this learner questions to determine his or her
prior knowledge. The learner will respond to my open ended questions. His or her
classmates are supposed to listen attentively.
Integration.
I will be implementing the teaching phase of the lesson; in which I will be presenting
the new content to the learners. I will first teach the learners the definition of these
terms. During the teaching and learning process I will work through examples with the
Iearners. I will give them a group discussion activity where they will be discussing the
word self-awareness in detail, they will discuss what they know about themselves that
can be their skills, values, believes, goals etc. They will be grouped them in diversity, I
will control the activity completed by learners. I will do this by moving around the
classroom checking the progress. I am will be expected to take any questions the
learners have during this discussion activity, I am supposed to help them learn.
Moreover, I will teach the leaners the variety of strategies to use in order to build
confidence in self and others. Furthermore, I will ask the learners questions relating to
the topic and facilitating discussion. I will be using direct teaching method, discussion
teaching method and the question and answer teaching method. Learners will listen
4. and answer questions and are allowed to ask questions. The learners should work
through examples with the teacher. While the teacher is explaining the activity learners
are required to listen and ask questions if unsure about anything, they should complete
the discussion activity given by the teacher.
Summary.
To conclude the lesson, we will have a recap of today’s lesson. I will do this by asking
my learners questions and equally taking questions from them. The learners will
answer questions asked by the teacher, they will listen and are allowed to ask
questions.

PLANNED ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES FOR LEARNERS WITH BARRIERS
I will stay behind with the learners who have learning barriers so that I can engage with
them effectively than when I am conducting a lesson for the whole classroom. For the
learners’ who cannot see properly I will place them in the front row of the classroom
9. and for those who have a hearing problem I will raise my voice when teaching. I will
use the direct teaching method and question and answer method but I will use varies
assessment techniques when assessing these learners. I will assess these learners by
observing their progress and I will ask questions and they will answer those questions
given such what a goal is, and furthermore I will allow the learners to ask me questions
regarding the content covered.
TEACHER-REFLECTION
The lesson went exceptionally well as the learners were very much attentive and they
were participating during the lesson. By perceiving such I can say the learners
understand the subject matter, I could judge by the questions they were asking and
their answers when probing them with questions.
