• process of influencing people so that they will strive
willingly and enthusiastically towards achievement of
intended goals.
• Or the ability of an individual to influence , motivate and
enable others contribute towards the effectiveness and
success of the organization of which they are members
Leadership development
• Basically five levels of leadership development,
Leadership development
Position
• Rights- people follow because the have to.
Your influence will not extend above the
lines of your job description/ terms of
reference.
A real leader knows the difference between
being a boss and being a leader.
Bosses vs. Leaders
• The boss drives his workers; the leader coaches
them
• The boss depends on authority ;the leader on
good will
• The boss inspires fear; the leader inspires
enthusiasm
• The boss says I ;the leader –we
• The boss fixes the blame for the breakdown; the
leader fixes the breakdown.
Leadership development
• Permission ;
• Relationship –people follow because they want to
People will follow you beyond your stated
authority. This level allows work to be fun
People don’t care how much you know until
they know how much you care
Leadership begins with heart, not the head
Include others in your journey
Deal wisely with the difficult people.

• Result – people follow because of what you
have done for the organization
Initiate and accept responsibility and growth
Develop and follow a statement of purpose
Know and do things that give high return
Communicate strategy and vision of the
organization
Make the difficult decision that will make a
difference.

• In intimate situation -you must be
trustworthy because you know that your
bound to your team in the long run by the
shared purpose.
• Results –people get together to
accomplish a purpose.
People development
• Reproduction-people follow because of what you
have done for them
-long range growth
A leader is great not because of his /her power
but because of his /her ability to empower others.
Realize that people are the most valuable assets
Be a model for other to follow
Place a priority on developing people.
• Personhood-
• Respect –people follow because of who you are and what
you represent
• Followers are loyal and sacrificial
• Integrity –Most important ingredient in leadership
• The state of being complete and unified
• Words and actions must match
• Integrity is not what we do so much as how we do it.
• Integrity binds our person together and fosters a spirit of
contentment within us.
Integrity
• In order to lead, aman must have followers as a man
must have confidence, hence , the supreme quantity for a
leader is unquestionable integrity without it,no real
success is possible, no matter whether its is on a section
gang, a footbal field
• Problem solving for reason why people do not perform the
way they should.
• They don’t know what they need to do
• They don’t know how to do it
• They don’t know why they should
• These are obstacle beyond the control
Attitude
• Our attitude is our most important asset
• We are 100% responsible for our attitude
• The pessimist complaint about the wind
• The optimist expect it to change
• The leader adjust the sails
Attitude change
• Stages of attitude change
• Identify a problem feeling
• Identify a problem behavior
• Identify a problem thinking
• Identify the right thinking
• Make a public commitment to right thinking
• Develop a plan for the right thinking.
EXPECTATION FROM LEADERSHIP

4. . Leadership style: Leadership style is firstly the ability
of a leader to act in a manner that will develop a climate
conducive to the response from the led and secondly
arouse motivation.
