Co-Creation – empowering PEOPLE with a health eco-system
My aim is to inspire you about Co-Creation. WHY are we all here? -> We all believe that HC IT is a key enabler for transformation in healthcare. WHAT are we all working on? –> different things, but it is all around innovative solutions in healthcare
As I was attending various congresses in Nice, Riga, Duesseldorf and now in Amsterdam, I realize a shift from technology themes to PEOPLE and eco-system oriented themes. PEOPLE and the way they interact within the health eco-system seem to be a key success factor in transforming healthcare.
HOW to interact? -> Co-Creation, as it is another way of innovating and it has been successfully practiced in other industries. Let me explain what it is about.
It starts with a significant problem within an eco-system. It requires leadership to address and really understand the problem. Really understanding the problem is discovering the facts (personas, journey maps, workflow, etc.). Really understanding requires that ALL stakeholders of the eco-system are involved in the co-creation team (patients, caregivers, policy makers, industry, research, designers, etc.) All co-creation team members need to have empathy, an open innovation mindset and ideally complement each other.
Framing and scoping the problem/opportunity is next. This is a difficult but important step, also in preparing for subsequent follow up co-creation projects.
Generating ideas for solutions is done in ideation. Creativity and multi stakeholder view are key there.
And finally we build prototypes and validate them in real life. ... and then the cycle starts again with re-discovering.
Co-Creation is an interactive and creative approach. It is addressing the experience of ALL stakeholders in the eco-system. This is especially important for company representatives, as the primary goal is the benefit for the eco-system and not for the firm. Again, Co-Creation plays on the HOW, how health innovation projects are setup and run.
Co-Creation facilitates large scale deployments and Co-Creation is continually building new interactions and experiences that lead to higher productivity, higher creativity, lower cost and risk in developing innovative solutions. ... and Co-Creation is FUN for the participants!
Co-Creation is for Policy Makers, aiming to transform healthcare Healthcare Providers, aiming to address complex challenges in care Traditional companies, Small Medium Enterprises (SME‘s) and Venture Capitalists (VC‘s) aiming to develop innovative solutions Research, aiming to bring evidence to daily care
Let me name an example: in issuing the 3R eco-system tender, Sweden is driving health evolution towards co-creative markets within 4.0 society Stockholm County Council and New Karolinska Hospital Solna (NKS) are establishing innovation partnerships an SME like HealthCareCoCreation has a Co-Creation strategy and the Karolinska Research Institute is joining co-creation projects to learn from everyday care through integrated research
Co-Creation is a PEOPLE thing. It is empowering PEOPLE (especially patients) within a health eco-system. ... for a better health experience.
Further inspiration and evidence can be found in the reference material. Hope I was successful in inspiring you about Co-Creation. Thanks for your attention and happy to catch up later or to meet during the matchmaking.
