The first smartphone was the IBM Simon released in 1992, though it failed to gain popularity. The term "smartphone" emerged in 1997. Modern smartphones run mobile operating systems that integrate features of computers with mobile capabilities. The most common operating systems are Android, iOS, Windows Phone, BlackBerry OS, and others. Android was developed by Android Inc. and is now maintained by Google. The first Android phone was the HTC Dream in 2008. Future smartphones may have more advanced displays, increased durability, and replace notebooks.

3.  For the first smartphone we have to go all the way
back to 1992 and the introduction of the IBM Simon.
 IBM had big plans for the Simon, but they never really
planned out. The phone, however, was likely just too
advanced for its day. It included a touchscreen,
operated by stylus, that would let you send and receive
fax messages. But it also of course had a notepad, an
email client and a calendar. Without a doubt, the
Simon was the first smartphone, but it would retire
before gaining fame.
 Actually the term "smartphone" did not appear until
1997, when Ericsson described its GS88 concept as a
"Smart Phone“ and every smartphone has an
Operating System.

6.  A mobile operating system, also referred to
as mobile OS, is the operating system that
operates a smartphone, tablet, PDA, or other
digital mobile devices. Modern mobile
operating systems combine the features of
a personal computer operating system
with touchscreen, cellular, Bluetooth, WiFi,
GPS (mobile navigation), camera, video
camera, speech recognition, voice
recorder, music player, NFC (Near field
Communication), personal digital
assistant (PDA) and other features.

11.  The Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and
second-generation Apple TV all use an
operating system called iOS, which is derived
from Mac OS X. Native third party
applications were not officially supported until
the release of iOS 2.0 on July 11th 2008.
Before this, "jailbreaking" allowed third party
applications to be installed, and this method
is still available. Currently all iOS devices are
developed by Apple and manufactured
by Foxconn or another of Apple's partners.
