4. Background of the main grid development
plan in Ostrobothnia
Vision:
Consumers, producers and electricity
market have a safe, reliable and adequate
transmission network at disposal.
Strategy:
Old and insufficient 220 kV transmission
system is replaced by 400 and 110 kV
network solutions.
Grounds:
• New production
• New consumption
• Condition on old 220 kV network
• Reliability
• Keeping Finland as one price area
• Use of 220 kV lines in 110 kV voltage level
makes connecting easier for wind power and
distribution network.

5. Main grid development plan in Ostrobothnia
220 kV network in Ostrobothnia will be replaced
totally by the end of 2016.
Development is done in phases
1. New Uusnivala 400/110 kV transformer
station
New Seinäjoki – Tuovila 400+110 kV power
line and new Tuovila 400/110 kV transformer
station.
(ready 2011)
2. New Ulvila – Kristinestad 400 kV power line
and Kristinestad 400/110 kV transformer
station.
Renewal of Ulvila 400 and 110 kV station.
3. New Hirvisuo – Pyhänselkä 400 kV power
line and new Hirvisuo 400/110 kV
transformer station.
Kristinestad – Tuovila – Hirvisuo power
line change to 400 kV voltage level.
Many 220 kV lines are changed to 110 kV
voltage level.
New Jylkkä 400/110 kV transformer station
and new Siikajoki 110 kV substation for
connecting wind power.
