I have a broad base of knowledge, experience and skills in the field of Ophthalmology. My
subspecialist interests are Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus and Medical Retina.
Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Fellowship Training
I completed Clinical Fellowship from Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast, the largest tertiary
hospital in Northern Ireland. My timetable included Outpatient clinics, theatres, ROP
Screening and Orthoptic assessment clinics.
Outpatient Clinics experience: I gained experience in managing routine childhood
disorders such as epiphora and allergic eye disease as well as serious diseases like tumors.
I confidently manage patients with poor vision, nystagmus, various types of strabismus as
well as performing examination of fundus with 30D lens to rule out fundal pathologies.
Theatre Experience: On weekly basis I had two pediatric theatres and one Adult strabismus
theatre. I performed and assisted a number of childhood and adult strabismus procedures,
probing and syringing, lacrimal duct intubation, indirect Panretinal Photocoagulation for
coats’ disease, Ptosis surgery using fascia lata, sling procedures and complicated strabismus
procedures such as Harada ito, transposition, Knapp procedure etc.
ROP Screening: I attended weekly ROP Screening sessions as well as treatment with
indirect argon laser for stage 3 plus disease.
Orthoptic Clinic: I attended orthoptic clinic on weekly basis and learnt cover test, ocular
motility examination, measurement of strabismus with prism bars as well as Hess chart
interpretation.
General Surgical Experience:
I am competent in performing general ophthalmic surgical procedures such as IVT,
Phacoemulsification, strabismus correction, ectropion & entropion correction.
Laser Experience:
I am fully trained in carrying out various types of laser procedures such as PRP, Macular
laser, Yag laser and Cyclodiode.
Emergency Ophthalmology
I am fully competent in managing anterior and posterior segment emergencies such as angle
closure glaucoma, corneal ulcers/abscess, ocular trauma, retinal tears etc. I also provide
regular supervision to junior trainees in primary care setting.

Research Experience
Efficacy of Brinzolamide and Brimonidine fixed combination (2010-2012)
I was a principal investigator for this multicentre clinical trial by Alcon on the efficacy of
Brinzolamide and Brimonidine fixed combination. My role was to recruit patients, prescribe
drug and examine patients as per protocol. I was responsible for completing relevant
documentation and alerting side effects from drug. It has been shown to be an effective drug
to control intraocular pressure and preservation of vision in Glaucoma patients. It now has
been marketed as Simbrinza.
Luminous Study (ongoing since 2012)
Luminous is a five-year observational, international, multicenter program that will provide
long-term effectiveness and safety data for Ranibizumab as well as to assess the treatment
patterns and health related quality of life issues of patients treated with ranibizumab. My role
to contribute valuable data from our cohort of patients with wet AMD.
MERLOT Multicentre Clinical Trial (Brachytherapy for Wet AMD)
I was co-investigator Results of this trial (2006-2008) and my role was to recruit patients for
this trial. Results of this trial have already been published.
Clinical evaluation of a new aspherical intraocular lens (2005-2007)
To compare contrast sensitivity between Sofport Advanced adapt IOL and Soflex SE at 3
months and PCO at 1& 2 years. A prospective, randomized, comparative study involving 120
patients. My role was to recruit patients for this trial and examine them postoperatively as per
protocol.
Eureye and Macugen Multicentre Clinical Trial for Wet AMD (2000-2002)
I was co- investigator for these multicenter clinical trials on wet age related macular
degeneration at Queens University Belfast under the supervision of Professor Usha
Chakravarthy from 2000 to 2012, and gained very valuable experience in the management of
patients with AMD. I actively recruited patients to these clinical trials and in addition
conducted out-patient clinics, intravitreal injections, Photodynamic therapy and feeder vessel
photocoagulation using argon laser
Teaching
I have been an enthusiastic teacher in both the informal setting and structured tutorials. I have
achieved a Certificate in Teaching and Learning from Bolton University which helped me
modify my teaching sessions to suit the learning needs of various student groups. I contribute
to departmental teaching, training of optometrist, nurses, undergraduates and postgraduates
on a regular basis.

Management & Organizational Background
I Reorganized Retinopathy of Prematurity Screening service in 2005 and was clinical lead of
this service for eight years.
I helped in organization and efficient delivery of care for patients with wet age related
macular degeneration since 2007.
I participated in setting up and effective delivery of Wirral diabetic retinopathy screening
program since 2009
Additional management skill sets
In depth understanding of development and functionality intricacies in screening programs
Glaucoma screening
Digital diabetic retinopathy screening
Clinical Audit
I have active involvement in audit of our service and recognize the importance of this in
maintaining standards and delivering high quality care to my patients. I carried out following
audits at Wirral Hospital NHS Trust and implemented change as per audit results.
Audit of treatment with Eylea for patient with wet AMD; Wirral Hospital Nov 2014
Objective: To achieve our experience of efficacy of Eylea for Wet AMD
Conclusion: Results are in line with published results
Audit of retreatment criteria for prescribing lucentis in patients with wet AMD; Wirral
Hospital Oct 2013
Objective: To assess practice of retreatment criteria for treatment of wet AMD
Conclusion: Departmental guidelines were not being followed. Change Implemented
Personal Audit of Intravitreal therapy for Wet AMD; Wirral Hospital Nov 2013
Objective: To assess my current practice of intravitreal therapy
Conclusion: My practice was overall safe and complication rate was very low. Two patients
out of nearly 7000 injections developed endophthalmitis; one was sterile presumably related
to immune reaction to lucentis and the other patient was culture positive.
Conclusion: Current practice is generally safe, however, my whole team now wear mask to
prevent droplet injection during procedure.
9. 9
Patient satisfaction with Departmental Lucentis Service; Wirral Hospital Sep 2012
Objective: To assess patients view regarding our Lucentis Service
Conclusion: Nearly 97% patients were pleased with our Service
Re audit of ROP service at Wirral Hospital NHS Trust; Oct 2011
Objective: To assess delivery of care for premature babies after deviations were identified
from previous audit.
Conclusion: Change successfully implemented
Audit of ROP Screening Service (analysis of comprehensive database) at Wirral
Hospital NHS Trust; Oct 2010
Objective: To evaluate our ROP screening against national guidelines
Conclusion: There was slight deviation of timing of initial examination from national
guidelines. Change implemented.
Audit of IOP measurement techniques; Wirral Hospital Oct 2007
Objective: To evaluate accuracy of various instruments for measurement of intraocular
pressure.
Conclusion: Audit confirmed that Goldmann applanation tonometry is the most accurate
method of recording intraocular pressure.
Outcomes of 25 gauge vitrectomy for Retinal disorders; Wirral Hospital Oct 2005
Objective: To evaluate outcome of 25 gauge vitrectomy technique for various retinal
pathologies.
Conclusion: 25 gauge vitrectomy is generally a safe procedure
