today.
Just in case, you have been living under a rock, ChatGPT is an AI chatbot and stands for “Chat Generated Pre-Trained Transformer” – that’s a mouthful! Since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, the
world hasn’t stopped talking about it. It can do keyword research generate ad copy – even poems if you like. We still haven’t seen enough comprehensive use cases of how we can leverage it in PPC. We are going to attempt it today!
The question is – is it coming for our jobs?
An iconic magazine ad by the agency Young and Rubicam! It’s Amazing how familiar, and fresh, almost sixty y o advertisement can feel!
This is a website that sells overprice cat furniture, I’m in no way associatef with them. I bought a furniture for my cat from there which she absolutely love. And we’ll be using this as a test site.
They were a little generic, but not bad! Of course in an ideal world I’ll be using Google KW planner or SEM Rush, but for the sake of this experiment we’ll try to do everruthing with ChatGPT. They were a little generic so in my next prompt, I asked it to narrow them down
Okay! Good start.
So then I asked it to give me the searh volume and
And it told me that it didn’t have the search volume data and suggested some tools that I can use
I then asked again to estimate the search volume and something interesting happened!
It gave me search volumes for some of the keywords!
So I was curious, I asked what tool it used to get these numbers,
And it told me that it used Google KW planner!
For those who can’t see, its not how I organise my ad groups!
So I had to be a bit more specific and organise them by cat, dog and pet. Sweet
And it did.
Wishful thinking!
Both me and muffin were equally annoyed!
It was very polite and it apologised but gave me the same answer. Muffin wasn’t impressed
And the ads were “hand gesture” okay!
Bearing in mind we are selling cat furnitures, I asked to use a more playful tone
I was like , that’s my AI!
It was very polite, apologised and rewrote them!
Same design amends needed
I was getting a bit impatient.
I’m sorry if I’m not good enough for you!
It was over the character limit again
At that point I was writing in all Caps
It fixed it. I repeated the same process for all the ad groups. I only had 6 ad groups and it was a simple campaign.
Moving forward, there were some other areas it was pretty good at.
And it did. Obviously not as torough but a good starting point!
Now this isn’t something you need for every campaign, just out of curiosity
I was pleasantly surprised hw good it was
I did not have much expectation but
Not only it suggested what ad extensions I could use, it also gave me examples! For the first 4 ad groups!
ChatGPT is useful for brainstorming ideas when it comes to keyword research or ad copy writing, it can provide a useful starting point.
•Persistence is the key, don’t give up, follow up and ask it to modify the answer with new information.
•Be very specific, i.e. specify character limits/tone of voice
•Don’t cancel your Semrush subscription just yetChatGPT, just like any tool, is only as good as those who use it. If used in a clever way, it can help you perform your role with much greater efficiency and effectiveness.
