Family Poaceae
Introduction:
The name of plant family POACEAE was given by John Hendley Barnhart in 1895. This
name was given on the basis of tribe Poeae. The type genus Poa described by Carl Linnaeus. The
term is derived from ancient Greek word Poa meaning fodder.
It is also called Gramineae or Grass family. It is large and ubiquitous family of
monocotyledonous flowering plants. It shows the fifth largest plant family.
Its scientific classification is as follow:
