The Seed Project is a research program to understand the obstacles to the digitalization of agriculture, assess its potential impact on production and environment and promote existing AgTech innovations.
Check out our presentation for more details and let us have an impact together!
2. Executive Summary
We are 5 students from world-best universities leading an ambitious research
program focused on technology in agriculture (AgTech).
Agriculture is about to face the greatest production challenge of its history. Yet, it is
today the least digitalized sector.
In this respect, The Seed Project wants to firstly understand the reasons of this
situation, then assess the potential impact of digitalization on agriculture and finally
promote innovation in this field.
In concrete terms, we offer our sponsors:
• A comprehensive report answering the following problematic: why is agriculture the
least digitalized sector when it has to face to greatest production challenge of its history?
• A ranking of the 50 best AgTech start-ups in the world, following the methodology of
Etienne Krieger, PhD, Head of the HEC Entrepreneurship Center.
• Digital contents with a large reach on social media.
In order to maximize the value for our partners, we will follow a 2-step methodology:
1. Collect and analyze all available data: market researches, research papers etc.
2. Collect and analyze our own on-the-field data by visiting targeted countries and
meeting selected farmers and entrepreneurs.
Fund our project and let us have an impact together.
3. Origin of the project
The paradox of agriculture
+70%
The growing population
implies
a 70% increase
in global food demand
by
2050.
When many sectors
are growing faster
thanks to technology,
agriculture is still
today the least
digitalized field.
Yet, agricultural
yields for strategic
crops (wheat, soy,
corn) have stagnated
in the U.S. since
1995.

Seed will build a comprehensive
database of AgTech start-ups using all
available channels:
• Web (AgFunder)
• Incubators
• Universities
• Fairs and conferences
Seed will perform a qualitative pre-
analysis to identify the 200 best
candidates.
We will eventually rank the start-ups
using our partner’s (Etienne Krieger,
head of the HEC Entrepreneurship
Center) well-proven methodology.
iii. Data Collection iv. Final Ranking
ii. Pre-selectioni. Sourcing
Seed will visit our preselected
candidates in person to gather valuable
on-the-field data on:
• Market and value proposition
• Management and HR
• Activity and competitive advantage
• Financial and economic data
7. Report
A deep analysis to understand the current situation
5
Seed will provide comprehensive knowledge to explain:
I. Why agriculture is the least digitalized sector
II. How digitalization could solve the production challenge
III. The current situation and next trends of innovation in AgTech
We will base our analysis on a two complementary-step method:
Seed will synthetize and
analyze all available
data (market reports,
research papers, our
partners’ data).
Seed will visit 6+ strategic
countries and meet
targeted farmers to collect
its own on-the-field data.
