The Global Strategy is implemented through a
governance mechanism at different levels
The programme is funded through a Global Trust Fund
managed by FAO and sponsored currently by DFID, Gates
Foundation and the Italian Cooperation
Additional funding mobilized in Africa (European Union)

• SDG related topics: sustainability, productivity, decent work, agri-

2016-2017
•Training: participation to training sessions organized by
UNECA

• Regional action plan to be finalized and endorsed by the
regional steering committee
• Plans for organizing a development partners conference
when the regional action plan is endorsed (2016)
Near East
The global strategy is a comprehensive framework for improving the availability and use of agricultural and rural data, necessary for evidence-based decision making.
3 Pillars:
Produce a minimum set of core data
Better integrate agricultural statistics into National Statistical Systems
Improve governance and statistical capacity building
In-depth country assessments help identify the appropriate short-term interventions required by each country and develop long-term statistical sector strategies
Cost effective methods are implemented in countries as a result of a specific research programme
Countries are provided with technical assistance and guidance to create the appropriate framework for developing sustainable agricultural and rural statistical systems
Country experts are provided with training and statistical training centres’ capacities are upgraded
In-depth country assessments help identify the appropriate short-term interventions required by each country and develop long-term statistical sector strategies
Cost effective methods are implemented in countries as a result of a specific research programme
Countries are provided with technical assistance and guidance to create the appropriate framework for developing sustainable agricultural and rural statistical systems
