3. Soil analysis in my country
•There are three labs running routine soil tests
(Department of Agricultural Research Soils Lab-
reference, National University of Lesotho Agric
Soils Lab and Material Testing lab)
•They are ‘immobile’ laboratories
•Soil test kits are used but not that common
4. Strengths
•Use of sophisticated power supply- solar system
coupled with LEC
•There is lab space
•Commitment of present lab staff
•Acquired modern equipment (Auto analyser 3, Carbon
& nitrogen elemental determinator (CN 628),
Microwave Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometer,
Robotic pH & electrical conductivity analyser (AS 3020))
•Take use of opportunities (collaborating partners’
resources)
5. Points for improvement
•Make the recycling system connected to distillation
system work effectively
•Recruit more staff (e.g. safety officer, lab assistant)
•Complete workbench top installation
•Government modus operandi be made to suit external
suppliers (prepayment of services before work is done)
•Develop strategies for waste management and disposal
•Acquire Laboratory Information Management Systems
(LIMS) software
6. Expectations out of this meeting and GLOSOLAN
•Get possible resolutions to the challenges (especially
Disposal and LIMS)
•Have collaborating partners for proficiency
testing/inter-laboratory testing
•Meet and know GLOSOLAN AND RESOLAN partners
•Have deeper understanding about GLOSOLAN
