2. My target audience was both genres of males and females, aged 16-
25.
I have tried to appeal to both genders by the layout and as I
researched I found out that many music magazines use similar
colours therefore I used common colours of red white and black, to
attract my target audience. My images are only females which could
seem to be biased and aimed more towards that genre but by the
usage of the colours, layouts and font I have tried to also appeal to
males as well.
Reception theory was used to create personal relationships which is
able to increase amount of brand loyalty. This was useds for the
audiences to be able to relate to the artists which were featured in
the magazines by the mise-en-scene and the facial expressions as
well as the body language.
Attracting the audience
3. Front cover
The image which is used is of a very stereotypical young female
therefore it is more likely to be attracted towards the target audience
as they could relate to her age group. It also would attract the readers
eyes by the direct mode of address as the reader would feel like the
artist is personally looking at them.
I have used pull quotes to attract the audience as it makes them
question what that specific article is about. In the features I have also
used artists which the audience would recognise to be able to create
an attraction to the magazine. The title of the magazine is large and
bold in order to stand out from other magazines.
4. Contents page
the layout of this page is made for easy navigation and convenience
of the reader therefore there are different sections, such as the
features and images and a subscription box. This is for the audience
to recognise what is more important and draw them in to the main
articles of the magazine.
I’ve have also used a subscription box which can create brand royalty
from the customer and is more likely to increase number of
customers as they would prefer to pay less money than paying the
full price.
As my target audience are 16-25 years old I had to create a box for
the social media links of the magazines because the majority of
readers are on at least one type of social media, this would be able to
draw in more customers by seeing what is featured in the magazine
and any other extra information.
5. Double page spread
For the audience to recognise of what artist is
featured in this page, I put their name in capitals in
the right side of the page in red to stand out from the
rest of the page, the colour of this also contrasts with
the colour of her lips.
The image is very bold with the model using direct
mode of address this is done in propose of drawing in
attention from the target audience as this is the first
thing they will look at when opening this page.
To draw attention to the article I used a pull quote,
which would be one of the first things the audience
would see. Therefore that’s what would be able to
draw the attention toward the article this also creates
hermeneutic questions, for the reader when the pull
quote is seen before the article is read.
