All participants are expected to actively contribute to projects. If fees are levied the Board of Pariticpants decides on the level of fees. Every participating institution automatically has a seat in the Board of Directors. [CLICK] The Board of Directors discusses all matters regarding the European Digital Library, including the annual budget and annual accounts. They decide overall strategy, and fee levels and elect from their members an Executive Committee. In a Foundation under Dutch law the legal power and financial accountability lies with the Executive Committee [CLICK] The Associate members are welcome to participate but have no voting rights [CLICK}
EDL Foundation is the legal entity that employs people, and can bid for funding and seek sponsorship Policy is set by a Board comprising the Chairs and Presidents of the key professional member organisations Their involement gives us much greater traction among their membership: Each of these organisations communicates and endorses Europeana’s objectives to their members – which includes just about every cultural heritage organisation in Europe. So we know that at the senior professional level we have coverage

This table summarises the 12 Europeana elements. The second column indicates who is responsible for supplying the value in that element, whether or not it is mandatory and what form the provider must use, and the third column shows what function it supports. Talk through briefly - Facets – will come to on next couple of slides Year – supports the date facet and the timeline
These then are the elements that are normalised – and the required values
The vision of Europeana project universe is for groups of institutions to get together, to aggregate their data, to create either sector or thematic websites which also be harvested by Europeana. [CLICK] In this vision, Europeana V1.0 and EuropeanaConnect are closely interlinked with each other. V1.0 will create the fully operational version of Euroepana over next 2 years [CLICK] This is an overview of the independent projects ’ relation to Europeana and their main goal, which is to bring normalised, standardised content to Europeana. S ome of them are “dark aggregatiors” in the making, such as EuropeanaTravel or EuropeanaLocal. These will not be accessible to users but will create aggregations of content available through Europeana. EFG is of major importance in this equation because of its film specificity. All these projects help creating Europeana, which is owned by the EDL Foundation and funded by projects of the EU. The EDL Foundation is a partner in each of these projects to try to help them in standards and normalisation and to ensure open communication channels. [CLICK] In the outer group, there are Digitisation or Preservation projects that support Europeana in its long term vision. ARROW for example addresses issues behind “Orphan and out of print work”. Arrow’s objective is to make it easy for libraries to digitise work and make it accessible to the network through rights clearance mechanisms.
This slide provides a timeline introduction to the Europeana project universe witht the major releases. [CLICK] The Rhine release is scheduled for July 2010. This release focuses mostly on Content and Functionality. It will also integrate APIs for interactions with other applications. The functional specifications is currenlty being set. [CLICK] For the Danube release , which is scheduled in Spring 2011 the main focus is technology and architecture . This means a major integration of EuropeanaConnect Deliverables . The Danube release should contain "new" technologies validated in the R&D Content checker tool. This implies that we plan to add technologies such as Rich Mobile client , that will allow people to make full use of Europeana via mobile devices
