Editor's Notes
I thought it might be helpful to give a brief overview to you of who we are and why we feel so strongly about this topic. At Esker, our mission is to help businesses “Quit Paper” — and improve processes by eliminating manual tasks. While we use the “Quit Paper” as a sort of battle call – it is really so much more than quitting actual “paper” because today it is not just paper but electronically received documents, usually emails with pdf attachments, that are truly creating much of the manual tasks that are taking place in organizations.Esker has been recognized by Gartner, IDC and other analysts as a key player in the market for document process automation solutions. We’ve helped well-known companies such as Microsoft, Whirlpool, and many others automate business-critical processes. We’re a global company with 24 years of practical experience, including and a long history of innovation in fax technology. Esker specializes in the cash conversion cycle, automating sales orders, accounts receivables purchasing, and accounts payable from end to end to drive productivity, efficiencies, and profits.Esker has a patent on the core technology behind its document process automation solutions. And we’ve been a pioneer in Software as a Service. This isn’t a new thing for us … we’ve doing it for about 8 years.
Overview of AR process
So, what’s the cost of manually driven paper invoice processes? Let’s get to the bottomline. Well, there’s the price of a postage stamp — which is constantly rising. But that’s just the beginning. The full cost goes much deeper. Manual invoice processing is all non-value tasks . There’s really nothing productive in these tasks for the company or customer service. Many companies have their AR specialists tasked with nonsense work, like folding, stuffing, stamping envelopes. Now add that on to costs like — paper, toner, printer ink, etc. — and the necessary hardware, such as printers or, for those who have invested in some level of automation, perhaps a folder, or an inserter or a metering machine, and the associated maintenance of that equipment. And the costs don’t end there — because you have to store all the paper. So, you find additional unproductive tasks associated with search and retrieval to find invoices in dispute, or during an audit. Most AR specialists tell us documents aren’t where they should be; and even when they are, they take too long to find. Think about the time wasted searching for an invoice that could be in a box somewhere or stored in a warehouse.
