Outside of work, Erol Onel maintains a passion for music and plays several instruments, including the guitar. Increasing guitar picking speed not only helps players perform fast-paced songs, but it also loosens up their entire style of playing. To start this process, players must improve their overall technique by practicing their hand positions, posture, and chord changes slowly. They must also master the proper angling technique for the pick.

This position minimizes picking motion and increases speed. Once guitar players master their technique, they can gradually increase their speed. A simple way of doing this is by adopting an alternative picking method of playing. With this technique, players hold the pick between their thumb and index finger and play only with alternating up and down strokes. Ideally, players should hold the pick loose enough to avoid tension in the arm, but firmly enough that it does not move in their hand. Finally, guitar players should get a metronome to ensure they do not lose accuracy when increasing their speed and practice regularly.
