6. I’m all for making
dining patios
smokefree but I think it
should be left up to
individual restaurant
owners to impose such
smoking restrictions.
It’s not government’s
job to regulate that.
Let’s keep doing the
voluntary policies you
have been so
successful at.

8. I understand what
non-smokers are
feeling, I don’t like
secondhand smoke
there either, but I think
we need to be fair to
smokers. I think we
need to accommodate
them by letting them
smoke on the patios
of restaurants, since
they can’t smoke
indoors.
9. I understand what
you’re saying about
how bad
secondhand smoke
is. But on balance it
just seems like a
huge burden to put
on the restaurant
owners to have to
enforce this policy in
their restaurants.
10. I support the steps
the state has taken to
protect people inside
their workplaces. But
I think that outdoor
smoke isn’t as a
serious or urgent a
problem… it just gets
blown away.
11. I think that non-
smokers have to
bear some of
responsibility for
avoiding
secondhand
smoke in outdoor
public places.
12. Why would we waste
time on dealing with
the secondhand smoke
in outdoor dining? It’s
not a priority issue, we
have other bigger
problems we need to
deal with right now.
13. Secondhand smoke at
outdoor seating at
restaurants doesn’t
seem like a problem to
me, I never see it when
I go out to eat.
14. People are just
going to do what
they’re going to do
(even if it’s
something
unpleasant like
smoking on
restaurant
patios), you can’t
police their every
move.
15. Making a big deal
about smoking in
outdoor dining will
drive away smokers
who want to go to
restaurants. This is
their community too.
16. People are at the
restaurants and bars
to enjoy themselves.
They don’t need to be
badgered with signs
and rules that spoil
their enjoyment.
