HE and Careers @ Colfe’s – Newsletter for years 12, 13 and 11
The Christmas holidays always mark the end of the UCAS application process for
us at Colfe’s and this has been our biggest cohort of students applying to
university. It is brilliant to see that some students already have five offers for their
chosen unis and the next step will be to get the offers down to one firm and one
insurance place. Equally, we are now seeing a much larger number of students
asking about degree apprenticeships and all of the Year 13s going through the
gruelling five stage assessment processes are doing really well. Degree
apprenticeships are worth in excess of £55,000, so they are understandably
competitive and there are still not enough of them. So at Colfe’s most students in
Year 13 apply for university as well as an apprenticeship.
Whatever your career choices are after Colfe’s we will do our best to support you.
Happy Christmas! Mrs Bean dbean@colfes.com
I am in school Mon, Tue, Thurs, Friday until 1.30/2pm and all day on Wednesdays.

Colfe’s in person Careers Fair Tuesday, 21 March 2023 and parents can you help?
Colfe’s first in person Careers’ Fair since 2018 will take place on the evening of Tuesday, 21 March
2023. Anyone from Year 10 upwards will be expected to attend and more details will be sent
around in the New Year. If any parent would be willing to join us on the evening to talk about your
profession, we would love to have you on the team. We know that many of our students have had
their own “lightbulb moments” when talking to you about your careers at previous events. If you
can help, do please email me on dbean@colfes.com to put your name on the list.
Year 10s to 13s, please put the date in your calendar.

Parents’ Guide to applying to University – what they need to know to help you
Ultimately, it is you as the student who needs to keep on top of applying to
university, especially as you do the application yourself on the UCAS system.

Welcome to Zara – our new Careers’ Ambassador
Hello, my name is Zara Raja, and I’m the current Careers’ Ambassador. I am in year 13 and
studying: Economics, Politics, Business, and History, and I hope to study Politics and International
Relations at university. I wanted to be the Careers’ Ambassador this year to increase awareness of
the amazing opportunities available at Colfe’s, which can be used when applying to university but
also when developing crucial life skills. I would like to try to raise awareness of all the
opportunities by writing about them in the school newsletter and promoting them at the March
Careers Fair. Did you know that school offers more than 20 clubs in the 6th
form ranging from
History and Film to Chess? For example, debating club which currently takes place on a Tuesday
afterschool is a great way to build confidence. If there is one message you can take away from
reading this, please get involved in everything the school as to offer! I am very excited about
helping out this year with Careers at Colfe’s and watch out for more information from me. Zara
Year 12 HE and careers interviews January to March – get your questions ready
Starting next term, every Year 12 will be given an HE and Careers interview. Some interviews will be with Mrs Bean and
others will be with external advisers from EC Careers. This is the time to ask for any advice about university,
apprenticeships or careers and all of the advisers are very experienced working with 6th
formers

make decisions. You can also write
about it on your personal statement.
Liverpool is also a Russell Group
university, but we talk a lot about
other competitive unis here at
Colfe’s including Loughborough,
Bath and Lancaster.
