Over the past few years, the idea of passing it along, sharing the love, or paying it forward has taken hold. The concept is merely doing something good for someone else without wanting or expecting anything in return. Whether the act is a charity donation or a sincere compliment, the point is to spread kindness.

The conceptis merely doing something good for

inreturn. Whether the actis a charity donationor a
sincere compliment, the pointis to spread kindness.
This movement has gained so much traction that it even has
its own day (April 28th is International Pay It Forward Day)
and a website. The Pay It Forward Day website aims to
inspire more than 10 million acts of kindness around the
world, and believes that “small acts, when multiplied by
millions of people, can change the world for the better.”
3. Paying it forward can help create a ripple effect of
generosity and thoughtful behavior to friends, families,
neighbors, and strangers, and it will make you feel good
too. Here are some ways you can “pass it along” daily:
4. LISTEN.
One of the fundamental parts of being human is the want, and need, for human
connection. Many people feel isolated and alone, and a simple act of listening to a story
or sharing a conversation can mean the world to them. Be proactive and let people in
your life know you are always there if they need to talk. Outside of families and friends,
you can make a significant impact by volunteering at nursing homes and hospices.
Oftentimes, these organizations have programs that match volunteers with people who
have little to no visitors.
5. Sharing sincere compliments or praise can be a very tiny
way to brighten someone’s day. Every day we all strive to
do our best and look our best, and sometimes we need to
hear that we are noticed or that those things are
appreciated. Keep an eye out for opportunities throughout
your day to compliment others. It is as easy as telling a
person on the sidewalk that their outfit is stylish or a
parent in line that they are doing an excellent job. The key
is to mean it.
Be Sincere.
6. PAY IT FORWARD
CARDS.
This is a great strategy for creating a more substantial
ripple effect. You create “pass it along” cards that explain
the concept and encourages others to continue the
process. If you happen to put more coins in the parking
meter, slip the card on the windshield for them to find.
The receiver will then recognize the act of kindness and
will be more likely to then spread the love further.
7. THIS IS A GREAT OPTION FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO GET
THEIR CHILDREN INVOLVED. START BY CHOOSING WHO
YOU WANT TO MAKE CARE PACKAGES FOR. HOMELESS?
DEPLOYED SOLDIERS? THE ELDERLY? THEN MAKE A LIST
OF POSSIBLE PACKAGE CONTENTS. A HANDMADE CARD IS
ALWAYS A GREAT CHOICE WHEN CHILDREN ARE
INVOLVED. ONCE THE ITEMS HAVE BEEN PURCHASED AND
BAGGED, GET THEM OUT THERE. IF YOU ARE DELIVERING
TO THE HOMELESS OR ELDERLY, ENLIST YOUR CHILDREN
FOR HELP. IT WILL BE AN EXPERIENCE THEY WON’T
FORGET!
