Energy efficiency improvement measures implemented
by the partipants in 2017 reduce Finland’s total annual
energy consumption by 2.9 TWh. Savings in final energy
consumption were 2.6 TWh.
Savings result from 3,700 individual energy efficiency
measures. The savings equal to 0.8% of Finland’s total
energy consumption in 2017.

During the previous agreement period 2008-2016
the average amount of new annual energy savings
was 1.8 TWh. In 2017, it climbed to 2.9 TWh/a. The
significant increase in annual savings arised from
a couple of exceptional saving measures made in the
energy intensive industry.

IN2017
Efficient use of energy is one of the key means
to mitigate climate change. Energy efficiency
is globally recognized as the “first fuel” when
aiming to reduce energy consumption and
greenhouse gas emissions.
In 2017, the 3,700 saving measures made by the
participants decreased annual CO2
emissions by
0.8 million tonnes.
This equals to the average
carbon footprint of
80,000
million tonnes.
In 2017 measures decreased
annual CO2
emissions by
0.8
Measures implemented in 2017, cut annual
carbon dioxide emissions by 0.8 million tonnes.
During the previous agreement period 2008-
2016 corresponding new emission reduction
was annually approximately 0.5 million tonnes.
