3. Christmas Recipe Idea
Top 10 Tips for Families
At MEND, we give families all sorts of ideas to help them get fitter, healthier and happier, like these top ten tips…
1. Eat breakfast every day. Have a piece of fruit, a low fat yoghurt, wholegrain cereal or wholemeal or granary toast.
2. Drink six to eight cups of water every day.
3. Drink less soft drinks. Have a maximum of one glass (200ml) of fruit juice a day and limit the sugary fizzy drinks you have.
4. Swap ‘white’ starchy foods (like white bread, white pasta and white rice) for wholemeal or wholegrain varieties.
5. Eat at least five fruit and vegetable servings every day.
6. Have no more than five treats per week. One treat could be a small bag of crisps, two small biscuits, a small slice of cake, a small chocolate bar or a small or treat size bag of sweets.
7. Limit your screen time. Spend no more than two hours a day watching TV, on the computer or playing computer games.
8. Do at least two exercise sessions per week. Each session should make your heartbeat and breathing faster.
9. Organise at least one activity a week to get the whole family moving. Children should play outdoors as often as possible.
10. Use the car less. Walk or cycle as much as you can. Do you really need to go to and from school or work in the car.
Look out for our #MENDadvent and #MTAadvent tweets for more Christmas recipe ideas!
FESTIVE FUN
*EXCITING NEWS*
Our Twitter advent calendar starts on December 1st! We will be giving healthy food and activity ideas every day of advent!
Ingredients
4 servings
2 red apples
40g raisins
15g peanut butter
8 thin pretzel sticks
Directions
Slice apples in half from top to bottom and scoop out the cores using a knife. If you have an apple corer, core them first, then slice. Place each apple half flat side down on a small plate.
Dab peanut butter on to the back of the 'lady bird', then stick raisins onto the dabs for spots. Use this method to make eyes too. Stick one end of each pretzel stick into a raisin, then press the other end into the apples to make antennae.
Red apples are decorated to look like ladybirds. This is a quick and fun snack that kids will enjoy making and eating. For once kids can play with their food.
