The document summarizes the findings from a survey on mental health awareness. The survey asked 10 people questions about their demographics, knowledge of mental health issues and charities, and what they would like to know more about. Key findings included that most respondents were younger females, over 60% were unaware of Mental Health Awareness Week, and the majority had seen campaigns or posters in places like doctors offices but not as widely. Respondents indicated a willingness to donate to mental health charities and a desire to know more about available support and specific mental health issues and conditions. Only 2 respondents knew any facts about prevalence of mental health issues.
2. The first two questions I asked my audience was about their age and
gender. I wanted tot start this way so that I could find out more about
my audience and what they new at what age and gender. Although I
found that 80% of my responses were between 16-18, 10% 19-15 and
another 10% 30+ although my responses were predominantly from
the younger audience of 18-25 this will still be very useful for me as I
aim to target young adults with my campaigns so it was useful to find
out what that age group knew and didn’t know about mental health
issues. Also in the first two questions I found that the responses were
mainly from a female audience as I had 7 responses from females and
2 from males.
3. From this question I learnt that more than 60% of the
people who took the survey didn’t know of mental
awareness week was and only 33% did. This
therefore indicates that I need to help try and raise
awareness of mental health awareness week
therefore I think this should be a key element of my
campaign as it has been proven that not many
people are aware of it and what it consists off. Also
from this question I found that the 3 people who said
that they did know what mental health awareness
week was were in the age range 16-18.
4. From this question I was pleased to see that the majority
of people I asked had seen a mental health campaign or
poster at some point. The places that they had seen
these campaigns or posters in various different places
they ranged from doctors offices, the internet, college
and also someone also mentioned the campaign which
was recently started by the Duke and Duchess of
Cambridge which aimed to stop the keep quite aspect of
mental health issues and they said that they had seen
this in a newspaper. By asking this question it helped me
to see where people usually saw these kinds of posters so
that I could aim to break out of these set places so that
more people can see the campaigns and posters rather
than just being in doctors and colleges. Also by having the
posters in newer more busy places would help them to be
more noticed and viewed by many more people and
therefore helping more people who may need it
especially if the campaigns include information on how to
get help.
5. This question helped to see whether it
would be worth basing some of my
campaign on trying to get people to
donate to mental health charities who
aren't government funded and need the
donations to carry on helping people
rather than just targeting my campaign at
helping people with mental health issues.
My campaign could also be based on the
idea that the charities need supporting in
order to support the people with mental
health issues. This question showed that
90% of the people I asked would consider
donating to a mental health charity and
this is a very good response to say that
generally mental health is more of a taboo
topic.
6. From asking this question I found that
generally people know a few things
about mental health issues but not as
much as should be known about such a
common issue that many people face.
Generally I found that people thought
at mental health issues predominantly
effects young adults due to the
pressures from todays society and
education system. As well as this some
people knew about the stigma built up
around mental health issues and how
taboo the topic is. However their were
still quite a few people who didn’t know
anything about mental health issues or
charities which is what I would like to
change in my campaign.
7. This question helped me find out what people
would like to know about mental health and from
this I found that there was a range of different
things that people would like to know about
mental health issues these range from what
support is available for people suffering with these
issues to what mental health issues there are as
some people don’t even know about the most
common mental health issues. As well as this I
found that people would also like to know how the
charities help people to recover and what work
they do to support those people with mental
health issues therefore I may feature this as part of
my campaign so that I can help inform people who
may be don’t suffer with mental health issues but
would like to either help or know how these
people who are having issues with mental health
problems are being supported. The answers I
received for this question were very varied due to
the vast range of knowledge people have and
don’t have on mental health issues.
8. From asking this question I've found
that only 2 of the 10 people that I
asked knew any facts about mental
health one fact being that 1 in 5
women will experience depression
and the other being that mental
health issues have increased among
young people in the past years. Due
to only 2 people knowing a fact
about mental health I would like
keep this as key part of my campaign
and possibly include one basic fact
on each poster so that it gets into
peoples heads about how common
these issues are.
