Rihanna was features on the cover and had a spread in Paper magazines march 2007 #BreakTheRules issue.
The style for the shoot was high – fashion meets the streets and the contrast is put together carefully and creatively. The costuming is out there with relevant
colours and styles and fits the street style approach but by high-end designers. The styling/mise en scene and the positioning is what I'm taking as inspiration
from this product as I want to incorporate bright fashions that stands out but also have my locations very street/ urban and youthful. I like the props used in
the shoot as it makes Rihanna more in the picture, rather than just standing there having her picture taken, the picture is given more life with natural actions,
for example, licking the lollipop off-guard and also leaning on the counter. I also enjoy the use of angles and I want to create the same effect with angles,
ecstatically pleasing and compliments the clothing.
Audiences are drawl to this product because of the use of the celebrity. Rihanna is one of the most influential women in todays society and people all over
the world love and follow her every move. Readers of this magazine also enjoy the funky concepts paper are known for, so putting Rihanna with one of those
cool concept is going to get lots of attention and sell lots of copies.
Paper uses images over text to get their word out. With a feature, like Rihanna, they only write a few paragraphs about the person or what ever the feature is
about. They use images to portray the feeling they want. For example with this product Rhianna is known as a "bad girl" and this issue is called "Break the
rules", therefor a fitting choice to incorporate Rihanna. They give a little information on her past and what's to come but their main objective is to sell
Rihanna as the girl who doesn't fit to any form/rules and stands out on her own and rock it! And buy the styling, costuming and casting the effect is believed
and successful.
Another part of this product I took inspiration from was the photos themselves. I want 2 photo collections of images that go together and fit the same theme.
I don't quite know what I want to incorporate but I like the idea of the shop that is used and I might take that and do some shots in takeaways around York for
the same urban/street feel but add edge modern clothing to get the overall look I want.
PAPER MAGAZINE – RIHANNA'S FEATURE
Existing Product
This issue was one of the most natural of covers, with spread inside of the same natural beauty. When known
supermodel Kendall Jenner is trying out being behind the camera encouraging young, rising Kaia to follow in
her mothers footsteps. Kaia being only 15 in these photos, Kendal wanted to capture her pour, youthful
beauty. Therefore they had the theme of nature and chose to shoot outside in a beautiful garden.
I want a range of everything in my magazine from all body types and races to Avant guard style, over the top to
very subtle, natural looks. I took inspiration from this shoot because of the nature and natural aspects. Also
the old time filter over the image which gives it a worn/aged feel. I want to try create that by either playing
around with the RGB scales and also try out some filters online.
The illustration art they add to the masthead also inspired me, I like the idea of adding illustrations that relate
to the theme of the issue, I want to create an "art issue" (mixing fashion with art) therefore I think some
colourful, funky illustration would represent the theme I'm going for.

Wonderland. - Miley Cyrus Feature
The theme for the shoot was 'Iconic', and with the fitting extroverted Miley Cyrus making another comeback this year with her
new album, the singer was chosen to feature the spring 2018 Wonderland cover, with also a DPS with a exclusive
interview. The cover is all fun and party feelings, everything Miley exudes. Therefore the setting and use of probs all
enhances Miley famous characteristics.
The inspiration I took from this shoot was the idea of catching someone mid movement, lots of her shots you can imagine her
moving and dancing and it give the image a sense of life and movement. I want to incorporate this effect with some of my
adverts as they stand out with a different feeling that other candid shots and also adds so variety of shots, so the reader
won't feel like they're just looking at the same images just different setting over and over again.
The background is a slight shade of pink, this lighting adds to the whole colour concept of fun party pinks. I want to see if I get
some of the same effects but with different colours, therefore for a production experiment I plan on playing around with the
colour gels for over the lights in the studio, to see if I get some 'quirky' and 'different' images in my magazine.
Many of the exiting product that I'm looking at have the minimalistic feel to the cover that want to create. Like this wonderland
cover the make the image (Miley) the genre of attention, they add the masthead and a brief tagline with the chosen models
name included. Especially beau my magazine is a fashion, photography magazine I believe approaching my cover with a
minimalistic approach but have an out their image that will grasp the readers attention with work nicely.

Questionnaire Analysis
Questions 1 and 2 determine out of all the 19 questionnaires
which results actually fit my target audience. My magazine is
aimed at females and for people who are interested in toe
topic of fashion photography. Therefore if answering, male and
no then the results wont matter because that’s not who I'm
aiming my product towards and I only want feedback from my
target audience. 12 out of 19 of my participants where female
with 10 understanding the concept of fashion photography and
8 of them actually buying and reading fashion magazines.
I wanted to find out what types of things my target audience liked to see in fashion magazines to help me with some idea for my adverts and articles.
The response came back with the majority stating they wanted diversity in models and some unique and creative shoots. I wanted to incorporate a
double page spread about body activism and diversity in women but wasn't sure it will translate well to my target audience so by doing this survey I
know it will be received positively. Also I from this I want to come up with some cool concept for my adverts so they're not all the same generic, person
stood inferno of a white background, I want photography and creative to be appreciated through my images and concepts.
For my small print project earlier in the year, I made an online version of print alongside a front cover for the first issue and a double page spread. I
called the first issue "The Love Issue" due to the planned timing of release and the colour and design concepts. For this issue I didn’t know to begin with
for after this survey and having the response, "fashion that isn't wearable, more like a form of art than clothing," I'm going to call this issue "The art
issue" and incorporate lots of colours and quirky fashion pieces and also write an article about modern Avant garde.
Having asked what they do like I wanted to hear what
they don’t like about published fashion magazine to see
if I can satisfy those who fit my target audience the best
I can.
Again majority mentioned diversity in models and how
most published fashion magazine's only show "one type
of women", and how its an "unrealistic body image".
One of the main factors of my magazine is that its for
any women, I want all sizes and ethnicities to be
appreciated, therefore having the information that
people want this keeps me on the right track with my
plans on having multiple models of all sizes and
ethnicities.
One answer that stood out was the boring and
"everything looks similar". Because my magazine is
fashion photography I'm going to incorporate fun,
quirky photo collections for my readers pour enjoyment
and the photos will do all the talking for themselves,
after taking not about "too much text", I'm going to let
photo collections talk for themselves and add text to
articles and double page spreads.
After seeing what my target audience likes and
doesn’t like in published magazines I thought id ask
specifically what they would like to see in a fashion
photography magazine for any new ideas or
inspiration that I can add to my plan.
A few answers caught my eye, first one being the
notice to backgrounds, not just putting a girl in once
clothes in front of a white background, using
landscapes to enhance the image and by having an
"art issue" I can put more attention on the
backgrounds and incorporate them. Contrast in
styles for different adverts so there is diversity and
in styles and the images are "funky," "unique" and
"quirky".
The answer about photography, I want to stay away
from the technical aspect of photography and focus
on the images but I might consider having a page at
the back which tells the readers the locations of
each shoot.
I wanted my target audiences opinion on what they believe is relevant in
fashion today. Therefore I pulled all the answers from the participants that
answered the questions fitting the criteria for my target audience and
anaylised them from the rest.
There was a variety of answers that I noticed I had already had in mind to
incorperate, such as: block colours, street style and who the models are.
I like the idea of florals but im considering incorperating florals through
illustrations along side my images and I don't own any florals. Diversity is
something that has come up as an asnwer from multiple questions so I will
definetly incorperate diveristy throughout the models I use. The last
answer is all about going something different and that’s what I hope to do
espesially through creating and "art issue" as I can icorperate art and
fashion together.
Interviews
Interview 1
Participant: Emma Garthwaite
Age: 19
Occupation: Media student
Question 1:
Do you think fashion and art go together? If so, How would you put them together?
Answer: Yes, either incorporate backgrounds or prints to be artistic
Question 2:
Would you prefer a mixture of all styles or the magazine to be focused on one style only?
Answer: A mixture of all styles
Question 3:
I want to try and use a variety of models, all shapes and all sixes do you think this should be given attention/
highlighted or do you think I should take focus of the models and keep the focus on the clothes?
Answer: I personally think there’s nothing wrong with doing both, have a variety of models but mainly focus
on the clothes and how banging they look on everyone
Interview 1
Observation:
I asked Emma for an interview as she's on the younger side of my target audience and also a media
student, with an interest in print media and has a unique personal style which is on trend and she
portrays confidently.
The answer to Emma's first answer is how I'll incorporate art the most with backgrounds and prints,
I like the idea of a background begin a main focus of a picture.
As I thought and in like every other interview Emma would prefer to see a variety of styles in my
magazine. I put that question in just for clarification that my audience want to see all styles even if
they don't necessarily buy or like all of them.
Emma wants focus on both the models and the fashion and that’s what I intend to do by including
articles on fashion and a double page spread on a models life.
Interview 2
Sara Churchman
Age: 22
Occupation: Fashion student
Question 1:
Do you think fashion and art go together? If so, How would you put them together?
Answer: yes! For cool shoots focused on avant-garde is when I like it best
Question 2:
Would you prefer a mixture of all styles or the magazine to be focused on one style only?
Answer: mixture for sure otherwise I'd get bored
Question 3:
I want to try and use a variety of models, all shapes and all sixes do you think this should be given attention/
highlighted or do you think I should take focus of the models and keep the focus on the clothes?
Answer: Highlight them for sure, clothes bring women to life:) and they should express that!
Interview 2
Observation:
I asked Sara for an interview as she's a fashion student at university and fits my target audience
perfectly. She's well educated with the fashion industry and has a very classic, sleek style. She has
taken pictures of landscapes in her own time for the past 4 years so appreciates quality photography.
As a fashion student I expect her answer to the first question to include the term 'avant-garde', due
to the factor of avant-garde begin one of a kind I plan to incorporate it through an article of some
avant-garde pieces I've liked recently by one or two designers in the fashion industry.
Mixture, which was pleasing to that she enjoys viewing different styles as she's someone who has a
style that she sticks to and rarely falls from.
Sara wants to see a women body be highlight through how clothes make her fee good which I want
to take as inspiration for a double page spread on body confidence.
Interview 3
Participant: Ben Harr-Gadon
Age: 20
Occupation: printer, warehouse manager for a printing/framing company
Question 1:
Do you think fashion and art go together? If so, How would you put them together?
Answer: yeah, generally for more runway clothing instead od high street
Question 2:
Would you prefer a mixture of all styles or the magazine to be focused on one style only?
Answer: Mixture
Question 3:
I want to try and use a variety of models, all shapes and all sixes do you think this should be given attention/
highlighted or do you think I should take focus of the models and keep the focus on the clothes?
Answer: Variety would be nice to see, one type of person would just be boring
Interview 3
Observation:
I asked ben for an interview because although my magazine is mainly aimed towards females I want
it to also attract male readers. Ben has a job working in print media and is surrounded by print work
of all kinds on a daily basis, he sees and therefore knows what's popular with print work that people
are purchasing from all over the world from top sites such as: amazon.com, fy.com,
notonthehighstreet.wraptious.com.
The way ben has mostly seen art in fashion is on runways through media, and that’s how I'm going
to feature it mostly with articles about the art in fashion recently.
As hoped and expected ben answers 'Mixture' for my second question, which I plan to do hopefully.
From a male perspective, he wants to see all types of people in my magazine he believes it would be
boring with just the same type of women throughout. Both sexes want a variety of women to be
highlighted therefore I plan on putting attention to this aspect of my magazine.

  • 3. Photography by Sebastian Faena Location: New York in Alphabet City Deli & Grill Rihanna was features on the cover and had a spread in Paper magazines march 2007 #BreakTheRules issue. The style for the shoot was high – fashion meets the streets and the contrast is put together carefully and creatively. The costuming is out there with relevant colours and styles and fits the street style approach but by high-end designers. The styling/mise en scene and the positioning is what I'm taking as inspiration from this product as I want to incorporate bright fashions that stands out but also have my locations very street/ urban and youthful. I like the props used in the shoot as it makes Rihanna more in the picture, rather than just standing there having her picture taken, the picture is given more life with natural actions, for example, licking the lollipop off-guard and also leaning on the counter. I also enjoy the use of angles and I want to create the same effect with angles, ecstatically pleasing and compliments the clothing. Audiences are drawl to this product because of the use of the celebrity. Rihanna is one of the most influential women in todays society and people all over the world love and follow her every move. Readers of this magazine also enjoy the funky concepts paper are known for, so putting Rihanna with one of those cool concept is going to get lots of attention and sell lots of copies. Paper uses images over text to get their word out. With a feature, like Rihanna, they only write a few paragraphs about the person or what ever the feature is about. They use images to portray the feeling they want. For example with this product Rhianna is known as a "bad girl" and this issue is called "Break the rules", therefor a fitting choice to incorporate Rihanna. They give a little information on her past and what's to come but their main objective is to sell Rihanna as the girl who doesn't fit to any form/rules and stands out on her own and rock it! And buy the styling, costuming and casting the effect is believed and successful. Another part of this product I took inspiration from was the photos themselves. I want 2 photo collections of images that go together and fit the same theme. I don't quite know what I want to incorporate but I like the idea of the shop that is used and I might take that and do some shots in takeaways around York for the same urban/street feel but add edge modern clothing to get the overall look I want. PAPER MAGAZINE – RIHANNA'S FEATURE
  • 5. This issue was one of the most natural of covers, with spread inside of the same natural beauty. When known supermodel Kendall Jenner is trying out being behind the camera encouraging young, rising Kaia to follow in her mothers footsteps. Kaia being only 15 in these photos, Kendal wanted to capture her pour, youthful beauty. Therefore they had the theme of nature and chose to shoot outside in a beautiful garden. I want a range of everything in my magazine from all body types and races to Avant guard style, over the top to very subtle, natural looks. I took inspiration from this shoot because of the nature and natural aspects. Also the old time filter over the image which gives it a worn/aged feel. I want to try create that by either playing around with the RGB scales and also try out some filters online. The illustration art they add to the masthead also inspired me, I like the idea of adding illustrations that relate to the theme of the issue, I want to create an "art issue" (mixing fashion with art) therefore I think some colourful, funky illustration would represent the theme I'm going for. • 7. Wonderland. - Miley Cyrus Feature The theme for the shoot was 'Iconic', and with the fitting extroverted Miley Cyrus making another comeback this year with her new album, the singer was chosen to feature the spring 2018 Wonderland cover, with also a DPS with a exclusive interview. The cover is all fun and party feelings, everything Miley exudes. Therefore the setting and use of probs all enhances Miley famous characteristics. The inspiration I took from this shoot was the idea of catching someone mid movement, lots of her shots you can imagine her moving and dancing and it give the image a sense of life and movement. I want to incorporate this effect with some of my adverts as they stand out with a different feeling that other candid shots and also adds so variety of shots, so the reader won't feel like they're just looking at the same images just different setting over and over again. The background is a slight shade of pink, this lighting adds to the whole colour concept of fun party pinks. I want to see if I get some of the same effects but with different colours, therefore for a production experiment I plan on playing around with the colour gels for over the lights in the studio, to see if I get some 'quirky' and 'different' images in my magazine. Many of the exiting product that I'm looking at have the minimalistic feel to the cover that want to create. Like this wonderland cover the make the image (Miley) the genre of attention, they add the masthead and a brief tagline with the chosen models name included. Especially beau my magazine is a fashion, photography magazine I believe approaching my cover with a minimalistic approach but have an out their image that will grasp the readers attention with work nicely.
  • 10. Questions 1 and 2 determine out of all the 19 questionnaires which results actually fit my target audience. My magazine is aimed at females and for people who are interested in toe topic of fashion photography. Therefore if answering, male and no then the results wont matter because that’s not who I'm aiming my product towards and I only want feedback from my target audience. 12 out of 19 of my participants where female with 10 understanding the concept of fashion photography and 8 of them actually buying and reading fashion magazines.
  • 11. I wanted to find out what types of things my target audience liked to see in fashion magazines to help me with some idea for my adverts and articles. The response came back with the majority stating they wanted diversity in models and some unique and creative shoots. I wanted to incorporate a double page spread about body activism and diversity in women but wasn't sure it will translate well to my target audience so by doing this survey I know it will be received positively. Also I from this I want to come up with some cool concept for my adverts so they're not all the same generic, person stood inferno of a white background, I want photography and creative to be appreciated through my images and concepts. For my small print project earlier in the year, I made an online version of print alongside a front cover for the first issue and a double page spread. I called the first issue "The Love Issue" due to the planned timing of release and the colour and design concepts. For this issue I didn’t know to begin with for after this survey and having the response, "fashion that isn't wearable, more like a form of art than clothing," I'm going to call this issue "The art issue" and incorporate lots of colours and quirky fashion pieces and also write an article about modern Avant garde.
  • 12. Having asked what they do like I wanted to hear what they don’t like about published fashion magazine to see if I can satisfy those who fit my target audience the best I can. Again majority mentioned diversity in models and how most published fashion magazine's only show "one type of women", and how its an "unrealistic body image". One of the main factors of my magazine is that its for any women, I want all sizes and ethnicities to be appreciated, therefore having the information that people want this keeps me on the right track with my plans on having multiple models of all sizes and ethnicities. One answer that stood out was the boring and "everything looks similar". Because my magazine is fashion photography I'm going to incorporate fun, quirky photo collections for my readers pour enjoyment and the photos will do all the talking for themselves, after taking not about "too much text", I'm going to let photo collections talk for themselves and add text to articles and double page spreads.
  • 13. After seeing what my target audience likes and doesn’t like in published magazines I thought id ask specifically what they would like to see in a fashion photography magazine for any new ideas or inspiration that I can add to my plan. A few answers caught my eye, first one being the notice to backgrounds, not just putting a girl in once clothes in front of a white background, using landscapes to enhance the image and by having an "art issue" I can put more attention on the backgrounds and incorporate them. Contrast in styles for different adverts so there is diversity and in styles and the images are "funky," "unique" and "quirky". The answer about photography, I want to stay away from the technical aspect of photography and focus on the images but I might consider having a page at the back which tells the readers the locations of each shoot.
  • 14. I wanted my target audiences opinion on what they believe is relevant in fashion today. Therefore I pulled all the answers from the participants that answered the questions fitting the criteria for my target audience and anaylised them from the rest. There was a variety of answers that I noticed I had already had in mind to incorperate, such as: block colours, street style and who the models are. I like the idea of florals but im considering incorperating florals through illustrations along side my images and I don't own any florals. Diversity is something that has come up as an asnwer from multiple questions so I will definetly incorperate diveristy throughout the models I use. The last answer is all about going something different and that’s what I hope to do espesially through creating and "art issue" as I can icorperate art and fashion together.
  • 16. Interview 1 Participant: Emma Garthwaite Age: 19 Occupation: Media student Question 1: Do you think fashion and art go together? If so, How would you put them together? Answer: Yes, either incorporate backgrounds or prints to be artistic Question 2: Would you prefer a mixture of all styles or the magazine to be focused on one style only? Answer: A mixture of all styles Question 3: I want to try and use a variety of models, all shapes and all sixes do you think this should be given attention/ highlighted or do you think I should take focus of the models and keep the focus on the clothes? Answer: I personally think there’s nothing wrong with doing both, have a variety of models but mainly focus on the clothes and how banging they look on everyone
  • 17. Interview 1 Observation: I asked Emma for an interview as she's on the younger side of my target audience and also a media student, with an interest in print media and has a unique personal style which is on trend and she portrays confidently. The answer to Emma's first answer is how I'll incorporate art the most with backgrounds and prints, I like the idea of a background begin a main focus of a picture. As I thought and in like every other interview Emma would prefer to see a variety of styles in my magazine. I put that question in just for clarification that my audience want to see all styles even if they don't necessarily buy or like all of them. Emma wants focus on both the models and the fashion and that’s what I intend to do by including articles on fashion and a double page spread on a models life.
  • 18. Interview 2 Sara Churchman Age: 22 Occupation: Fashion student Question 1: Do you think fashion and art go together? If so, How would you put them together? Answer: yes! For cool shoots focused on avant-garde is when I like it best Question 2: Would you prefer a mixture of all styles or the magazine to be focused on one style only? Answer: mixture for sure otherwise I'd get bored Question 3: I want to try and use a variety of models, all shapes and all sixes do you think this should be given attention/ highlighted or do you think I should take focus of the models and keep the focus on the clothes? Answer: Highlight them for sure, clothes bring women to life:) and they should express that!
  • 19. Interview 2 Observation: I asked Sara for an interview as she's a fashion student at university and fits my target audience perfectly. She's well educated with the fashion industry and has a very classic, sleek style. She has taken pictures of landscapes in her own time for the past 4 years so appreciates quality photography. As a fashion student I expect her answer to the first question to include the term 'avant-garde', due to the factor of avant-garde begin one of a kind I plan to incorporate it through an article of some avant-garde pieces I've liked recently by one or two designers in the fashion industry. Mixture, which was pleasing to that she enjoys viewing different styles as she's someone who has a style that she sticks to and rarely falls from. Sara wants to see a women body be highlight through how clothes make her fee good which I want to take as inspiration for a double page spread on body confidence.
  • 20. Interview 3 Participant: Ben Harr-Gadon Age: 20 Occupation: printer, warehouse manager for a printing/framing company Question 1: Do you think fashion and art go together? If so, How would you put them together? Answer: yeah, generally for more runway clothing instead od high street Question 2: Would you prefer a mixture of all styles or the magazine to be focused on one style only? Answer: Mixture Question 3: I want to try and use a variety of models, all shapes and all sixes do you think this should be given attention/ highlighted or do you think I should take focus of the models and keep the focus on the clothes? Answer: Variety would be nice to see, one type of person would just be boring
  • 21. Interview 3 Observation: I asked ben for an interview because although my magazine is mainly aimed towards females I want it to also attract male readers. Ben has a job working in print media and is surrounded by print work of all kinds on a daily basis, he sees and therefore knows what's popular with print work that people are purchasing from all over the world from top sites such as: amazon.com, fy.com, notonthehighstreet.wraptious.com. The way ben has mostly seen art in fashion is on runways through media, and that’s how I'm going to feature it mostly with articles about the art in fashion recently. As hoped and expected ben answers 'Mixture' for my second question, which I plan to do hopefully. From a male perspective, he wants to see all types of people in my magazine he believes it would be boring with just the same type of women throughout. Both sexes want a variety of women to be highlighted therefore I plan on putting attention to this aspect of my magazine.
