Statement

19. Academic History
At GCSE level I studied media and achieved a grade seven in the subject, I learned how to analyse many pieces
of media as well as create my own. As part of my GCSE work we had a choice to either create a magazine with a
front cover and a double page spread or a DVD cover, I chose to do a DVD cover as I’m interested in film I
would like to become a director one day. I created a romantic comedy called “The Same Parts” which was
about a transgender woman who was dating a man who didn’t know about her past. Throughout this subject I
learned many skills that have helped me build more knowledge on the career I want to peruse, for example I
can look at a piece of media and analyse the key aspects such as the target audience, enigma codes , star
theory’s ,representation etc.
Media was the key turning point for me as when I first started the subject I decided I wanted to peruse a career
in the film industry, as the year progressed I started to consider the career of a film director and became more
and more interested in that job roll until I decided that this was the job for me. When I finished secondary
school I was looking into courses at college, I initially wanted to do a levels and do film studies, media studies,
English language and English literature however my grades weren’t up to the standers so I found and
alternative course called ‘Creative media productions’.
The course was more hands on work, working on different projects and working with new software's etc
compared to media studies with was more writing and analyse. However I do enjoy the subject and it has and
is building my knowledge more and more.

20. Current Study
‘Creative Media production and technology’ has shown me the many different career paths that the course leads down
such as, animating, game designing, photography, directing, magazine designers etc.
Throughout the course we have created many different projects and learnt many different skills, the projects that we have
worked on in the past year include:

Right through the course I have learned skills that I haven’t learned before, the main set of skills I learnt was using a variety
of different adobe software's that I hadn’t used before such as photoshop, premiere pro and aftereffects. The software part
of the course really helped me, and I know it will help me in my future when I go to university and get a job.
Another skill I learnt that really helped me was the use of different equipment that I haven’t used before, such as; tripod,
canon camera, audio recorder, stage lights, greenscreen and many more. All these skills have helped build my confidence in
the industry I want to work in and has given me more knowledge on how to work in the environment I want to work in.
I hope that when I go to university, I will be able to keep learning new skills that will continually build my knowledge.

21. The Future
After college I would like to go to university to study a course in relation to either film making or film and
screen writing. After college I would like to pursue my dream job as a film director however I know it’s not that
simple.
At university I would like to do a minimum of 3 years to study and create new key skills that I will need in my
future for after university, I feel like 3 years is a perfect amount of time to be able to create projects I want to
create while also still learning aptitudes that will benefit me for my vocation.
Subsequently after university I will be focusing on becoming a director, however It will take some time, I would
preferably like to start out as an assistant director, that way I can work with the industry and see what it’s like
to manage a big team.
I feel like university will be a big step for me and will help my significantly in the future as I have more freedom
to produce what I want to produce, I’ll also be surrounded by many more creative people who will inspire me
to work and create, I’ll still get the opportunity to learn more about by career and I will also get to (hopefully)
submit more work to film festivals for others to see so me and my team can get recognition.

22. Outside College
Outside of college life my life style is a little different, I only go into college three times a week (Monday to Wednesday)
However I can come in on Thursdays and Fridays if needed which I have done in the past if I felt like I didn’t have much time
to finish of my projects.
I have a part-time job on Saturdays and Sundays however through school/holiday breaks I usually work five to six days.
Currently I work at Tenpin as a party organiser, as there is five of us in total working the job I am seen as the leader as I have
been their the longest and it was my job to train them. This job as helped me a lot in ways that it contributes to my future,
Throughout the year that I’ve been working there my confidence has grown massively as I have had to work with both
children and adults, teamwork is a big aspect of the job as we all have our different roles to do while the parties are going
on, however I feel like the main feature that will help me at university is the fact that I am the organiser and leader of the
party team.
My job is to make sure the other employees in the party category have certain job to carry out, I need to make sure they get
it done on time, I have to check with the parents that everything is fine, I have to think of creative games and balloon
designs to entertain the children.
Leadership is a big part of my life style and I feel like that’s the main aspects of why I’m a good candidate for university, all
directors need leadership otherwise the film won’t be up to the right standers, the film won’t be finished on time and team
members will be confused and lost.
Outside of work and college I do have my own little hobbies such has photography and drawing (some examples on the next
slide).

27. Conclusion
I want to go to university so can learn more key elements about my career,
work with other creative people to produce something we are all proud of,
practice with different equipment's and software’s and to be able to have
more knowledge about directing.
University will help me in the future as I will have more of an understanding
of how to work with a crew and how to direct, it will also allow me to have
amazing opportunities such as film festivals, nominations, working with
others and possibly make friends that will work with me in the future.
I would make a good candidate as I am able to lead a team of hard working
people confidently, I can get work done on time by putting in extra work, I’m
good at time management and I’m also good at listening and understanding
peoples point’s of views and creative ideas.

28. Introduction
I am interested in studying one of the two subjects at London of
communication college which is part of university of arts London.
The two subjects I am interested in are ‘Film and Television’ and ‘Film
Practice’ , these two subjects are the ones that stood out to me the most and
what they have to offer is exactly what I’ll enjoy doing, they will both benefit
me in the future and I can see myself enjoying both of them thoroughly.
UAL has always been the university I’ve wanted to go to as it has so many
creative courses and is full of creative people, because of these reasons I
think this university is for me and will benefit me significantly for my future. I
know I will enjoy either of the courses and I work my hardest through out the
years I am at university.
