A Strong Woman
Even though Hillary Clinton has achieved various heights and is a strong women’s right
activist; she demonstrates a side of herself where she is a bit arrogant because of her intelligence
with politics.
Wherever Hillary Rodham Clinton is to go, she needs no introduction. Hillary Clinton is a strong
minded woman; when she says something, you better believe she has the proof to back it up.
Chicago, Illinois was blessed with a future women’s right activist, U.S. first lady, and much
more on October 26, 1947. Once Clinton said "We need to understand that there is no formula
for how women should lead their lives. That is why we must respect the choices that each
woman makes for herself and her family. Every woman deserves the chance to realize her Godgiven potential." (Clinton 121)That quotation simply lets everyone know how strong of a
women’s activist she is. She didn’t become as strong as she is overnight. “Though she had some
natural intelligence; she constantly worked herself to the top. Hillary Clinton first attended
Wellesley College; where she served as senior class president and graduated in 1969.” (Clinton
123)
Montgomery 2
Clinton then attended Yale University. She wrote three articles, published in the Harvard
Educational Review, the Yale Law Journal and an academic series called Children’s Rights:
Contemporary Perspectives. She wasn’t much of a party girl. She would rather stay in and talk
about politics than go to a football game. Her mind was described as an organized mind.
Sometimes she would spend 20 hours a day studying legal precedents and the constitution.
Hillary Clinton was one of the 44 attorneys recruited to find out whether Nixon’s position
justified impeachment, and if so, how it would be handled. Hillary Clinton said when she was
studying “I was kind of locked in this soundproof room with the big headphones on, listening to
tapes.”(Clinton 102-131)
As Hillary Clinton was attending Yale, she met her future soul mate. Hillary and William Bill
Clinton got very close. It seemed as if they both were very intelligent and there was no stopping
their dreams.Their friends would say “they would either work wonderfully or fail miserably;
there’s no in between. Bill once said “I loved being with her” Clinton said “But I had very
ambivalent feelings about getting involved with her” Bill and Hillary were each other’s other
half. They entered academic competitions together and very often took on victories. They were a
team power house (Corner 151). They graduated in 1973 and Hillary graduated with honors.
Hillary Clinton worked at very many jobs throughout her summers as a college student. “In
1971, she first came to Washington, D.C. to work on U.S. Senator Walter Mondale's subcommittee on migrant workers. In the summer of 1972, she worked in the western states for the
campaign of Democratic presidential nominee George McGovern.”(Clinton 34-99)
Montgomery 3
Not too long after graduating, Hillary Clinton attended the Yale Child Study Center; and in 1974,
she became a member of the presidential impeachment inquiry staff. Hillary felt unless the child
was being put at risk, government shouldn’t interfere in family affairs.
October 11, 1975 Hillary Rodham married the love of her life, Bill Clinton. In 1978, Bill was
elected as the Governor of Arkansas, and Hillary Clinton began her 12 year successfuland
exciting role as the First Lady of Arkansas.” (King 22) Not only was she the First Lady of
Arkansas, and was maintaining her wonderful profession as a lawyer; the power couple had their
only child, Chelsea Victoria Clinton; who was born on February 27th, 1980.(Corner 386-402)
“It was not until Bill decided to run for president, however, that Hillary Rodham-Clinton became
the internationally known woman, she is today.” Most say that if it were not for Hillary Clinton’s
involvement in Bill Clintons political life, he may not have accomplished all of the things that
he’s achieved. In 1992 some people didn’t like how involved Hillary Clinton was with Bill’s
political life. “Bill always came to Hillary’s defense, often claiming that, if elected, Hillary
Clinton would be an integral part of his presidency, a “two for one deal.”(King 36-92)
Bill Clinton was inaugurated January 20, 1993. Hillary Clinton took advantage of her position as
first lady of the United States of America and involved herself in every way possible and more.
Bill Clinton made Hillary Clinton head of the Task Force on National Health Reform. “Another
topic dear to the First Lady’s heart was, and remains so to this day, women’s rights. During her
eight years as First Lady, Hillary Clinton went to the 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women
in Beijing, China were she delivered a famous speech”, saying that “human rights are women's
rights, and women's rights are human rights.” While her husband’s presidency, particularly his
Montgomery 4
second term, was marred with scandal and bad publicity, Hillary Clinton used her position as a
stepping stone for her future successes.” (Clinton 1)
In 2000, she let everyone know that she was going to strive for the New York seat. As senate
Hillary Clinton prevailed her strong mindedness, and her willingness and natural ability to work
with others, especially on September 11, 2001 which the terrorist attack took place.During her
years as Senate, “she served on the Armed Services Committee, the Health, Education, Labor
and Pensions Committee, the Environment and Public Works Committee, the Budget Committee
and the Select Committee on Aging. She was also a Commissioner on the Commission on
Security and Cooperation in Europe.” No one would so much for their country unless they loved
it from the bottom of their heart. “Clinton became the first wife of a president to seek and win
national office and the first woman to be elected to the U.S. Senate from New York. She easily
won re-election in November 2006.” (Goldenburg 155-172)Hillary Clintons long nights of
studying and debates are paying off and she is got to experience stuff that many Americans will
never understand or get to explore.
In 2007 Hillary Clinton announced that she was running for president in the 2008 elections. The
election was bound to be historic no matter what. It was either a male African American, or a
female that would become president. They both ran a great race and demonstrated hard work,
determination, and a tremendous amount of wonderful work ethic; but Hillary Clinton fell short.
“She then was appointed to Secretary of State of the United States and continues to work
toimprove American foreign policy and relationships with international powers. During her term
Montgomery 5
as secretary of state, Clinton used her position to make women's rights and human rights a
central talking point of U.S. initiatives.” She became one of the most traveled secretaries of State
in American history, and promoted the use of social media to convey the country's positions.
Shealso led U.S. diplomatic efforts in responding to the Arab Spring and military intervention in
Libya.”“December 30, 2012, Hillary Clinton was hospitalized with a blood clot related to the
concussion that she had suffered earlier in the month. She was released from a New York
hospital on January 2, 2013, after receiving treatment, and soon recovered and returned to work.”
(Clinton 53) She took no time off. Bettering herself was like bettering the United States. “Clinton
has been mentioned as a potential candidate for the 2016 presidential election. However, she has
not publicly discussed her possible interest in another bid for the White House.” (Davis 201-221)
If Hillary is to win in 2016, without a shadow of a doubt everyone should know that she will
make her country proud; as if she hasn’t already?
