  7. 7. EXAMPLES OF TEACHING APPROACHES SOME ARE paired for purposes of contrastTEACHER- CENTERED • Is perceived to be the only reliable source of information • Telling and prescribing what learners should do • Teacher dominated LEARNER- CENTERED • Is premised on the belief that the learner is also an important resource
  8. 8. SUBJECT matter- centered • Gains primacy over the learner • Also teacher dominated • Sticking to course syllables or lesson plan LEARNER- CENTERED classroom • Teacher makes adjustment in his/her lesson plan
  9. 9. INTEGRATED • Students are expected to construct knowledge and meaning “BANKING” approach • Teacher deposits knowledge into the “empty” minds of students CONSTRUCTIVIST DISCIPLINAL • The teacher connect what he/she teaches to the other lessons of the same subject • Limits the teacher to discussing his/her lessons
  10. 10. COLLABORATI VE • Teacher directly tells or shows or demonstrates INDIRECT- guided • Teacher guided the learner to discover things for himself/herself DIREC T INDIVIDUALISTIC • Welcome group work, team work, partner-ship, group discussion • Want individual students working by themselves
  11. 11. INTERACTIVE classroom • More student talk and less teacher talk TEACHER- dominated classroom • Only the teacher’s voice is heard. • The sole dispenser of information. Other teaching approaches cited in education literature are:  Research- based- approach  Whole child approach  Metacognitive approach  Problem-based approach
