1. AN ADDRESS DELIVERED BY THE GOVERNOR OF
EKITI STATE, DR. KAYODE FAYEMI, AT THE COMMISSIONING AND HANDING OVER
CEREMONIES OF THE NESREA DEMONSTRATION WASTE CONTROL PILOT PROJECT
IN ADO-EKITI ON MONDAY, 11TH JUNE, 2012.
Protocols,
I am highly delighted to be here today for the commissioning and handing over of the NESREA
demonstration waste control pilot projects to Ekiti State.
I like to thank the Federal Government for selecting Ekiti as one of the States for this pilot
project. More than anything else, I see the choice of the state not only as an acknowledgement
but also a support for the infrastructural development drive of this government as enshrined in
our 8 Point Agenda.
While not blowing our own trumpet, the State Government has obviously provided an enabling
environment for the success of the projects being commissioned today. This we were able to do
through the:
i. Provision of land space at Erinfun and Ilokun sites;
ii. Diversion of waste deposits to the sites in order to get enough supplementary
organic waste to feed the compost plant;
iii Provision of ten (10) trainees for the consultants;
iv. Facilitating good working relationship between NESREA, Waste Management
Board and the three waste contractors handling waste collection in the state especially at the
GRA and the Federal Housing demonstration sites; and
2. v. Commencement of the tarring of the roads leading to Ilokun and Erinfun project
sites to ease project vehicles movement.
Let me assure that these project sites would soon be connected to the National Grid to ensure
their smooth and cost effective operations.
Once again, I like to express appreciations the Federal Government on the choice of our dear
State for this unique pilot project and for the provision of the colour coded waste bins (for
segregation of waste) for the households at GRA and Federal Housing Estates.
I assure you all that the state will make a judicious use of the plants immediately they are
handed over to us, while efforts will be made to replicate this in all the Local Government Areas
of the State.
May I please draw attention to the ongoing integrated Waste Management Project at Fagbohun
Ikere-Ekiti. I am sure that its earlier completion would make the state to begin to draw the
accruing benefit early enough.
I wish the Honourable Minister, her entourage and all our guests travelling mercies on their
return journey. It is now my please to commission this project to the glory of God and continued
growth of Ekiti State.
Thank you and God bless.
