3. What is It? The Asymetric Digital Subscriber Line is a system of internet connection. It is a Broadband network.

4. What is the difference? In the era of Dial Up, if big companies wanted the internet…. They needed to maintain their own modems.

5. Disadvantages. This company would need two rooms full of modems for use of the phone and the internet. This is because Dial Up had to dial up the ISP and send data from the internet via phone signals. This meant it was also prohibitively expensive.

6. DSL DSL comes to rescue of businesses, individuals and internet cats. It allowed for faster speeds, greater capacity of downloads and uploads, And independence from the telephone. It stands for digital subscriber line.

7. What does this mean!? (It’s so intense…) A Digital Subscriber Line is independent from the telephone. However, it does use telephone technology. It uses telephones cables and other infrastructure to send information faster than simply down the phone. This is how privatisation works. £/pa

11. Back to Topic. Information is sent faster. You have one broadband router from your provider. This modem is sometimes used for the phone as well, but a filter is used to separate the calls and the internets. This way, the internet works efficiently and cheaply, and can be used at the same time as the landline.

12. In Conclusion… What makes DSL ADSL is that it is Asymmetrical. I.e. in most cases, the download speed is greater than upload speed. Ted Stevens (R) Alaska, June 2006
