Step 1. Know my Current Situation
• Of all the doctors in this country, ___% lack the necessary expertise and
compassion (we don’t know that exact percentage)
• Doctors who lack expertise & compassion provide inadequate care
• Short term implications for people with diabetes include daily energy lows;
Long term implications may include more serious health complications
Step 2. Know what Not to Do
• I won’t expect my doctor to change or improve without any feedback
• I won’t assume he or she knows ALL; I won’t forget that my situation is unique
• I won’t keep seeing the same doctor if he or she is not answering my
questions and showing the will to invest further in my care

Hi. My name is Ed and I have a tremendous team of
experts helping me to help you. We bring folks together.
Think of our team as Oprah… but with follow-on training
& support for years after ‘that first episode you watch’.
I was born & raised in Ohio, served for 25 years as an officer in
the U.S. Coast Guard, and currently live in New England with my
beautiful wife who ‘keeps me on my toes’. Our daughter is a
student at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (New London, CT) and
our son begins his college experience in June 2016 at the
U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis MD.
I have 8 years experience as a manager at a kidney dialysis
company. I enjoy volunteering as a foster care case reviewer.
This investment in helping you to restore YOUR HEALTH is my
most meaningful ‘work’ right now. I don’t have type 2 diabetes,
but my teammates and I have family members who do.
- 8. And that’s why I founded CommutaVie.

educators dedicated to helping people Thrive despite type 2 diabetes.
We Cause Collisions… helpful ones.
We bring you into honest conversations with those doctors, educators, and
real thriving people with type 2 diabetes so thatYOUR thoughts, questions,
fears, and aspirations collide with THEIR knowledge, experience, wisdom,
and empathy. You learn from them AND you’ll have simple plans to follow.

When you land in a new place like this, you’re probably asking these questions
(I know I would be):
• What’s going on here?
• Am I comfortable here?
• Will this help me get to where I need to go?
It’s our responsibility to answer those questions truthfully, while making you
comfortable. You can decide whether this is a fit for you.
Is this right for you? Well, honestly, it is NOT right for you if you choose NOT to
do what it takes to get Control over what controls your health.
If we consider your situation, lay out a proven path, give you the tools to succeed,
and you choose NOT to do your best to follow the path, then this is not for you.
We expect everyone to stumble and have some set backs, but then dust off
and keep moving forward with our help. We are definitely results-oriented.

Author Dan Cassidy caught up with former Navy SEAL Commander Mark Divine, author of
The Way of the SEAL, who shared how you can succeed in any area of your life – whether
you want to eat right, get in shape, or accomplish any goal you set for yourself.
Navy SEALs treat obstacles as just another ineffective way to do things. They learn from
each obstacle so the task can be done better next time. Failure truly is not an option
because every setback is turned into a learning victory. Here are some SEAL SECRETS:
1. Live an examined life. What I mean by this is that the most important aspect of mental toughness is to
know yourself, what drives you and motivates you deeply.
2. Master your body, mind and emotions to excel at an elite level. To do this requires the knowledge, skills
and commitment to a life of training and daily improvement.
3. Take your eyes off yourself and put them on others, in service.
4. Learn to win in your mind before you set foot in the arena.
5. Learn to select the right targets, connected to your main purpose in life.
6. Employ KISS (keep it super simple) planning and be willing to move forward with an imperfect plan.
7. Set micro-goals, then fail forward fast.
8. Never quit, period.
