- Calculators (scientific, not graphing) will be used as support tools to solve complicated
operationsortogive exactsolutions.Therefore,theycanonlybe usedwiththe permissionof
the teacher and following the instructions as prompted by the activity / test.
- With respect to other electronic devices with Internet access, such as laptops, tablets and
mobile phones, they are not allowed to use during class, except in cases where the activity
needsto be solvedthroughBlackboardor other mathematical programs(such as Geogebra,
Socrative, Kahoot, etc.). They can also be used for research purposes, if the teacher asks.
Otherwise, if a student uses his device when not allowed, he/she will be expelled from the
class, and will get a SEDIS.
- When the entrance bell rings, the door will be closed.Students must be in the classroom at
the time,otherwiseyouwill notbe allowedentry.Late arrivalsare notallowed,andare seen
as absences.
- Each session lasts (officially) 50 minutes.
- The student must bring his or her activity of the day, either from the Workbook or printed
individually. If the studentdoes not have it at the moment the teacher asks for it, he or she
will be expelled from the class, with an absence and a SEDIS report.
- The teacher has the authority to dismiss the class when the bell rings or even later if the
current explanation has not been finished (“the bell does not dismiss the class, the teacher
does”)

 Class Activities: All class activitiesare withinthe course Workbook, available in Blackboard. It is
mandatorythat the studentbringsthe workbooktoeach class.During each class,an activitywill
be done to practice the topic explained by the teacher. Each activity may be graded based on
completeness or checked thoroughly, on the day the professor decides, but always before the
current partial period ends.
If the class activityisnot finishedonclass’time,ititseverystudent’sresponsibilitytofinishiton
his/her own accord (any questions may be solved during tutoring sessions).
 Miniquiz (by topic):
- Atthe endof each topic,aminiquizwill be appliedconsistingof 4or 5 exercises.Thisquiz
will assessthe knowledge acquiredinthe subjectseen, andwill lastfor10 or 15 minutes
max.
- To practice for miniquizes, studentscanreview Class activities andexamplesfromclass.
Moreover, there are Topic reviews that can be done (mostly exercises from the book).
 Portfolio: During the semester, the student will make an e-Portfolio. As it is expectedfrom this
kind of portfolios, the student will scan the specified documents (assesable activities, such as

exams). There isaRubric withthe full instructionsandthatthe studentmayuse to check his/her
advancement to complete it.
The portfolio will be uploaded via Blackboard per PARTIAL, on specific due dates (all dates and
necessarydocumentsare showninthecourse Schedule).Eachhandoutwillcontainthe following:
o First Partial (February 16): Miniquizzes 1 and 2, Mid-Partial 1 and Partial Exam 1.
o Second Partial (March 23): Miniquizzes 3 and 4, Mid-Partial 2 and Partial Exam 2.
o Third Partial (May 2): Miniquizzes 5 and 6, Mid-Partial 3.
Althoughitwill be uploadedperpartial, there is no grade to it but until the lastpartial, where it
will count 8%. However, each due date is final, that is, no documents will be checked after the
specified date.
 Partial Projects (2 on the course):The projectswill consistonsolvinganapplicationproblemfor
anyof the topicsof the currentpartial period.Saidproblemsmaybe extractedfromthe textbook
or any other support material, and assigned to each 4-member team, randomly.
Both projects will be documents, and a preview / advancement will be handed in on a specified
date (please check the course Schedule).
Each project will have a team Coevaluation, where every team member will assess the
performance of his/her teammates.
 Mid-Partial Exam: Each Partial will have a Mid-Partial exam. Thisexamwill coverthe firsthalf of
the partial, and will include theory and open questions. This exam will last the entire class (50
minutes) and it will be done by hand (procedure does count).
 Partial Exam: The Partial Exams will evaluate all the current Partial’scontent. It will consist of a
theory part (multiple choice questions), a practical part (with exercises similar to the examples
seen in class and activities) and an application part (with questions similar to the ones on the
Projects). All Partial exams are done by hand, and last the entirety of the class (50 minutes).
 Final Exam: The final examwillconsistof twoparts:the firstone will evaluatetheoryseenduring
the semester (with multiple choice questions), the second part consists of practical exercises
(applicationproblems), bothwillbe doneontheassigneddaybygroup,accordingtothe approved
Final exams’ schedule, and will last 80 minutes.

They can also be used for research purposes, if the teacher asks. Otherwise, if a student uses his device when not allowed, he/she will be expelled from the class, and will get a SEDIS. - When the entrance bell rings, the door will be closed.Students must be in the classroom at the time, otherwiseyouwill notbe allowedentry.Late arrivalsare notallowed, andare seen as absences. - Each session lasts (officially) 50 minutes. - The student must bring his or her activity of the day, either from the Workbook or printed individually. If the studentdoes not have it at the moment the teacher asks for it, he or she will be expelled from the class, with an absence and a SEDIS report. - The teacher has the authority to dismiss the class when the bell rings or even later if the current explanation has not been finished (“the bell does not dismiss the class, the teacher does”)

It is mandatorythat the studentbringsthe workbooktoeach class.During each class,an activitywill be done to practice the topic explained by the teacher. Each activity may be graded based on completeness or checked thoroughly, on the day the professor decides, but always before the current partial period ends. If the class activityisnot finishedonclass’time, ititseverystudent’sresponsibilitytofinishiton his/her own accord (any questions may be solved during tutoring sessions).  Miniquiz (by topic): - Atthe endof each topic, aminiquizwill be appliedconsistingof 4or 5 exercises.Thisquiz will assessthe knowledge acquiredinthe subjectseen, andwill lastfor10 or 15 minutes max. - To practice for miniquizes, studentscanreview Class activities andexamplesfromclass. Moreover, there are Topic reviews that can be done (mostly exercises from the book).  Portfolio: During the semester, the student will make an e-Portfolio. As it is expectedfrom this kind of portfolios, the student will scan the specified documents (assesable activities, such as

The portfolio will be uploaded via Blackboard per PARTIAL, on specific due dates (all dates and necessarydocumentsare showninthecourse Schedule).Eachhandoutwillcontainthe following: o First Partial (February 16): Miniquizzes 1 and 2, Mid-Partial 1 and Partial Exam 1. o Second Partial (March 23): Miniquizzes 3 and 4, Mid-Partial 2 and Partial Exam 2. o Third Partial (May 2): Miniquizzes 5 and 6, Mid-Partial 3. Althoughitwill be uploadedperpartial, there is no grade to it but until the lastpartial, where it will count 8%. However, each due date is final, that is, no documents will be checked after the specified date.  Partial Projects (2 on the course):The projectswill consistonsolvinganapplicationproblemfor anyof the topicsof the currentpartial period.Saidproblemsmaybe extractedfromthe textbook or any other support material, and assigned to each 4-member team, randomly. Both projects will be documents, and a preview / advancement will be handed in on a specified date (please check the course Schedule). Each project will have a team Coevaluation, where every team member will assess the performance of his/her teammates.  Mid-Partial Exam: Each Partial will have a Mid-Partial exam. Thisexamwill coverthe firsthalf of the partial, and will include theory and open questions. This exam will last the entire class (50 minutes) and it will be done by hand (procedure does count).  Partial Exam: The Partial Exams will evaluate all the current Partial’scontent. It will consist of a theory part (multiple choice questions), a practical part (with exercises similar to the examples seen in class and activities) and an application part (with questions similar to the ones on the Projects). All Partial exams are done by hand, and last the entirety of the class (50 minutes).  Final Exam: The final examwillconsistof twoparts:the firstone will evaluatetheoryseenduring the semester (with multiple choice questions), the second part consists of practical exercises (applicationproblems), bothwillbe doneontheassigneddaybygroup, accordingtothe approved Final exams’ schedule, and will last 80 minutes.
