2. We’re all no stranger to smart technology and materials
weaving their way into clothing these days, GPS devices,
headphones, batteries are just to name a few. However, this
genius collaboration between design and technology might
excite you slightly more.
Collaboration between fashionable men’s clothing brand Lyle &
Scott and the bank Barclays has seen contactless payment
reaching a whole new level of convenience for its user. The
swipe of a card has now been replaced with the swipe of a
sleeve.
What’s this all about?
3. Budding Partnership
The cuff of the jackets contains the same chip found in contactless
cards made by Barclay’s system bPay and allows users to use this
“digital wallet” for anything costing £30 or under at over 300,000
locations across the UK.
Although this budding partnership may be deemed as somewhat
surprising, it is highly probable the concept will become the next
prodigy within the fashion market. This invention makes contactless
payments even more stylish and is the next alternative and affordable
gismo after the desirable apple watch.
4. Contactless Pay
For those who don’t appreciate the style of Lyle and Scott or the idea
of only being able to use it when wearing the garment, bPay are also
cashing in on a transferable sticker option suitable for objects such as
phones and key fobs. This concept being more affordable than the
£150 jacket may reap higher rates of success.
5. Handycase
This new case for Apple iPad and iPhone, effectively makes your
device see through and controllable from behind.
The case will allow users the capability to tap and swipe their mobile
device from the rear via an attached case by magically seeing their
hands through the screen.
“The Handycase was developed as a useful, ergonomic tool to access
multiple touch points on a mobile device from the back panel. The
smart case allows for one or two handed interaction with games, maps
and other next generation applications,” explains one of the creators of
the device.
The case comes in various sizes to support iPad, iPhone and some
Android devices that can connect via Bluetooth LE.
6. Product Launch
The product launch followed soon after the UK announced the
contactless payment limit has been raised from £20 to £30. In the Lyle
and Scott coat, all it takes is for the lift of a cuff for this to be
activated. Although there are still critics claiming that contactless is
still an insecure way to pay, the promotional buzz and novelty value in
conjunction with the fashionable styling of jacket will not stop the tech-
savvy users from trying this new innovation.
