Editor's Notes
According to a report by Civic Enterprises, high school graduation rates are above 80% across the United States. This seems like good news on paper, but…
Well, the reality is that research shows that, despite rising graduation rates, students are unprepared upon entering college and, ultimately, the workforce as well.
In what ways are students unprepared?
The National Assessment of Educational Progress analyzed results of 28,100 12th graders in 2011. Students had to persuade, explain or convey experiences to audiences.
Only 27% of of H.S. seniors above the proficient level, and 3% of Ss performed at the Advanced level.
Recent studies also show that 80% of students struggle with identifying and defining what is expected of their writing, and understanding where to start their research, two essential components rooted in the core of effective writing.

Most growth in U.S. will be in industries that require the vast majority of its employees (>80%) are responsible for writing, such as finance, insurance, and real estate. (College Board report) They also consider these qualities during the hiring process.
Cut this? Talk to Caity about it. We can discuss how there is a domino effect of “repercussions on the economy” as a result of this unpreparedness.

Students’ future learning is based on a comprehensive foundation of early literacy—studies show that preschool and early childhood education lay the ground for a student’s future, and integrating research and writing skills from the elementary years is a key component to a student’s future success.
In fact, one study that surveyed secondary teachers on how daily challenges their students face can be remedied in the future, 64% of them said that “better basic skills instruction in elementary school” would be the biggest factor to improve student success at the high school level.
39% also said that “Mandatory inclusion of critical thinking questions on all assessments” would be necessary.

ResearchReady provides teachers with a foundational curriculum that teaches skills that are expected and required of college professors, employers, and state and national standards.
We spoke before about how teaching these critical skills from an early age is imperative for lifelong learning and academic success. ResearchRead offers curricula that covers fundamental research and writing skills from as young as elementary students through high school and even college.
We have heard a lot from teachers and curriculum directors that building out a curriculum from the ground up is time-consuming and difficult. With so many other responsibilities and projects to do, we understand that it is not always a realistic or feasible option for educators. With ResearchReady, we provide you with a curriculum that best fits your students’ needs, within a flexible and fully customizable platform. Instead of starting at Square One, you already have content and assessments to work with that have been vetted and approved by educators in the K-12 and academic space.
We wanted to ensure that our curricula and assessments were making a difference for students and teachers alike. Last year we conducted a case study and found that, on average, teachers using ResearchReady saw a 30% improvement of student research skills when comparing the pre-assessment with the post-assessment.
EasyBib is our intuitive application that allows students to apply the research and writing skills they learn in ResearchReady to real life.
With more than half of college presidents reporting an increase in plagiarism over the past decade, ensuring that students are ethical writers is essential for college readiness. EasyBib provides the necessary tools teachers need to encourage plagiarism prevention from an early age.
With the vast majority of students (80%) experiencing difficulty determining their tasks and expectations, EasyBib provides a digital notebook that enables students to organize their thoughts and ideas, as well as keep track of supporting evidence and direct quotes from informational texts.
