4. Editing
Editing, like the other
aspects of film language,
creates the feeling of
tension to mislead the
audience into thinking
there’s some kind of
danger or that one of
the characters is up to
something. The shots
after the supposed
‘murder’ were sharp and
quick to stimulate
tension in the audience,
planting the idea that
the man was in a hurry
to get away or to hide
the body.
5. Sound
Most sounds in this production were sharp,
jolting sounds. This, along with the tense,
atmospheric music, led the audience to believe
that this short was a thriller, and that something
bad had happened between these two
characters. As mentioned before, the constant
screeching of the crow as a connotation of death
and the ringing of the telephone in the silence to
represent isolation all feed the initial idea that
the audience had obtained at the beginning of
the movie that it was a thriller/ horror movie.
