The US military confirmed
on Sunday that it targeted
an “explosive laden vehicle”
headed towards Kabul’s inter-
national airport where the
American military is involved
in an evacuation operation.
“US military forces
conducted a self-defence
unmanned over-the-horizon
air strike today on a vehicle in
Kabul, eliminating an immi-
nent ISIS-K threat to Hamid
Karzai International airport,”
said Captain Bill Urban,
spokesman of the US Central
Command.
“We are confident we suc-
cessfully hit the target.
Significant secondary explo-
sions from the vehicle indi-
cated the presence of a sub-
stantial amount of explosive
material,” Urban said. The
US is assessing the possibili-
ties of civilian casualties,
though it has no indications
at this time. “We remain vig-
ilant for potential future
threats,” Urban said in a state-
ment. Earlier, the Taliban’s
official spokesman Zabihullah
Mujahid said in a message to
journalists in Afghanistan
that the US strike targeted a
suicide bomber in a vehicle
who wanted to attack the
Kabul international airport
amid the American military’s
evacuation there. However,
Mujahid offered few other
details about the incident, as
well as about another rocket
that struck a neighbourhood
just northwest of the airport,
killing a child. The two strikes
initially appeared to be sepa-
rate incidents, though infor-
mation on both remained
scarce. US President Joe
Biden has vowed to keep up
air strikes against the Islamic
State extremist group whose
suicide bombing at the Kabul
airport killed scores of
Afghans and 13 American
service members. “Our
commanders informed me
that an attack is highly likely
in the next 24-36 hours,”
Biden said, adding that he has
instructed them to take all
possible measures to protect
their troops, who are securing
the airport.

The national unemployment
rate rose to 8. 1 per cent in
the week ended August 28 as
against 6.95 per cent in July.
This is despite the fact that
most of the States and Union
territories have fully reopened
their economy after a decline in
the ferocity of the second
Covid-19 wave.
Rural unemployment took
a sharp upward turn to 7.3 per
cent from 6.34 per cent and
urban joblessness rose to 9.7
per cent from 8.30 per cent
during the same period.
Experts and economists have
been arguing that decent jobs
are still missing, and their
return will depend on the
revival in the economy, growth
in consumption, and the pan-
demic situation.
The Centre for Monitoring
Indian Economy (CMIE) data
showed the unemployment
remained between 7.16 per
cent and 8.07 per cent at the
national level from August 5 to
August 28. Urban unemploy-
ment was registered between
8.38 per cent and 9.71 per cent
while rural unemployment
remained between 6.53 per
cent and 7.31 per cent during
the same period. According to
CMIE, the unemployment per-
centage in Haryana was 28.1,
the highest in the country fol-
lowed by 21 per cent each in
Goa and Rajasthan.
According to experts, even
so, unemployment, mainly due
to the effects of restrictions
imposed due to the pandemic,
remains high.
But as most of the sectors
have started resuming func-
tioning gradually, the percent-
age of unemployment in India
is still high.
Since the beginning of July,
unemployment in urban India
has stayed below 9 per cent,
and at the national level, it has
remained under 8 per cent. The
unemployment scenario in July
is relatively better than the
previous three months when
India battled the second wave
of the coronavirus pandemic.
The progress of monsoon and
the reopening of economic
activity across formal and
informal sectors have con-
tributed to a comparatively
better situation in July.
In June, the monthly
unemployment rate was 9.17
per cent at the national level,
10.07 per cent in urban India,
and 8.75 per cent in rural
India.

Aday after Karnal Sub-
Divisional Magistrate
Ayush Sinha, a 2018 batch IAS
officer, was caught on camera
instructing policemen to “crack
the heads” of farmers at a
protest, Haryana Deputy Chief
Minister Dushyant Chautala on
Sunday assured strict action
against the officer.
“The use of such termi-
nology by an officer is con-
demnable and action will def-
initely be taken in this regard.
Maintaining law and order is
the job of the Government and
the administration. The behav-
iour of the SDM is contrary to
the training of an IAS officer,”
said Chautala while talking to
mediapersons here.
The statement came amid
the Opposition’s mounting
attack against the BJP-JJP led
Haryana Government after the
brutal lathi-charge on farmers
in Karnal on Saturday.
Reacting to the justification
given by the SDM over the lan-
guage used in the video,
Dushyant, who is the JJP’s
senior leader, said: “The expla-
nation for the lathi-charge is
that the officer did not sleep for
two days. He should know
that the farmer is unable to
sleep 200 nights in 365 days of
the year.”

Facing flak from Opposition
parties for excluding
Jawaharlal Nehru’s image from
a poster celebrating the 75th
year of independence, the
Indian Council of Historical
Research (ICHR) said the con-
troversy over the issue is
“unnecessary” as other posters
being released in the coming
days will feature the first Prime
Minister.
“We are not trying to
undermine anyone’s role in
the movement,” a top ICHR
official said, dismissing criti-
cism on the issue, and added
the poster was one of the many
released as part of the Azadi ka
Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
The Congress, however,
questioned the silence of Prime
Minister Narendra Modi on the
issue and demanded that he
rise above his prejudices and
intervene. Opposition parties
had said the omission was
deliberate.
ICHR, an autonomous
body under the Ministry of
Education, has been running a
series of lectures and seminars
on the theme of the
Independence struggle under
the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’
celebration.
“This is only one of the
posters released as part of the
Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav cel-
ebrations. There will be sever-
al others and Nehru will be fea-
tured in them... Controversy
around this is unnecessary,” the
ICHR official said.

In a significant development,
the United Nations Security
Council (UNSC), chaired by
India, has dropped a reference
to the Taliban from an earlier
paragraph in its statement
that asked Afghan groups not
to support terrorists “operat-
ing on the territory of any
o t h e r
country”.
India, which is the presi-
dent of the Security Council
for this month, signed off on
the statement and issued it in
its capacity as the chair for this
month.
On August 16, a day after
the Taliban came to power in
the country, the UNSC said,
“The members of the Security
Council reaffirmed the impor-
tance of combating terrorism
in Afghanistan to ensure the
territory of Afghanistan
should not be used to threat-
en or attack any country, and
that neither the Taliban nor
any other Afghan group or
individuals should support
terrorists operating on the
territory of any other country.”
But on August 27, the
UNSC removed reference to
Taliban in the previous
statement.

The rapidly changing situa-
tion in Afghanistan after
the Taliban take over is a
“challenge” for India and the
Government has been forced
to rethink its strategy, Defence
Minister Rajnath Singh said on
Sunday.
Reflecting these concerns,
senior commanders, including
the Chief of Defence Staff
(CDS) General Bipin Rawat
and the three Services chiefs,
are likely to review the situa-
tion coming week.
Apprehensions are that the
Taliban fighters aided and
abetted by Pakistan and
equipped with the seized US
weapons may foment trouble
in Jammu Kashmir.
In a related development,
External Affairs Minister S
Jaishankar on Saturday spoke
to US Secretary of State
Antony Blinken and discussed
the latest developments in
Afghanistan.
“Spoke to US Secretary of
State Blinken. Continued our
discussions on Afghanistan.
Also exchanged views on the
agenda of United Nations
Security Council (UNSC),”
Jaishankar tweeted.
Expressing the concerns of
the security establishment to
the defence top brass, Rajnath
said the changing equation in
Afghanistan is a challenge.
The country is now rethinking
its strategy, he said while
addressing the prestigious
Defence Services Staff College,
Wellington.
He also said the recent
developments resulted in India
forging alliance with the coun-
tries forming the Quad. It
comprises the US, India, Japan
and Australia.

Moving ahead of all politi-
cal parties in announcing
the candidates for 2022 state
assembly polls, the Shiromani
Akali Dal (SAD) on Sunday
declared the names of three
more candidates. Its ally,
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), has
also declared the candidature of
its state unit president Jasvir
Singh Garhi from Phagwara
(reserved) assembly con-
stituency.
At the time when the rul-
ing Congress is embroiled in
severe infighting, and the Aam
Aadmi Party (AAP) is in the
hunt for its chief ministerial
face, the SAD and BSP are step
ahead in preparing for the
crucial 2022 polls, slated to be
held in about next six months.
As of now, Akali Dal,
which has already announced
to contest next state assembly
polls in alliance with BSP after
breaking off its ties from the
saffron party, has already
announced more than a dozen
candidates.
Sukhbir Badal, who was in
Bathinda as a part of SAD’s
mass outreach programme,
announced the candidature of
former Minister Sikander Singh
Maluka from Rampura Phul,
Parkash Singh Bhatti from
Bathinda Rural, and Darshan
Singh Kotfatta from Bucho.
However, Maluka refused to
contest from Rampura Phul
constituency after his name
figured in the list of three can-
didates, while maintaining that
the ticket should be given to his
son — Gurpreet Singh Maluka.
He expressed interest in con-
testing polls from Maur.
Maluka, after his candida-
ture for Rampura Phul seat was
announced, said that his son
Gurpreet Singh Maluka has
been working in this con-
stituency for the last one year
and the ticket should be given
to his son.
He maintained that the
party did not consult him
before announcing his name
for the Rampura Phul seat. At
the same time, Maluka said that
he should be fielded from
Maur seat.
Meanwhile, BSP declared
its state unit chief Garhi as the
candidate from Phagwara
(reserved) assembly seat for the
2022 state polls, during its
massive Alakh Jagao rally
organised by BSP’s national
coordinator Akash Anand, who
is also the nephew of party
supremo Mayawati.
As per the seat-sharing
arrangement between the SAD
and BSP, the Mayawati-led BSP
will fight 20 of the 117 assem-
bly seats, while the rest will be
contested by the Akali Dal.
SAD chief Sukhbir Singh
Badal, several Akali MLAs and
leaders, and BSP’s senior lead-
ership, including party’s
national vice-president Anand
Kumar, were present on the
occasion.
Addressing the SAD-BSP
rally, Sukhbir said that a
“toofan” (storm) had begun
blowing against the Congress
government in Punjab.
“SAD-BSP alliance has
unnervedtheCongress,BJPand
AAP...The next government will
be of the SAD-BSP combine,”
said Sukhbir. He also talked
about SAD’s 13-point pro-
gramme wherein it made poll
promises, including free power
up to 400 units per month for
all households, slashing diesel
price by Rs 10 a litre for agri-
culture sector and reserving 75
per cent for Punjabi youths in
private sector. Claiming that the
SAD-BSP alliance will last for
25-40 years or more, he said that
Akali Dal snapped ties with the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
because it “stabbed” Punjabis
and farmers in their back.
He also cautioned voters
against “frauds” of Aam Aadmi
Party’s (AAP) national con-
vener Arvind Kejriwal and
also attacked Punjab Chief
Minister Capt Amarinder
Singh.
Meanwhile, all leaders pre-
sent at the rally flayed the use
of ‘force’ by the Haryana police
against farmers in Karnal on
Saturday.
They also delayed their
arrival at the rally venue,
respecting the two-hour block-
ade called by Punjab farmers to
protest the lathicharge against
Haryana farmers.

Amid the controversy over
the amendment made by
Haryana Government in land
acquisition Act 2013, Deputy
Chief Minister Dushyant
Chautala on Sunday said that
the opposition is misleading
people regarding the amend-
ed bill.
“Nine months ago, the
same opposition leaders were
spreading confusion among
the people regarding three
laws related to agriculture
made by the Central
Government. The amended
land acquisition bill will
ensure smooth commence-
ment and completion of linear
development, and emergency
projects in the state,”
Dushyant said while talking to
the mediapersons
here.
Haryana Assembly had
last week passed The Right to
Fair Compensation and
Transparency in Land
Acquisition, Rehabilitation
and Resettlement (Haryana
Amendment) Bill, 2021. The
Congress had staged a walk-
out in protest of the passage of
the Bill and announced to
meet the Governor against it.
The Deputy Chief
Minister said that under the
Act related to land acquisition,
land has been acquired con-
tinuously for various projects
in the past, due to this, the
matter was delayed in some
courts and there was a need to
make the present amendment.
With the amendment of the
bill, it will be easier to com-
plete projects like water hous-
es, grain markets, bridges,
schools etc. in the state soon,
he said.
He said that the State
Government is taking up var-
ious projects on e-Bhoomi by
taking land with the consent
of the people. Since January
2021 till now, many farmers
have given about 845 acres of
land with their consent on the
e-bhoomi portal for 49 pro-
jects, for which the
Government has paid about
Rs 360 crore to the farmers, he
added.
The Deputy Chief
Minister further informed
that farmers have allotted 140
acres for AIIMS Rewari, 52
acres for Karnal airstrip, 46.9
acres for new watershed in
Jind, 20 acres for sewerage
treatment plant in Chautala
village and new grain market
on new national highway in
Sirsa. Farmers have also given
consent on the e-bhoomi por-
tal for 56 acres, 40 acres of
land for the bridge and road
connecting Faridabad-Noida
on Yamuna river in Faridabad
district, he said.
Govt assures all possible
help to Afghan students
Replying to a question on
the volatile situation prevail-
ing in Afghanistan, Dushyant
said the students from
Afghanistan will not face any
problem related to studies,
food or accommodation in
Haryana.
Necessary instructions in
this regard have also been
conveyed to vice-chancellors
of universities. Till the time
the situation normalises in
Afghanistan, full cooperation
will be extended to the stu-
dents in terms of relaxations
in fees and admission to
courses, he said.
“Out of the 31 students
from Afghanistan enrolled in
Kurukshetra University, 11
live on campus and of the 11
enrolled in MDU University,
Rohtak, four live on campus,”
he informed.
“They are not just foreign
students but guests of our
country. If any student faces
any problem, we are here to
help them,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dushyant
announced that Bhavina Patel,
who won a silver medal in the
women's singles class 4 cate-
gory of Table Tennis at the
Tokyo Paralympic Games,
would be given an amount of
Rs 31 lakh from the Table
Tennis Federation of
India.
Dushyant is the President
of Table Tennis Federation of
India.

Leaders and volunteers of the
Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP)
women wing in Punjab on
Sunday faced water cannon
while protesting against the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for
using abusive language and
attacking women and farmers
in Punjab and the entire coun-
try. Many women workers were
later detained by the police.
The women volunteers
raised slogans against Prime
Minister Narendra Modi,
Union Home Minister Amit
Shah, Haryana Chief Minister
Manohar Lal Khattar and the
BJP, while the Chandigarh
police used batons and water
cannons to stop the protesters
from going to enter the Punjab
BJP office in Sector 37.
AAP's women wing state
president Rajwinder Kaur
Thiara and youth leader Anmol
Gagan Mann sustained serious
injuries and had to be admit-
ted to hospital.
Mann said that due to the
Narendra Modi-led Central
Government, the BJP workers
have turned into goons. “These
BJP goons are abusing and
physically assaulting women in
Punjab and across the country.
The State Governments are
avoiding taking action against
these goons,” she added.
Thiara said that in the
arrogance of power, the BJP’s
goons have forgotten the coun-
try's values. “Even the police of
the ruling party are assuming
the atrocities on women and
the farmers as their achieve-
ments,” she added.
She alleged that the police
responsible for protecting the
citizens of the country are sup-
porting the goons and the state
and central women's commis-
sions are keeping silent on
women's issues.
The Chandigarh police
tried to stop the women vol-
unteers on their way to the BJP
office, but they broke through
all the barriers and moved on.
The Police used water cannons
and cane-charged them; leav-
ing many women injured,
alleged Mann while adding
that the police even kicked
them in their stomach.

Strongly condemning the
indiscriminate caning of the
farmers in Haryana and Punjab
who were forced to protest
againsttheanti-agricultureblack
laws, the Aam Aadmi Party’s
(AAP) Punjab unit on Sunday
said that the spirit of dictator
HitlerhadenteredtherulingBJP
and the Congress that was why
these governments want to sup-
press the voice of the ‘annadatas’
under a repressive policy.
AAP also declared coop-
eration and support at all lev-
els to the ‘Bharat Bandh’ call on
September 25 against the Modi
Government's stubborn stance
on black farm laws. AAP’s
Kisan Wing state president
and MLA Kultar Singh
Sandhwan directly blamed the
Prime Minister Narendra Modi
and Haryana Chief Minister
Manohar Lal Khattar for the
indiscriminate violence against
farmers in Haryana. “The BJP
will have to pay the price for
such a repressive policy of the
government across the coun-
try,” he said.
Sandhwan said that the
voice of ‘annadatas’ and any cit-
izen of the country for their
rights and interests could not
be suppressed with canes, as the
Constitution of India gives
them the right to protest and
raise their voice within the con-
stitutional ambit for their
rights; the Constitution, whose
oath, the Prime Minister and
the Chief Minister had taken
before assuming their charge.
“Therefore, the use of
batons by the Prime Minister
and the Chief Minister of
Haryana along with the Chief
Minister of Punjab, against the
protesters is a direct violation
of the Constitution,” he added.
Lashing out at the Punjab
Chief Minister Capt Amarinder
Singh, Sandhwan said that on
one hand, the Congressmen
were condemning the caning of
the farmers by the Khattar
Government and on the other
hand, were cane-charging the
farmers in Punjab.
Condemning the cane-charge
in Amritsar, Sandhwan asked
Capt Amarinder and the entire
Congress what was the differ-
ence between the BJP and the
Congress for suppressing the
voice of the people with batons.
Taking a dig at the ruling
Congressmen, Sandhwan said
that not a day goes by in
Punjab without the Punjab
Government harassing, abus-
ing, and caning unemployed,
doctors, nurses, teachers,

ers along with other protesters.

Haryana Government's
Excise and Taxation
Department has recorded an
increase in revenue by 65 per-
cent this year as compared to
previous financial year.
Deputy Chief Minister
Dushyant Chautala, who also
holds the portfolio of Excise
and Taxation Department, on
Sunday said that during this
excise year 2021-22 till August
26, 2021 from all four types of
tax (VAT, CST, GST and Excise)
of the department, a revenue of
Rs 20,558 crore has been col-
lected, whereas in the same
period last year, Rs 12,831
crore was received by the
Government.
There has been an increase
of 65 percent in the said peri-
od as compared to last year, he
said. Giving information about
the total revenue collected from
VAT, CST, GST and Excise
during the last 3 years, he said
that Rs 37,350 crore in the year
2018-19, Rs 39,837 crore in the
year 2019-20 and Rs 45,119
crore in the year 2020-21 had
been collected as revenue. The
Deputy Chief Minister further
informed that for the year
2020-21, the liquor contracts of
the Excise Department were
auctioned for Rs 3,559 crore
while the reserve price was Rs
3,128 crore.
He said that for the excise
year 2021-22, those who
already had licenses were given
the option to take contracts
with an increase of 10 percent
and thus 85 percent of the con-
tracts were renewed.

Ranchi police have devel-
oped an application that
will not only provide them
access to profiles of all offend-
ers in the district but also help
them keep an eye on such
criminals who are either out
on bail or have served their
imprisonment term — a facil-
ity, which according to police,
will help in averting crimes by
identifying potential threats in
advance.
“Profiles of each and every
offender, including details of
their current whereabouts,
will be accessible through this
app,” said Ranchi
Superintendent of Police
Saurav.
The use of this application
will also help the police do
away with the tedious practice
of maintaining records in
handwritten files, which are
prone to damage and wear
and tear. Once all the records
are digitized, the cops will be
able to access details about
criminals on their mobile
devices or computers without
having to look for files manu-
ally in police stations, police
said.
The Interoperable
Criminal Justice System (ICJS)
of the Ministry of Home
Affairs also maintains records
of criminals who have served
jail terms. However, this new
app of the Ranchi Police will
also ease the process of main-
taining vigilance on people
with criminal records, police
said.
Cops, Saurav said, will
pay regular visits to the peo-
ple with criminal records,
especially those who are like-
ly to go down the path of
crime again. This practice, he
added, will keep the police
updated about the role of
habitual offenders and people
with criminal records in plan-
ning and perpetrating crimes.
This application, which is
yet to be named, was designed
over a period of several
months by IT experts from the
Data Centre of Ranchi police.
It was undergoing updates
and was likely to be opera-
tional soon, police said.
This app shares some of its
features from a software devel-
oped by the Criminal
Investigation Department
(CID) of Jharkhand police. IT
experts of Ranchi police have
added new features and
updates to make the app more
user-friendly and accessible
from different devices, police
said.
Trends studied by the
police have highlighted that
criminals who have served
jail terms are often arrested for
perpetrating different crimes
within a couple of years since
their release. While some of
them may succeed in eking out
a living without breaking the
law again, most of them
end up choosing illegal means
of making a living, a police
official said.

Panda Dharmarakshini
Sabha, General Secretary,
Kartik Nath Thakur, on Sunday
warned the State Government
that if the Government does
not announce the opening of
Baba Baidyanath temple, then
the priests and other stake-
holders will call for a Deoghar
bandh on Monday.
Thakur said people from
all organisations will partici-
pate in the Bandh. He said that
even after the one-day Bandh,
if the Government does not lis-
ten to their voice, then a
phased agitation will be
launched. He was holding a
meeting with shopkeepers’
union and various organisa-
tions at Kesarwani Ashram
on Sunday.
The Organisation’s General
Secretary said that there has
been a decrease in the cases of
Corona infection in the State.
“In such a situation, the
Government should open all
the temples of the State. Due to
the pandemic the temple is
completely closed for the gen-
eral devotees for the last two
years. Due to this the shop-
keepers, priests, gardeners and
others who depend on the
temple have reached the verge
of starvation. The site has
been opened for people of dif-
ferent religions including bus
operations, rail operations,
theaters, goods at various
places of pilgrimage in the
Country,” he added. The
world’s famous Baba
Baidyanath temple is still
closed for the general devotees.
There is a demand of the
Organisation that Baba
Mandir should be opened
because the livelihood of thou-
sands of people depends on
this temple and devotees also
have great faith. Thakur said
that if the Government does
not announce the opening of
the temple by Sunday night,
then on Monday, Deoghar will
remain closed. He said that the
Government and administra-
tion will be urged to open the
Baba Mandir for the local peo-
ple on the occasion of
Janmashtami. Going back from
his old stand, he said that if the
Government does not open the
temple, then he will not force-
fully enter it.
Preparations are being
made to make the Deoghar
Bandh called on Monday a
success. Panda
Dharmarakshini Sabha held a
meeting with the priestly soci-
ety on Sunday. At the same
time, talks are being held
with various business orga-
nizations as well. On
Saturday, a meeting was held
with business organizations
regarding this. At the same
time, earlier a meeting of
business organizations was
also held with the adminis-
tration. During this, mem-
bers of business organiza-
tions had demanded from
the administration to open
the temple immediately.

A13-year-old girl was
allegedly gang-raped twice
by seven men on August 26
under Mandar police station
area about 45 km from the state
headquarter, police said on
Sunday. The shocking thing is
that the victim was gang raped
by her friend, a munhbola
brother and their friends.
The FIR was lodged on
Friday after the victim
informed her family about this
heinous crime. Among accused
four are minors out of whom
one is said to be the friend of
the victim.
Ranchi SP (Rural),
Naushad Alam informed that
on the basis of the statement of
the victim an FIR was lodged
under sections of IPC and
POCSO Act. Besides, the med-
ical test was also conducted
upon the victim. Meanwhile,
police have apprehended all
four minor accused. Police
said that the age determination
test will also be conducted
upon arrested accused to
ascertain their age. Raids
are going to arrest the
remaining three accused.
The initial investigation
revealed that one of the
minor accused, who was
friends with the victim,
asked her to come to a spe-
cific location. The boy was
waiting about half km away
from her residence. When
the victim came here, she
found two other boys
accompanying her friend.
They forcefully took her to
the forest where they
snatched her mobile and
raped one by one. She
unsuccessfully tried to run
away from their clutches.
After two hours, they
returned her mobile phone
after which the victim called
her munhbola brother.
What she explained to
the police was more shock-
ing. That munh bola broth-
er of the victim picked her
from the forest and took her
to his home for safety. But
here she was raped by her
munh bola brother and his
three friends the whole
night. In the morning she
somehow managed to reach
her home.
According to police the
victim, who is a student of
class seventh came in touch
with that minor during the
marriage ceremony of her
mausi held in March. They
exchanged their contact
number and began to talk.
She said that he was insist-
ing to meet her hence when
he called her she agreed to
meet unaware of his bad
intention.

The Central Board of
Secondary Education
(CBSE) recently announced
major changes in board exam-
ination 2022. Instead of one
board exam at the end of the
year, the academic session has
been bifurcated into two
terms with the board con-
ducting Class 10 and 12 board
exams at the end of each
semester.
Along with the two board
exams, the exam pattern has
also been changed. The exams
will now be two-hour-long
and contain multiple-choice
questions (MCQs). Several
states are of the opinion of
changing examination pat-
terns on the lines of CBSE.
The Jharkhand Academic
Council (JAC) is also think-
ing of changing examination
patterns on the lines of CBSE.
The examination pattern will
be changed in matriculation
and intermediate examina-
tion.
The Department of School
Education and Literacy has
started its preparation. A pro-
posal has been prepared in this
regard. A final decision on the
proposal is likely to be taken
in a day or two. A senior offi-
cial at the education depart-
ment requesting anonymity
said, “Due to Covid 19 pan-
demic, the examination in
matriculation and intermedi-
ate in the state can also be
taken in two phases on the
lines of CBSE. Preparation for
the first phase exam is going
to take place in December
while the second phase exam
will be held in March.”
The official further said
that in an emergency situation
arising due to the third phase
of pandemic and in such a sit-
uation if both the examina-
tions could not be held due to
Covid 19, then the result can
be issued on the basis of one
examination. The option of
both online and offline exam-
ination is being considered. If
both the exams are conducted
in online and offline mode
then the importance of both
will be the same. On the other
hand, if one exam is conduct-
ed online and the other offline
mode, then the marks of the
offline exam will give more
weight-age.
The JAC is making a
change in examination pat-
tern as this year the matricu-
lation and intermediate exam-
ination of the year 2021 was
not held. The result of both
the exams was prepared on
the basis of the marks of
class 9th and 11th of the year
2020. Apart from this JAC is
also contemplating on cutting
the syllabus of Class 9th to
12th. Syllabus can be cut up
to 25%. The examination of
the year 2022 will be taken on
the basis of 75% syllabus
only.

The State Health depart-
ment reported only 16 new
cases of the novel Coronavirus
(Covid-19) while seven patients
were reported recovered from
the disease in Uttarakhand on
Sunday. No death from the dis-
ease was reported in the State
on the day.
The cumulative count of
Covid-19 patients in the state
is now at 3,42,920 while a total
of 3,29,143 patients have recov-
ered from the disease so far. In
the state, 7380 people have lost
their lives to Covid -19 till date.
The recovery percentage from
the disease is at 95.99 while the
sample positivity rate on
Sunday was 0.10 per cent.
The state health depart-
ment reported seven new
patients of Covid -19 from
Nainital, three from three
from Dehradun, two each
from Pithoragarh and Udham
Singh Nagar and one each
from Almora and Rudraprayag
on Sunday. No new cases were
reported from remaining seven
dietricts on the day.
The State now has 335
active cases of Covid-19.
Dehradun with 123 cases is at
the top of the table of active

Though the number of new
cases of Covid 19 cases in
Uttarakhand have reduced sub-
stantially, a big drop in the
number of tests for the disease
remains a cause for concern.
The data shows that in the
week ending July 28, only
1,06756 samples were tested for
Covid. The tests have shown a
big drop in last few weeks. In
the week corresponding to July
25 to 31, a total of 1,83,310 tests
were carried out which have
now reduced to only 1,06,756.
It is worth mentioning here that
the state government has given
a target of 40,000 tests a day to
the health department which
means it should do at least
2,80000 tests in a week. At
about 1 lakh tests a week, the
department is doing 60 per cent
less tests in a week.

Unlike in the past two years,
Dehradun mayor Sunil
Uniyal 'Gama' has decided to
restrict the period of 20 per
cent rebate on property tax till
September 30 and stated that it
will not be extended further
this year. Besides this, the
Municipal Corporation of
Dehradun (MCD) will soon
start setting up camps in the
wards to maximise the recov-
ery of the property tax. The
corporation generally provides
a rebate of 20 per cent in prop-
erty tax submission till January
but this year, the mayor has
limited this period till
September end.
According to him, most of
the taxpayers wait till the last
month of the financial year to
deposit the property tax and
the collection remains quite less
throughout the year despite the
rebate facility. The last minute
rush for tax submission by the
public also increases the load
on the tax section at that time
because many still prefer offline
tax submission. Considering
this, 'Gama' said that the rebate
for this financial year will be
provided till September 30 and
MCD has no plans to extend it.
Though the corporation had
set the target of collecting Rs 50
crore as property tax in each of
the last two financial years, the
MCD could collect only about
Rs 45 crores and Rs 36 crores
respectively.
As per the officials, Covid-
19 has adversely affected the tax
collection of MCD. This year
too, the corporation has
received property tax of about
Rs four crores only. Since the
revenue generated from tax col-
lection is the main source of
income for MCD, 'Gama' has
directed the officials of the tax
section to take steps to max-
imise its recovery.
He has ordered them to set
up camps at ward levels to
make the tax submission
process easy for senior citizens
and locals of remote areas. He
has also asked the tax section
to reserve the timing from 3
PM to 5 PM on weekdays for
the councillors who bring tax
slips of their ward members for
tax submission.
Besides this, the mayor
has also directed the tax super-
intendents to send the proper-
ty tax bills to those who have
not deposited the tax last year.
“The proper tax collection is
important for the corporation
to carry out necessary devel-
opment projects in the city. I
have directed the tax section to
work efficiently to maximise
the recovery of tax from resi-
dential as well as non-residen-
tial property owners in
Dehradun,” stated the mayor.

As the pandemic situation
currently finds itself on an
“easy-go” mode, people stand
divided. The urge to move
around freely still tends to
overpower the trauma of the
previous and deadly wave,
keeps us pulling in. This push
and pull dynamic is keeping
most of the population in
limbo even though many
restrictions have been lifted,
including the crucial decision
of reopening of schools in the
state. Parents are utterly con-
fused as they are stuck in the
push and pull dynamic; the
counsel of sending your child
to school in order to encourage
a sense of normalcy in the fam-
ily dynamic as opposed to
risking an infection of the
virus. Just the simple act of
your child- waking up to an
alarm for school- may prove to
be very helpful to bring back
the simple rhythm of the body,
which plays an important role
in regulating our nervous sys-
tem.
The mistrust that the
parental bodies are giving into
and keeping their children at
home, while schools make an
effort to open their classrooms,
may prove to be detrimental to
their very critical develop-
mental phases. To the parents
who feel their child is vulner-
able to the current scenario, it
is vital that you take stock of
your child’s holistic growth.
This spectrum includes your
child’s eating habits, emotion-
al health, willingness to make
friends and enthusiasm to
innovate and indulge in cre-
ativity. The lockdown periods
could have provided parents
with insights into their par-
enting methods, identifying
and correcting fault lines in
order to create a climate of
authenticity and safety. The
question that now arises is
that have the parents used the
rest in periods to do a rain
check on their methods of
child rearing or has the atmos-
phere between them and their
children deteriorated?
My expression, by no
means is to belittle hard work-
ing parents but to initiate the
parent into the self parenting
process that may help in
decreasing the ever increasing
gap between children and their
caretakers and help the ado-
lescent authenticate into a
young adult. For all those who
are wondering why this piece
started with reopening of
schools, the hesitation associ-
ated with it and now is leading
into parenting styles, is because
it is difficult for a healthy fruit
bearing tree to function
autonomously; it needs the
change in seasons, soil prop-
erties, appropriate shade and
shine, to ready a ripe and edi-
ble fruit. Just like the tree a par-
ent needs to be deep rooted for
stability, have a flexible thought
process, sway with the current
times but not be uprooted
emotionally by the pressures of
the fast moving world.
For parents to work on
themselves, I suggest to get
involved in the process of heal-
ing through self awareness, try
to identify your own parenting
style. Are you an overly fussy
parent, do you give in to
aggression easily, have you
continued a certain hobby
despite being a full time parent
or are you obsessively con-
cerned about your appearance
, can be some helpful markers
to start your own inner work.
I am confident that these
simple markers and creating
easy, organic questionnaires
for yourself will give you a peek
into your own structure and
lead to a better understanding
of your own family. With a
surge in cases of panic, anxiety,
ADHD and trauma in children,
we psychotherapists are also
sometimes at a loss for words
and techniques, and look to the
parents for co creating a ther-
apeutic environment for the
troubled child.
With a self aware and an
open parent in the picture
from the start it would give us
a quantum leap into giving us
a better understanding of child
behaviour but add to innovat-
ing better treatment methods,
to bring relief.

based psychotherapist trained at
the University of Vienna)

Lack of proper education
and awareness among peo-
ple about organ donation along
with the associated supersti-
tions and spiritual beliefs are
among the major causes for the
low number of organ donors in
Uttarakhand. According to
medical experts, organ dona-
tion can save several lives every
year but due to the imbalance
in demand and supply of
organs, many lose their lives.
Many remain reluctant to reg-
ister for organ donation after
their death due to various rea-
sons but superstition is the
prominent cause influencing
most of the potential organ
donors in the state.
I would like to donate my
organs after my death but I
believe in rebirth and I do not
want to be born without the
donated organs in my next life,
said 50 year old Haridwar res-
ident Kasturi Rawat. There is
also a section of people which
is interested in being an organ
donor but doubts whether their
donated organs will be provid-
ed to those in need. I have no
qualms in saying that I do not
have full faith in our health sys-
tem and authorities. What is
the guarantee that my donated
organs will be provided to
someone in need and will not
be sold at higher profits to rich
people?
Such thoughts stop me
from registering myself as an
organ donor but I might do it
in future, said 25 year old law
student Dewas Verma. Besides
this, there are many people who
want to be an organ donor but
are not aware of the process of
getting registered as the donor.
I would like to be an organ
donor but I am not aware
where and who I need to
approach to be an organ
donor, said Ramnagar resident
Meena Khulbe.
Informing about the organ
donation process the state sec-
retary of the Indian Medical
Association (IMA) Dr Ajay
Khanna stated that organ dona-
tion is a noble cause and sev-
eral lives can be saved with a
single person's donated organs
but due to lack of awareness
and certain cultural belief, not
many come forward to be
organ donors.
He said that hardly one to
two per cent of the state's pop-
ulation register as organ donors
which has started in the recent
few years too. Khanna said that
to be an organ donor, any
adult aged 18 years to 75 years
can register himself or herself
as a donor in government hos-
pitals like Government Doon
Medical College (GDMC) hos-
pital in Dehradun. Organ
donation can save several lives
and people should come for-
ward to give others a gift of life
after they die, said the IMA
secretary.

The operator of a public toi-
let at the old Tehsil premis-
es, Sanjay Kumar has accused
Dehradun Smart City Limited
(DSCL) of constructing multi-
ple smart toilets at the same
location where many public
toilets already exist. He alleged
that the officials are wasting the
government's money and
resources in building smart
toilets at such places where the
people do not require them.
Kumar said that he is operat-
ing a public toilet in the premis-
es of old Tehsil under public-
private partnership (PPP)
mode since the year 2002. He
stated that he has signed a con-
tract with Uttarakhand
Renewable Energy
Development Agency
(UREDA) for the operation of
this public toilet till the year
2032 where he has also set up
a biogas plant. Kumar alleged
that DSCL has started con-
structing a public toilet adja-
cent to the toilet he manages
and also damaged the biogas
plant in the process. The pub-
lic toilet I run is a 10 seat toi-
let. There is another toilet a few
metres away on Dispensary
Road and another at Rajeev
Gandhi complex. There are at
least two more public toilets in
the area and now another toi-
let is being built just adjacent
to this toilet.
Out of these, three toilets
are made under the smart city
project. What is the use of so
many toilets at a single loca-
tion? Rather than building sev-
eral toilets within a 50 metres
range, the government should
build toilets at such locations
where no toilets are available
for several kilometres, stated
Kumar.
He said that government
agencies should focus on
improving the condition of
already existing toilets rather
than building new multiple
toilets within the same area. I
use biogas generated through
the biogas plant in the premis-
es for cooking and electricity.
It was set up in 2002 and it can
easily cook food for about 60
people on a daily basis. Such
measures can be adopted by
agencies to capitalise on the use
of public toilets rather than
constructing new toilets blind-
ly. It affects the business of
operators like us whose liveli-
hood depends on the daily col-
lection of money from the
public toilet. I have written to
the district magistrate and state
government regarding this
issue but have not received any
concrete response.
I along with nearby locals
recently staged a protest against
the authorities too and we will
protest again if this construc-
tion will not be stopped soon,
said Kumar.

Cabinet Minister Rekha
Arya launched Pahadi cow
milk on the even of Krishna
Janmashtami here on Sunday.
The minister said that this
milk is very beneficial for the
health of the aged, women and
children.
Launching the Aanchal
Pahadi cow milk in Ramnagar,
the minister also greeted the
people on the eve of
Janmashtami. The Pahadi cow
milk launched by Aanchal is
fully organic and free of chem-
icals. This milk will be of the
cows which graze in the jungles
of mountainous areas. The
minister said that this product
has been prepared keeping the
health of women, the aged and
children in mind. This milk will
be made available in the mar-
ket in half litre packs. Talking
about reviving earlier concepts
she said that homes in which
guests are welcomed with milk,
ghee, Paneer and butter should
be considered wealthy. She
exhorted the people to also
popularise ghee, milk, paneer
and dairy products as gifts.
The minister further said
that the state government is
working to further strengthen
the dairy cooperative commit-
tees. Work is also underway to
increase the incentive amount
in order to facilitate this, she
said.
The minister also appealed
to those in the dairy sector to
work in the direction of breed
improvement. She talked about
artificial insemination achiev-
ing 90 birthing of female calves,
adding that Uttarakhand is on
top among Indian states when
it comes to this. She further
exhorted all to become involved
in fishery, dairy and animal
husbandry to increase their
own income and improve the
economy.
The local MLA Diwan
Singh Bisht claimed that the
state government is doing well
when it comes to Aanchal dairy.
He averred that Aanchal milk
is making the people self reliant,
adding that the youth should
also adopt dairy as a business.
The government is also pro-
viding loans for such purposes.
The people should derive the
benefit of such governmental
schemes, added the MLA.

Counter-terrorism experts
here are not surprised at
the ISIS (Khorasan) claiming
responsibility for the August 26
blasts at the Kabul airport even
as a second attack close to the
airport in the Afghan Capital
was reported on Sunday, turn-
ing true the US’ alert about
such a possibility.
While the Afghan and
Pakistan Taliban as also the
ISIS (Khorasan) are all linked,
Pakistan’s Inter-Services
Intelligence (ISI) has created
the distinction to allow Taliban
gain international recognition
and subsequently, receive
grants.
In fact, the blasts at the
Kabul airport could have been
the handiwork of Afghan
Taliban itself or executed by
ISIS-K with knowledge of
Taliban, in order to expedite
the pending evacuation of for-
eign nationals and terrorize the
locals not to flock the airport,
the experts suspect.
Experts tracking develop-
ments in Afghanistan said as
many as 27 Taliban fighters
were killed in the Kabul bomb-
ings earlier this week but it con-
veniently shifted the blame to
ISIS-K as part of the
larger ISI ploy of denying vio-
lence since the Taliban has
now wrested power from the
erstwhile Abdul Ghani led gov-
ernment. Both the Taliban and
the ISI-K share similar ideolo-
gy.
The ISIS (Khorasan), also
a splinter group and an exten-
sion of the Taliban, will be used
by the ISI for the abduction of
foreign nationals still working
on pending projects there. The
ISI will then offer to broker
ransom deals with the ISI-K
and extort hefty sums of money
for such abducted foreigners,
sources said.
In addition, the ISIS
(Khorasan) will also be used for
legitimising the drug money
generated from the opium car-
tel operating out of Taliban
under the patronage of ISI
through its terror affiliates like
the Lashkar-e-Tayabba and
Jaish-e-Mohammad as also
Taliban, they said.
Counter-terrorism expert
Dr Rituraj Mate told The
Pioneer, “The discrimination
between the Taliban and ISI-K
and portrayal of their separate
identities is an ISI conspiracy
to allow
Taliban the elbow room to
collect funds from white chan-
nels like international funding
agencies and for evading scruti-
ny from the FATF.
The ISI-K will be in charge
of the dirty games of generat-
ing funds from illegal drugs
trade and extortion bids as also
to perpetrate killings and
bombings.”
Assessments here suggest
the tacit understanding and
coordination between the
Taliban and the ISI-K could
also be unraveled as the former
swiftly took control of
Nangarhar, one of the 34
provinces of Afghanistan, from
the latter that controlled the
area.
However, it cannot be
ruled out that ISI-K could be
seeking its share of the spoils of
the capture of Afghanistan by
Taliban that is yet to form a
governance mechanism for
cooperation in takeover of
Nangarhar.
Counter-terrorism expert
of Afghan origin and founder
of the Afghanistan Republican
Salvation Front, Ajmal Sohail,
said, “The control of Kabul and
the airport there rests with the
Haqqani Network, so the
attacks on Kabul airport being
blamed on the ISI-K could
just be an eyewash and could
be a result of some behind-the-
scenes negotiations between
the CIA and Taliban in the run-
up to the Kabul bombings.”
The August 26 blasts have
so far claimed 170 lives even as
the US has claimed to have
killed the ISIS-K planner
behind the bombing in a retal-
iatory drone strike.

Prime Minister Narendra
Modi on Sunday lauded
the experimental zeal of today’s
Indian youth who, he said, is
ready to choose a ‘new and
unknown goal’ and determined
to achieve it, be it in science,
business, sports or any other
field.
“India’s youth is giving
emphasis to quality. Today’s
youth does not want to walk on
the pre-decided road. They
want to step into the unknown
world. Their destination is
new, their goal is new, their
path is new and their desire is
new. Once our youth gets
determined, they work hard to
achieve that goal. They start
working day and night on it,”
the Prime Minister said in his
monthly radio talk ‘mann ki
baat’,
“Not long ago, India
opened its space sector and on
seeing that, the youth of our
generation grabbed the oppor-
tunity and benefitted from it.
The students of colleges, uni-
versities and young people
working in the private sector
stepped forward as well. I am
sure that in the coming days, a
large number of such satellites
will be used by our youth. Our
students, our colleges, our uni-
versities, students are working
in labs in this regard,” Modi
said.
Similarly, he said, the
recent Olympic performance
has been fired by Indian youth
and cited Indian hockey men’s
winning prize in Tokyo.
Modi said the passion for
sports in the youth of the
country at the present times is
the greatest tribute to hockey
wizard Major Dhyan Chand.
“Irrespective of the number
of medals won, no citizen of
India enjoys victory until a
medal is won in hockey. And
this time, in the Olympics, the
medal that was won for hock-
ey came our way after four
decades,” he said.
“This time, Olympics have
created a major impact. The
events at the Olympics are
over; the Paralympics are going
on. Whatever our country
earned in this world of Sports
may be little in comparison
with the world, but enough has
happened to bolster our belief,”
Modi said.
Modi on Sunday also spoke
to Para table tennis player
Bhavina Patel, 34, and con-
gratulated her on winning a sil-
ver medal at Tokyo
Paralympics.
“In the country now, sports
and games sportsman spirit is
not to stop. In family life, in
social life, in the life of the
Nation, this momentum has to
be accorded
permanence…infusing it with
energy…replenishing it with
relentless new energy,” he said.
Continuing to speak on
Indian youth, Modi said they
have also made big global
impact on the toy industry that
has a huge market of around C
6 to 7 lakh crore.
He said that youth today is
focussing on improving the
processes, variety and tech-
nology in toy-making and
experimenting with new
things.
The Prime Minister
extended greetings on Krishna
Janmashtami and urged the
countrymen to carry forward
the great traditions of the
nation.
He said about 3-4 kilome-
tres away from Somnath tem-
ple there is the Bhalka Teerth
which which is the place where
Lord Krishna spent his last
moments on earth.
He further mentioned
Jadurani Dasi, a US citizen who
he said is an American and is
connected to ISKCON Hare
Krishna movement and one of
her major specialities is that she
is skilled in Bhakti Arts. He said
it is ‘our responsibility’ to pre-
serve culture and traditions.

The India
Meteorological
Department (IMD)
data has shown that
rainfall in August
has been deficient
by 26 per cent so far,
with shortfalls in two successive
months triggering fear of a
below normal monsoon this
year.
The rainfall in July was
seven per cent less than nor-
mal. “August recorded 26 per
cent deficiency till yesterday
(August 28),” IMD Director
General Mrutunjay Mohapatra
said, adding that the shortfall
has been recorded in north and
central India. June recorded 10
per cent more rainfall. The
IMD will soon release a fore-
cast for September, he said.
Presently, of the 694 dis-
tricts, 251 witnessed deficient
rainfall or drought like situa-
tion due to lack of rainfall.
India received 630 mm rainfall
as against the normal of 696.6
mm since the onset of the
southwest monsoon on June 1,
a deficiency of 10 percent.
Punjab, Gujarat, Himachal
Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir,
Kerala, Mizoram, Manipur,
Nagaland and Lakshadweep
are among the rain deficient
States and Union Territories.
The shortfalls in two suc-
cessive months in the four-
month Southwest Monsoon
season from June 1 to
September 30 have triggered
fear of a below normal mon-
soon this year.
The IMD had earlier pre-
dicted a normal monsoon this
year. Skymet Weather, a private
weather forecasting agency,
has downgraded their forecast
to a “below normal” mon-
soon this year.
According to the IMD
data, the country received 10
per cent less rainfall from June
1 to August 28. The IMD had
predicted normal rainfall for
August (94 to 106 per cent of
Long Period Average or LPA),
but it appears that the forecast
will be off the mark.
Rainfall over the country
as a whole during the second
half (August to September) of
the 2021 Southwest Monsoon
season is most likely to be
normal with a tendency to be
in the positive side of the nor-
mal, the IMD had said earlier
this month.
The IMD has four meteo-
rological divisions covering
different parts of the country.
The northwest India which
covers the north Indian plains
and the hill states has record-
ed 13 per cent less rainfall than
normal.
The central India division
which encompasses Gujarat,
Goa, Madhya Pradesh,
Chhattisgarh, Odisha and
Maharashtra has recorded 14
per cent deficiency.
The east and northeast
India division that includes
Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal
and the northeastern states
has recorded eight per cent
deficiency.
The south peninsula divi-
sion which covers all the
southern states has recorded 5
per cent more rainfall than
normal.

Hyderabad-based Bharat
Biotech is seeking inter-
national manufacturing part-
ners as it targets a billion doses
of its Covid-19 vaccine
Covaxin each year even as the
first commercial batch of the
jab was released on Sunday by
Union Health Minister
Mansukh Mandaviya from the
pharma company’s new plant at
Ankleshwar in Gujarat’s
Bharuch district. The jabs man-
ufactured at Ankleshwar facil-
ity will be available for supply
starting September 2021.
Covaxin is one of the five
vaccines that have been
approved for emergency use
approval in India. However,
Bharat Biotech has struggled to
boost output, missing supply
commitments to the Indian
government.
“We want to ensure that
Bharat Biotech can ably meet
the demand for Covaxin such
that individuals across the
country, and the globe, have
access to the vaccine,” the com-
pany’s chairman and managing
director Krishna Ella said in a
statement here.
On Sunday, the company
rolled out the first batch of
Covaxin shots from a facility in
Ankleshwar in western India
that has the capacity to produce
more than 1 crore doses per
month.
After the launch, Union
Health Minister Mansukh
Mandaviya said: “We want to
ensure equitable access of the
vaccine to every Indian citizen,
and the expansion of Covaxin
production facilities by Bharat
Biotech will take us closer to this
goal.”
He took to Twitter to talk
about the importance of vacci-
nation drive in fighting the
pandemic and said the launch
“will increase the supply of
vaccine in the country and will
help in reaching the vaccine to
every Indian.”
Bharat Biotech has already
deployed multiple production
lines at its Hyderabad, Malur,
Bengaluru, and Pune campus-
es. “We want to ensure that
Bharat Biotech can ably meet
the demand for Covaxin such
that individuals across the coun-
try, and the globe, have access
to the vaccine and can secure
their health and safety. Our goal
to develop a vaccine with glob-
al safety and efficacy standards
has now been achieved, we are
now marching towards the goal
of the annualised capacity of one
billion doses,” said Ella.
Presently major share of
Covid-19 vaccination drive is
being handled by the Serum
Institute of India which has pro-
vided over 55 crore Covishield
jabs with Bharat Biotech lagging
far behind by contributing just
over 7 crore jabs of Covaxin till
now since January 16 when the
national programme was
launched.

Eighteen months since they
stopped, there is no sign of
resumption of international
flights from India even as
there is now an apprehension
of a third wave of coronavirus.
The Directorate General of
Civil Aviation (DGCA) on
Sunday extended the suspen-
sion on international sched-
uled commercial flights till
September 30 owing to the
coronavirus disease (Covid-19)
pandemic. The ban was to end
on August 31.
“In partial modification
of circular dated 26-06-2020,
the competent authority has
further extended the validity of
circular issued on the subject
cited above regarding
Scheduled International com-
mercial passenger services
to/from India till 2359 hrs IST
of September 30, 2021,” the
DGCA circular said.
“However, international
scheduled flights may be
allowed on selected routes by
the competent authority on a
case-to-case basis,” it added.
However, the restriction does-
n’t apply to international all-
cargo operations as well as
flights specifically approved
by the DGCA. Scheduled
international passenger flights
were suspended in India on
March 23 due to the coron-
avirus pandemic. But special
international flights have been
operating under the Vande
Bharat Mission since May 2020
and under bilateral “air bubble”
arrangements with selected
countries since July 2020. India
has formed air bubble pacts
with around 25 countries
including the US, the UK, the
UAE, Kenya, Bhutan and
France.
Under an air bubble pact
between two countries, special
international flights can be
operated by their airlines
between their territories.
However, some countries that
had ‘air bubble’ arrangements
with India banned air travel to
and from the country at the
peak of the second wave.
These countries were
Australia, Canada,
Bangladesh, Germany, France,
Indonesia, Hong Kong, Italy,
Kuwait, Iran, New Zealand,
Saudi Arabia, Oman, the
United Arab Emirates, and
Singapore.
While some countries lift-
ed the ban later, many others
are yet to do so. The UK
recently elevated India to its
amber list of countries. The
elevation means travellers
from India no longer have to
undergo institutional quar-
antine upon entering the
country.
Meanwhile, after a long
hiatus, flights between India
and Bangladesh will resume
from September 3, 2021. The
Ministry of Civil Aviation
(MoCA) said that passenger
airlines can resume opera-
tions after four months under
an air bubble agreement
signed by the two countries
last year. “The air bubble may
be resumed w.e.f. 03.09.21 till
resumption of scheduled
International passenger
flights,’ MoCA letter read. Sri
Lanka has also decided to
resume flight from nine cities
in India.

If India is to safeguard its peo-
ple’s lives, particularly chil-
dren, from the looming crisis
of deadly non communicable
diseases (NCDs), it needs to
urgently and mandatorily
adopt front-of-pack warning
labels (FOPL) on all ultra
processed foods (UPF), health
experts said here on Friday.
They have reasons.
According to Euromonitor esti-
mates, the sale of UPF has
increased from 2 kg per capita
in 2005 to 6kg in 2019 and is
expected to grow to 8kg in
2024. Similarly, beverages have
gone up from less than 2 Litres
in 2005 to about 8 Litres in 2019
and are expected to grow to 10
Litres in 2024. Unchecked
consumption of these UPF is
leading the country’s youth to
overweight and obesity.
At a webinar held here to
discuss the issue threadbare,
experts felt that though simple
consumer-friendly moves,
FOPL can allow for a paradigm
shift in the food consumption
pattern of the country and as a
result, avert an impending
NCD crisis, saving many lives.
“Right-to-health is a fun-
damental right of every person.
Therefore in Indian context,
states are required to adopt reg-
ulatory measures such as front-
of-package warning labelling
on foods and beverages con-
taining excessive amounts of
wasteful nutrients such as sugar
to tackle the rising burden of
obesity and NCDs,” said
Dr.Suneela Garg, President ,
Indian Association of
Preventive and Social Medicine
(IAPSM), at the webinar.
Presenting evidence from
around the world, Neha
Khandpur, faculty of public
health from University of Sao
Paulo, Brazil’s Centre for
Nutrition informed, “Warning
labels have consistently been
shown to be most effective at
improving consumer under-
standing, at influencing their
purchase decisions and at sup-
porting healthy food choices.
They also are most likely to
encourage product reformula-
tion. Warning labels are the
strongest nutrient-based label
that India should consider
implementing”.
Dr Arun Gupta , convenor
of Nutrition Advocacy in
Public Interest (NAPi), a
national think tank working on
nutrition policy, said, “This is
happening at a time when
India is showing a tremendous
rise in sales of UPF items both
in the category of food and bev-
erages.

Ayurvedic poly-herbal for-
mulation, Neeri-KFT, has
the potential to not only slow
down the progression of chron-
ic kidney disease (CKD) but
also restore normalcy in func-
tional parameters of the vital
organ, a team of researchers has
claimed. Their review is pub-
lished in the latest edition of
Saudi Journal of Biological
Sciences.
They concluded that
“Phytopharmacological evalua-
tion of Neeri-KFT suggests that
it exhibit substantial potential
against oxidative and inflam-
matory stress induced apopto-
sis by exerting antioxidant,
nephroprotective and
immunomodulatory effects…in
the patients associated with
renal dysfunction or chronic
kidney disease (CKD).”
The Neeri-KFT, a herbal
medicine extracted from plants
has been found to correct oxida-
tive as well as inflammatory
stress known for reducing
body’s immunity, said the
authors after drawing data on
the formulation for kidney ail-
ments from more than five
electronic databases such as
Science Direct, Google Scholar,
Elsevier, PubMed, Springer,
ACS publication from pub-
lished database between 2000
and 2020.
The study, ‘A systematic
review on nephroprotective
AYUSH drugs as constituents of
NEERI-KFT’ also highlighted
the herbal drug’s efficacy in
reducing “serum creatinine,
blood urea, and serum uric acid
as compared to placebo group”
and described “its well-tolerat-
ed effect with no adverse hema-
tological or biochemical abnor-
malities occurred to any subjects
during clinical trial.”
“It can be suggested that
NEERI-KFT can be an alterna-
tive and complementary thera-
py at end-stage renal disease
(ESRD) or complete loss of
kidney function where frequent
dialysis of renal transplant
remains only a single option for
continued survival CKD
patients,” researchers noted.
KK Sharma, MD of the
AIMIL Pharma explained that
the herbal formulation com-
prised of “herbal extracts of
more than twenty different
potent medicinal plants like
Haridra, Varuna, Shirish,
Gokhru, Punarnava and
Anantamul to name a few,
known for their Nephro
Corrective, anti-inflammatory
and antioxidant properties and
reparative regeneration of kid-
ney cells.”
Head of BHU’s Department
of Dravyaguna, Dr K N
Dwivedi, felt that the herbal
ingredients in Neeri-KFT are
loaded with many anti-oxidants
besides medicinal values which
not only strengthen kidney but
liver also. “This is a very unique
drug and we have found it very
effective in our study also,” he
added.
As per the Center for
Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) 2021, 15% of adults and
14% of women are estimated to
have CKD which is associated
with a high prevalence of risk
factors in the patients such as
hypertension, diabetes and
depression.

Aday after Chief Minister
Pinarayi Vijayan said that
all was well in Kerala despite
the daily hike in the number of
people afflicted with Covid-19
cases and the State was a shin-
ing example to the rest of the
country, discontentment from
the medical fraternity came out
in the open.
Kerala Government
Medical Officers Association
(KGMOA), the biggest apolit-
ical organization of doctors
working in the Government
service fired the first salvo on
Sunday about the impending
agitations.
“We are overworked,
exhausted, tired and being
over-exploited by the authori-
ties. On an average, more than
a hundred medical staff get
afflicted with Covid-19 every
day as doctors, nurses and
other supporting staff are
forced to work without break,”
said Dr G S Vijayakrishnan and
Dr T N Suresh, president and
general secretary respectively of
the KGMOA on Sunday.
The doctors said that
despite their pleas to the
Government, especially the
Chief Minister, during the last
18 months highlighting the
shortcomings faced by the pub-
lic health sector in the State, the
Government has not done any-
thing to resolve
the issues. Meanwhile the sit-
uation has gone from bad to
worse with more and more
doctors coming under attack
from the patients as well as
their relations for no fault of the
doctors or the hospital
staff.
“The Government is duty
bound to adopt policy deci-
sions which would strengthen
the health infrastructure, retain
and encourage the services of
doctors with professional expe-
rience in public health,” said the
statement.
They pointed out that
instead of strengthening the
public health sector, what the
Government has done during
the last 18 months was to
weaken the sector beyond
recognition. “Public health sec-
tor in Kerala is crumbling and
fretting day by day.
The Government, instead
of taking steps to strengthen
the sector is allowing it to get
disintegrated day by day. What
has happened is that most of
the doctors who are frontline
warriors in the fight against
Covid-19 have got afflicted
with the pandemic of course
through contacts,” said the
statement.
The doctors as well as their
family members are falling
victims to Covid-19, they said.
“While other States in India are
in the forefront to help and
inspire the doctors by hiking
salaries, perks and risk
allowances, the Kerala
Government has cut down the
remuneration and done away
with risk allowances and the
insurance safety net . Our
requests to recruit 1,000 doc-
tors, at least on temporary
scale, have fallen on
deaf ears,” rue the doctors asso-
ciation.
An office bearer of
KGMOA said that Health
Minister Veena George deny-
ing in the floor of the
Legislative Assembly about
physical assaults on doctors was
proof of how indifferent the
Government is towards their
grievances.
The statement further said
that the Government instead of
encouraging the good works
done by the doctors fraternity
have drastically deducted their
entry level pay and cut short
whatever little allowances they
were getting.
Aligarh:Wildlife lovers group SAVE NGO
of Aligarh urged devotees of Lord Krishna
not to use peacock feathers for decoration
in this Janmashtmi. The feather of national
birds is widely used during the festival for
decoration purpose. However, Wild lovers
have appealed those devotees instead of buy-
ing peacock feathers every years to add ambi-
ence and appeal to the decor, should preserve
the same and use it, as and when required.
Traders are also using the images of lord
Krishna which symbolizes love towards
animals and restrict the purchase of peacock
feathers.The demand of peacock feather
already rises by leaps and bounds during the
festive seasons. The huge demand for peacock
feather endangers the existence of national
bird.
Dr Shilpi Gupta office bearer of Save

Lucknow: Ayodhya is nothing
without Lord Ram, President
Ram Nath Kovind said on
Sunday as he visited the city,
where a Ram temple is under
construction.
Without Ram, Ayodhya is
not Ayodhya. Ayodhya exists
where there is Ram. Lord Ram
resides permanently in this city,
and hence in the true sense, this
place is Ayodhya, the president
said while inaugurating a
Ramayan conclave there.
He was also scheduled to
visit the Ram Janmabhoomi
construction sitewherethetem-
ple is coming up, after a historic
verdict by the Supreme Court
in 2019.
Apparently referring to his
name, Kovind said, I feel that
when my family members
named me, they were possibly
havingthefeeling ofrespectand
affection towards Ram Katha
and Lord Ram, which is seen in
the common public.
Elaborating further on
Ayodhya, the President said,
Theliteral meaningofAyodhya
is the one with whom it is
impossible to wage a war.
Owingtothecourageandpower
of Raghuvanshi kings Raghu,
Dileep, Aj, Dashrath and Ram,
their capital was considered
unconquerable. Therefore, the
name of this city as 'Ayodhya'
will always remain relevant.
Highlighting the love of
Lord Ram towards tribals, he
said, During his days of exile,
Lord Ram did not call armies of
Ayodhya and Mithila to fight
the war. He gathered the Kols,
Bheels, Vaanars and formed his
army. In his campaign, he
included 'Jatayu (vulture)'. He
strengthened love and friend-
ship with the tribals. PTI
‘Srinagar: The Jammu Kashmir Police is
cracking down on cyber terrorists, also
known as white-collar jihadis, as it feels
that they are the worst kind of terrorists
who remain anonymous but cause an
immeasurable amount of damage and
brainwashing of youngsters, officials said
here.
According to an assessment provided
by Director General of Jammu and Kashmir
Police Dilbag Singh, senior army officers and
officials from the security establishment,
there is a fear that these white-collar
jihadis could trigger a communal clash or
influence some youths by manipulating
news on social media while they themselves
live comfortably in faraway countries.
The battleground is new where con-
ventional weaponry and the fighting zones
of a warren of narrow streets and forests are
replaced by computers and smartphones to
wage war from just about anywhere -- in
Kashmir or outside, safe inside their homes
or out on the streets, from a nearby café or
even just a convenient roadside.
A senior army officer termed them
white-collar jihadis who mislead the
youth and general population by peddling
lies on social media and twisting the situa-
tion to suit the separatists or terrorist
groups.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police recent-
ly arrested five suspected white-collar
jihadis who were behind a campaign to
spread falsehood about the sovereignty of
the country.
They, according to the police, were
tasked with preparing a strategic hit list of
government officers, journalists, social
activists, lawyers and political functionar-
ies to instil fear among people.
A cyber terrorist is actually deadlier
than an actual terrorist because first, he is
in hiding and second, he is absolutely
unknown -- unknown till you get into cer-
tain very specific details, DGP Singh said.
It is very difficult to find out those
kinds of details to locate them and who is
actually using that particular identity in the
virtual world. People have taken advantage
of anonymity in the cyber world and that
is why they indulge in such kinds of activ-
ities, he said.
Singh has been laying special empha-
sis on putting a check on cyber terrorists as
he feels that they are the worst kind of ter-
rorists (as) they are not seen but the
amount of damage they do and the amount
of pollution of the mind of the youth they
do are immeasurable.
He says they are the people who are
responsible for recruitment, they are the
ones who would make some sort of com-
ments and statements on social media
which would create a communal wedge
between various communities, between
Hindus and Muslims and others.
Therefore, taking care of them and hit-
ting them is very very important so we are
working on that front and achieved some
success in some areas. More work and more
focussed work is needed. We will continue
to do whatever is needed in this regard,
Singh told PTI recently.
The police chief cited an encounter ear-
lier this year in Nowgam and said sudden-
ly there was a tweet claiming that a minor-
ity community person had given informa-
tion about terrorist presence there to the
security agency. PTI

Mumbai: Amid a bitter feud between his party and
Union Minister Narayan Rane, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay
Raut on Sunday wondered whether BJP leadership
is supporting those people who insult Maharashtra's
pride and self-respect.
Raut, the executive editor of the party mouth-
piece “Saamana”, said in his weekly column that apart
from Maharashtra BJP leaders Devendra Fadnavis
and Chandrakant Patil, Central leaders like BJP pres-
ident JP Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah had
reportedly called up Rane to express their support
to him.
If this is true then it is an insult to Maharashtra's
self-respect and pride. Why does Delhi stand in sup-
port of those who insult Maharashtra's pride and
self-respect? Raut asked.
Rane, a BJP MP, was arrested on August 24 after
his would have slapped Maharashtra Chief Minister
Uddhav Thackeray for the latter's ignorance of the
year of India's independence remarks kicked up a
huge row.
The remarks triggered violent protests by Shiv
Sena cadres who vandalised offices of BJP in some
cities and clashed with supporters of Rane.
In the write-up, Raut accused Rane and his sons-
former MP Nilesh Rane and BJP MLA Nitesh Rane-
of using derogatory and unParliamentary language
against the Sena leadership.
A Union Minister speaks of slapping the
state's chief minister and BJP leaders look around
helplessly, he wrote. Raut expressed surprise over
BJP leaders terming Rane's arrest, which he said was
done legally, unconstitutional. Nobody has the right
to insult the posts of PM, President and Chief
Minister. Rane has been committing this crime often.
If anybody thinks that taking action in this regard
is a crime, then it is like belittling the Constitution,
he said.
Raut stated that Rane's sons have damaged the
political career of their father the most. Fadnavis
and Chandrakant Patil (Maharashtra BJP chief) will
meet the same fate due to the sons of Rane, he
said. PTI

In a development that the ruling
Shiv Sena linked to Union
Minister Narayan Rane’s recent
arrest, the Enforcement Directorate
(ED) on Sunday summoned Sena
leader and State Transport Minister
Anil Parab for questioning on
Tuesday.
Notwithstanding Shiv Sena’s
spokesperson Sanjay Raut’s allega-
tion linking the ED summons to
Rane’s arrest during the latter’s
recent “Jan Ashirward Yatra”, offi-
cial sources said that Parab had
been summoned for questioning in
connection with the allegations of
corruption made incarcerated
police officer Sachin Vaze against
Parab. Disclosing that ED had
summoned Parab to appear before
it for questioning, Raut tweeted:
“Shabhaas! As expected, the ED has
issued a notice to Parab as soon as
Rane’s Jan Sangarsh Yatra ended.
The government above (Centre) has
got down to work now. Epi-centre
of the earthquake was Ratnagiri.
Parab is the guardian Minister of
Ratnagiri district. You should
understand the chronology. We
will fight the battle in the courts”.
On his part, Leader of
Opposition in the State Legislative
Council Pravin Darekar of the BJP
denied Raut’s allegations and said
the ED notice could in no way be
linked with the recent political
turmoil witnessed during Rane’s
“Jan Ashirward Yatra” the ED must
have been based on a complaint
lodged with the central investigat-
ing agency against him.
It may be recalled that Rane was
arrested at Sangamner in Ratnagiri
district on August 24 for his “tight-
slap” remark against Maharashtra
Chief Minister and Shiv Sena
President Uddhav Thackeray.
However, Rane was granted bail by
a Mahad court on the same night.
Following Rane’s arrest, the
BJP had charged that Parab, as a
guardian minister of Ratnagiri dis-
trict, had mounted pressure on the
district police administration to
arrest Rane. The principal opposi-
tion party had also demanded a CBI
probe into a CBI probe into a video
clip that purportedly showed the
minister speaking to a senior police
official and asking the latter to arrest
Rane. Rane resumed his “Jan
Ashirward Yatra” from Ratnagiri on
August 27. While Rane threatened
to unravel the mystery surround-
ing the deaths of late actor Sushant
Singh Rajput’s ex-manager Rajput
Disha Salian and Tik-Tok star
Pooja Chavan, and
“expose” the two MVA minis-
ters’ role in the two deaths.
Rane continued to target the
Sena and Chief Minister Uddhav
Thackeray while Raut wondered
why BJP was “shielding’ the Rane
family.
During the course of his yatra,
Rane had gone on record saying
that several MVA leaders are on the
radar of the ED and CBI and
tough times awaited for the Shiv
Sena-led MVA government.
However, informed sources in
the ED said that the summons
issued to Parab related to an alle-
gation that Vaze had made in April
this year that the minister had asked
him to collect Rs 50 crore to close
a preliminary inquiry against Saifee
Burhani Upliftment Trust (SBUT).
It may be recalled that in a four-
page hand written letter to the
Special Judge of the NIA court on
April 7, 2021 Vaze – who is cur-
rently in the central investigating
agency’s custody in the twin SUV
planting and alleged Manshukh
Hiran murder cases – had claimed
that Parab had called him July-
August, 2020 to his official bun-
galow and look into a complaint
concerning the Saifee Burhani
Upliftment Trust (SBUT), which
was under preliminary enquiry
and asked him to bring the SBUT
trustees to him for negotiations
about the enquiry.
“He ( Parab) also insisted to ini-
tiate primary talks to get Rs.50 crore
from the SBUT in order to close the
said enquiry. I had expressed my
inability to do any such things as I
do not know anyone from the
SBUT and also I did not have any
control over the enquiry,” Vaze
contended in his letter to the NIA
court.
Even at that time, Raut had
defended Parab by charging that “a
new letter writing trend” had start-
ed in the state to destabilise the
MVA government by writing letters
from behind the bars.

Kolkata: Sikha Mitra, the widow of for-
mer West Bengal Congress chief Somen
Mitra, returned to the ruling Trinamool
Congress on Sunday.
Mitra claimed that though she
had resigned as a Trinamool Congress
MLA in 2014, she had never officially
quit the party.
My husband was made the state
Congress chief but I had taken a break
from active politics. I was touched by
the warmth and simplicity of Chief
Minister Mamata Banerjee who called
me up and requested me to be an active
TMC worker. I decided that if I join
active politics again, it has to be under
her, she told reporters.
Responding to a query why she
had resigned as a TMC MLA seven
years ago, Mitra said, Differences
crop up at times but those have been
resolved. Mamata Banerjee had called
me up after my husband's death and I
have always been on cordial terms with
her.
The BJP had nominated Mitra as
a party candidate for the Chowringhee
assembly seat in Kolkata in this year's
assembly elections but she had declined
to contest it. Speaking on the incident,
she said, I have always believed that the
BJP is a communal party.
TMC MP Mala Roy and
Chowringhee's party MLA Nayna
Bandyopadhyay welcomed Mitra and
two local Congress leaders into the
party at its headquarters Trinamool
Bhavan. PTI
Mumbai: The Narcotics Control
Bureau (NCB) has arrested actor
Armaan Kohli in connection with
a drugs case after questioning him
at its office in south Mumbai for a
few hours following the recovery of
cocaine at his residence here, an
official said on Sunday.
An NCB team raided Kohli's
house in Juhu on Saturday evening
and later took him to the agency's
office. He was arrested after a few
hours of questioning and booked
under the provisions of the
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances (NDPS) Act, the official
said.
The announcement of his
arrest was made to the media at 10
am on Sunday, he said.
After his arrest, Kohli was
produced before a holiday court
here, which remanded him in the
NCB custody till Monday for fur-
ther probe into the matter.
The NCB official said that a
small quantity of cocaine was
found at Kohli's residence on
Saturday, following which a case
was registered against him and he
was arrested.
Kohli had featured in the
Salman Khan-starter Prem Ratan
Dhan Payo among other films and
was also one of the contestants of
the TV reality show Bigg Boss.
The action against Kohli fol-
lowed the arrest of TV actor
Gaurav Dixit by the central anti-
drugs agency here on Friday.
The official said that the NCB
decided to question Kohli after cer-
tain disclosures were made by
Ajay Raju Singh, the main drug
peddler detained for interroga-
tion on Saturday, during his inter-
rogation.
Singh was also arrested under
the NDPS Act. He was inter-
cepted near Haji Ali and 25 grams
of MD was recovered from him on
Saturday, the official said.
Singh had been booked by the
Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Mumbai
Police in 2018 in connection with
the seizure of a huge quantity of
Ephedrine, he said.
After interrogating Singh, we
launched a follow-up operation on
Saturday afternoon. Subsequently,
a team of NCB officials raided
Armaan Kohli's houses and recov-
ered a small quantity of cocaine
from him. Later, a case was
registered against him and he was
shown arrested, the official
said.
As per the preliminary inves-
tigation, the seized cocaine is of
South American origin .PTI

Significant secondary explo- sions from the vehicle indi- cated the presence of a sub- stantial amount of explosive material,” Urban said. The US is assessing the possibili- ties of civilian casualties, though it has no indications at this time. “We remain vig- ilant for potential future threats,” Urban said in a state- ment. Earlier, the Taliban’s official spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a message to journalists in Afghanistan that the US strike targeted a suicide bomber in a vehicle who wanted to attack the Kabul international airport amid the American military’s evacuation there. However, Mujahid offered few other details about the incident, as well as about another rocket that struck a neighbourhood just northwest of the airport, killing a child. The two strikes initially appeared to be sepa- rate incidents, though infor- mation on both remained scarce. US President Joe Biden has vowed to keep up air strikes against the Islamic State extremist group whose suicide bombing at the Kabul airport killed scores of Afghans and 13 American service members. “Our commanders informed me that an attack is highly likely in the next 24-36 hours,” Biden said, adding that he has instructed them to take all possible measures to protect their troops, who are securing the airport. A094B7:D0AQ =4F34;78 The national unemployment rate rose to 8. 1 per cent in the week ended August 28 as against 6.95 per cent in July. This is despite the fact that most of the States and Union territories have fully reopened their economy after a decline in the ferocity of the second Covid-19 wave. Rural unemployment took a sharp upward turn to 7.3 per cent from 6.34 per cent and urban joblessness rose to 9.7 per cent from 8.30 per cent during the same period. Experts and economists have been arguing that decent jobs are still missing, and their return will depend on the revival in the economy, growth in consumption, and the pan- demic situation. The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) data showed the unemployment remained between 7.16 per cent and 8.07 per cent at the national level from August 5 to August 28. Urban unemploy- ment was registered between 8.38 per cent and 9.71 per cent while rural unemployment remained between 6.53 per cent and 7.31 per cent during the same period. According to CMIE, the unemployment per- centage in Haryana was 28.1, the highest in the country fol- lowed by 21 per cent each in Goa and Rajasthan. According to experts, even so, unemployment, mainly due to the effects of restrictions imposed due to the pandemic, remains high. But as most of the sectors have started resuming func- tioning gradually, the percent- age of unemployment in India is still high. Since the beginning of July, unemployment in urban India has stayed below 9 per cent, and at the national level, it has remained under 8 per cent. The unemployment scenario in July is relatively better than the previous three months when India battled the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. The progress of monsoon and the reopening of economic activity across formal and informal sectors have con- tributed to a comparatively better situation in July. In June, the monthly unemployment rate was 9.17 per cent at the national level, 10.07 per cent in urban India, and 8.75 per cent in rural India. ?=BQ 270=3860A7 Aday after Karnal Sub- Divisional Magistrate Ayush Sinha, a 2018 batch IAS officer, was caught on camera instructing policemen to “crack the heads” of farmers at a protest, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala on Sunday assured strict action against the officer. “The use of such termi- nology by an officer is con- demnable and action will def- initely be taken in this regard. Maintaining law and order is the job of the Government and the administration. The behav- iour of the SDM is contrary to the training of an IAS officer,” said Chautala while talking to mediapersons here. The statement came amid the Opposition’s mounting attack against the BJP-JJP led Haryana Government after the brutal lathi-charge on farmers in Karnal on Saturday. Reacting to the justification given by the SDM over the lan- guage used in the video, Dushyant, who is the JJP’s senior leader, said: “The expla- nation for the lathi-charge is that the officer did not sleep for two days. He should know that the farmer is unable to sleep 200 nights in 365 days of the year.” ?C8Q =4F34;78 Facing flak from Opposition parties for excluding Jawaharlal Nehru’s image from a poster celebrating the 75th year of independence, the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) said the con- troversy over the issue is “unnecessary” as other posters being released in the coming days will feature the first Prime Minister. “We are not trying to undermine anyone’s role in the movement,” a top ICHR official said, dismissing criti- cism on the issue, and added the poster was one of the many released as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. The Congress, however, questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue and demanded that he rise above his prejudices and intervene. Opposition parties had said the omission was deliberate. ICHR, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education, has been running a series of lectures and seminars on the theme of the Independence struggle under the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebration. “This is only one of the posters released as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav cel- ebrations. There will be sever- al others and Nehru will be fea- tured in them... Controversy around this is unnecessary,” the ICHR official said. FDeRVd`feS`^SVc YVRUVUW`cRZca`ce 0LOLWDUVDVDLU VWULNHWDUJHWHG YHKLFOHORDGHG ZLWKH[SORVLYHV ?=BQ =4F34;78 In a significant development, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), chaired by India, has dropped a reference to the Taliban from an earlier paragraph in its statement that asked Afghan groups not to support terrorists “operat- ing on the territory of any o t h e r country”. India, which is the presi- dent of the Security Council for this month, signed off on the statement and issued it in its capacity as the chair for this month. On August 16, a day after the Taliban came to power in the country, the UNSC said, “The members of the Security Council reaffirmed the impor- tance of combating terrorism in Afghanistan to ensure the territory of Afghanistan should not be used to threat- en or attack any country, and that neither the Taliban nor any other Afghan group or individuals should support terrorists operating on the territory of any other country.” But on August 27, the UNSC removed reference to Taliban in the previous statement. ?=BQ =4F34;78 The rapidly changing situa- tion in Afghanistan after the Taliban take over is a “challenge” for India and the Government has been forced to rethink its strategy, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Sunday. Reflecting these concerns, senior commanders, including the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat and the three Services chiefs, are likely to review the situa- tion coming week. Apprehensions are that the Taliban fighters aided and abetted by Pakistan and equipped with the seized US weapons may foment trouble in Jammu Kashmir. In a related development, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday spoke to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and discussed the latest developments in Afghanistan. “Spoke to US Secretary of State Blinken. Continued our discussions on Afghanistan. Also exchanged views on the agenda of United Nations Security Council (UNSC),” Jaishankar tweeted. Expressing the concerns of the security establishment to the defence top brass, Rajnath said the changing equation in Afghanistan is a challenge. The country is now rethinking its strategy, he said while addressing the prestigious Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. He also said the recent developments resulted in India forging alliance with the coun- tries forming the Quad. It comprises the US, India, Japan and Australia. 6XUSULVHDV81QRWH RQ$IGURSV7ZRUG (FRQRPRSHQVEXW MREOHVVQHVVVWLOOULVHV F_V^a]`j^V_e fae`)Z_ 2fXRdRXRZ_de '*Z_;f]j ³CP[XQP]aXbTU^aRX]V8]SXPc^aTcWX]Z0U_^[XRh´ ?Vh5V]YZWVRcd ARSRTVU`feWZe ^RjeRcXVe; hZeYFDRc^d =ReYZYRaajD5Z_ d`faW`cµSfdeYVRUd `WWRc^Vcd¶`cUVc 2SSXSLQDUPV +DUDQD'0 SURPLVHVDFWLRQ 2WKHUSRVWHUVZLOO KDYH1HKUX¶VSKRWR ,+5WHOOV2SS 0UVWP]_T^_[TPaTbTT]X]bXSTPW^dbTPUcTaDBSa^]TbcaXZTX]:PQd[0UVWP]XbcP]^]Bd]SPh 0? Its ally, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), has also declared the candidature of its state unit president Jasvir Singh Garhi from Phagwara (reserved) assembly con- stituency. At the time when the rul- ing Congress is embroiled in severe infighting, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is in the hunt for its chief ministerial face, the SAD and BSP are step ahead in preparing for the crucial 2022 polls, slated to be held in about next six months. As of now, Akali Dal, which has already announced to contest next state assembly polls in alliance with BSP after breaking off its ties from the saffron party, has already announced more than a dozen candidates. Sukhbir Badal, who was in Bathinda as a part of SAD’s mass outreach programme, announced the candidature of former Minister Sikander Singh Maluka from Rampura Phul, Parkash Singh Bhatti from Bathinda Rural, and Darshan Singh Kotfatta from Bucho. However, Maluka refused to contest from Rampura Phul constituency after his name figured in the list of three can- didates, while maintaining that the ticket should be given to his son — Gurpreet Singh Maluka. He expressed interest in con- testing polls from Maur. Maluka, after his candida- ture for Rampura Phul seat was announced, said that his son Gurpreet Singh Maluka has been working in this con- stituency for the last one year and the ticket should be given to his son. He maintained that the party did not consult him before announcing his name for the Rampura Phul seat. At the same time, Maluka said that he should be fielded from Maur seat. Meanwhile, BSP declared its state unit chief Garhi as the candidate from Phagwara (reserved) assembly seat for the 2022 state polls, during its massive Alakh Jagao rally organised by BSP’s national coordinator Akash Anand, who is also the nephew of party supremo Mayawati. As per the seat-sharing arrangement between the SAD and BSP, the Mayawati-led BSP will fight 20 of the 117 assem- bly seats, while the rest will be contested by the Akali Dal. SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, several Akali MLAs and leaders, and BSP’s senior lead- ership, including party’s national vice-president Anand Kumar, were present on the occasion. Addressing the SAD-BSP rally, Sukhbir said that a “toofan” (storm) had begun blowing against the Congress government in Punjab. “SAD-BSP alliance has unnervedtheCongress,BJPand AAP...The next government will be of the SAD-BSP combine,” said Sukhbir. He also talked about SAD’s 13-point pro- gramme wherein it made poll promises, including free power up to 400 units per month for all households, slashing diesel price by Rs 10 a litre for agri- culture sector and reserving 75 per cent for Punjabi youths in private sector. Claiming that the SAD-BSP alliance will last for 25-40 years or more, he said that Akali Dal snapped ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) because it “stabbed” Punjabis and farmers in their back. He also cautioned voters against “frauds” of Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) national con- vener Arvind Kejriwal and also attacked Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh. Meanwhile, all leaders pre- sent at the rally flayed the use of ‘force’ by the Haryana police against farmers in Karnal on Saturday. They also delayed their arrival at the rally venue, respecting the two-hour block- ade called by Punjab farmers to protest the lathicharge against Haryana farmers. 1B?RWXTUc^ R^]cTbcUa^ ?WPVfPaP P[dZPaTUdbTb c^R^]cTbcfP]cb cXRZTcU^ab^] D25R__`f_TVd$^`cVTR_UZUReVd ?=BQ 270=3860A7 Amid the controversy over the amendment made by Haryana Government in land acquisition Act 2013, Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala on Sunday said that the opposition is misleading people regarding the amend- ed bill. “Nine months ago, the same opposition leaders were spreading confusion among the people regarding three laws related to agriculture made by the Central Government. The amended land acquisition bill will ensure smooth commence- ment and completion of linear development, and emergency projects in the state,” Dushyant said while talking to the mediapersons here. Haryana Assembly had last week passed The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Haryana Amendment) Bill, 2021. The Congress had staged a walk- out in protest of the passage of the Bill and announced to meet the Governor against it. The Deputy Chief Minister said that under the Act related to land acquisition, land has been acquired con- tinuously for various projects in the past, due to this, the matter was delayed in some courts and there was a need to make the present amendment. With the amendment of the bill, it will be easier to com- plete projects like water hous- es, grain markets, bridges, schools etc. in the state soon, he said. He said that the State Government is taking up var- ious projects on e-Bhoomi by taking land with the consent of the people. Since January 2021 till now, many farmers have given about 845 acres of land with their consent on the e-bhoomi portal for 49 pro- jects, for which the Government has paid about Rs 360 crore to the farmers, he added. The Deputy Chief Minister further informed that farmers have allotted 140 acres for AIIMS Rewari, 52 acres for Karnal airstrip, 46.9 acres for new watershed in Jind, 20 acres for sewerage treatment plant in Chautala village and new grain market on new national highway in Sirsa. Farmers have also given consent on the e-bhoomi por- tal for 56 acres, 40 acres of land for the bridge and road connecting Faridabad-Noida on Yamuna river in Faridabad district, he said. Govt assures all possible help to Afghan students Replying to a question on the volatile situation prevail- ing in Afghanistan, Dushyant said the students from Afghanistan will not face any problem related to studies, food or accommodation in Haryana. Necessary instructions in this regard have also been conveyed to vice-chancellors of universities. Till the time the situation normalises in Afghanistan, full cooperation will be extended to the stu- dents in terms of relaxations in fees and admission to courses, he said. “Out of the 31 students from Afghanistan enrolled in Kurukshetra University, 11 live on campus and of the 11 enrolled in MDU University, Rohtak, four live on campus,” he informed. “They are not just foreign students but guests of our country. If any student faces any problem, we are here to help them,” he added. Meanwhile, Dushyant announced that Bhavina Patel, who won a silver medal in the women's singles class 4 cate- gory of Table Tennis at the Tokyo Paralympic Games, would be given an amount of Rs 31 lakh from the Table Tennis Federation of India. Many women workers were later detained by the police. The women volunteers raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and the BJP, while the Chandigarh police used batons and water cannons to stop the protesters from going to enter the Punjab BJP office in Sector 37. AAP's women wing state president Rajwinder Kaur Thiara and youth leader Anmol Gagan Mann sustained serious injuries and had to be admit- ted to hospital. Mann said that due to the Narendra Modi-led Central Government, the BJP workers have turned into goons. “These BJP goons are abusing and physically assaulting women in Punjab and across the country. The State Governments are avoiding taking action against these goons,” she added. Thiara said that in the arrogance of power, the BJP’s goons have forgotten the coun- try's values. “Even the police of the ruling party are assuming the atrocities on women and the farmers as their achieve- ments,” she added. She alleged that the police responsible for protecting the citizens of the country are sup- porting the goons and the state and central women's commis- sions are keeping silent on women's issues. The Chandigarh police tried to stop the women vol- unteers on their way to the BJP office, but they broke through all the barriers and moved on. The Police used water cannons and cane-charged them; leav- ing many women injured, alleged Mann while adding that the police even kicked them in their stomach. ?=BQ 270=3860A7 Strongly condemning the indiscriminate caning of the farmers in Haryana and Punjab who were forced to protest againsttheanti-agricultureblack laws, the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Punjab unit on Sunday said that the spirit of dictator HitlerhadenteredtherulingBJP and the Congress that was why these governments want to sup- press the voice of the ‘annadatas’ under a repressive policy. AAP also declared coop- eration and support at all lev- els to the ‘Bharat Bandh’ call on September 25 against the Modi Government's stubborn stance on black farm laws. AAP’s Kisan Wing state president and MLA Kultar Singh Sandhwan directly blamed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for the indiscriminate violence against farmers in Haryana. “The BJP will have to pay the price for such a repressive policy of the government across the coun- try,” he said. Sandhwan said that the voice of ‘annadatas’ and any cit- izen of the country for their rights and interests could not be suppressed with canes, as the Constitution of India gives them the right to protest and raise their voice within the con- stitutional ambit for their rights; the Constitution, whose oath, the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister had taken before assuming their charge. “Therefore, the use of batons by the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Haryana along with the Chief Minister of Punjab, against the protesters is a direct violation of the Constitution,” he added. Lashing out at the Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, Sandhwan said that on one hand, the Congressmen were condemning the caning of the farmers by the Khattar Government and on the other hand, were cane-charging the farmers in Punjab. Condemning the cane-charge in Amritsar, Sandhwan asked Capt Amarinder and the entire Congress what was the differ- ence between the BJP and the Congress for suppressing the voice of the people with batons. Taking a dig at the ruling Congressmen, Sandhwan said that not a day goes by in Punjab without the Punjab Government harassing, abus- ing, and caning unemployed, doctors, nurses, teachers, employees, laborers and farm- ers along with other protesters. ?=BQ 270=3860A7 Haryana Government's Excise and Taxation Department has recorded an increase in revenue by 65 per- cent this year as compared to previous financial year. The use of this application will also help the police do away with the tedious practice of maintaining records in handwritten files, which are prone to damage and wear and tear. Once all the records are digitized, the cops will be able to access details about criminals on their mobile devices or computers without having to look for files manu- ally in police stations, police said. The Interoperable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) of the Ministry of Home Affairs also maintains records of criminals who have served jail terms. However, this new app of the Ranchi Police will also ease the process of main- taining vigilance on people with criminal records, police said. Cops, Saurav said, will pay regular visits to the peo- ple with criminal records, especially those who are like- ly to go down the path of crime again. This practice, he added, will keep the police updated about the role of habitual offenders and people with criminal records in plan- ning and perpetrating crimes. This application, which is yet to be named, was designed over a period of several months by IT experts from the Data Centre of Ranchi police. It was undergoing updates and was likely to be opera- tional soon, police said. This app shares some of its features from a software devel- oped by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Jharkhand police. IT experts of Ranchi police have added new features and updates to make the app more user-friendly and accessible from different devices, police said. Trends studied by the police have highlighted that criminals who have served jail terms are often arrested for perpetrating different crimes within a couple of years since their release. While some of them may succeed in eking out a living without breaking the law again, most of them end up choosing illegal means of making a living, a police official said. He said that even after the one-day Bandh, if the Government does not lis- ten to their voice, then a phased agitation will be launched. He was holding a meeting with shopkeepers’ union and various organisa- tions at Kesarwani Ashram on Sunday. The Organisation’s General Secretary said that there has been a decrease in the cases of Corona infection in the State. “In such a situation, the Government should open all the temples of the State. Due to the pandemic the temple is completely closed for the gen- eral devotees for the last two years. Due to this the shop- keepers, priests, gardeners and others who depend on the temple have reached the verge of starvation. The site has been opened for people of dif- ferent religions including bus operations, rail operations, theaters, goods at various places of pilgrimage in the Country,” he added. The world’s famous Baba Baidyanath temple is still closed for the general devotees. There is a demand of the Organisation that Baba Mandir should be opened because the livelihood of thou- sands of people depends on this temple and devotees also have great faith. Thakur said that if the Government does not announce the opening of the temple by Sunday night, then on Monday, Deoghar will remain closed. He said that the Government and administra- tion will be urged to open the Baba Mandir for the local peo- ple on the occasion of Janmashtami. Going back from his old stand, he said that if the Government does not open the temple, then he will not force- fully enter it. Preparations are being made to make the Deoghar Bandh called on Monday a success. Panda Dharmarakshini Sabha held a meeting with the priestly soci- ety on Sunday. At the same time, talks are being held with various business orga- nizations as well. On Saturday, a meeting was held with business organizations regarding this. The shocking thing is that the victim was gang raped by her friend, a munhbola brother and their friends. The FIR was lodged on Friday after the victim informed her family about this heinous crime. Among accused four are minors out of whom one is said to be the friend of the victim. Ranchi SP (Rural), Naushad Alam informed that on the basis of the statement of the victim an FIR was lodged under sections of IPC and POCSO Act. Besides, the med- ical test was also conducted upon the victim. Meanwhile, police have apprehended all four minor accused. Police said that the age determination test will also be conducted upon arrested accused to ascertain their age. Raids are going to arrest the remaining three accused. The initial investigation revealed that one of the minor accused, who was friends with the victim, asked her to come to a spe- cific location. The boy was waiting about half km away from her residence. When the victim came here, she found two other boys accompanying her friend. They forcefully took her to the forest where they snatched her mobile and raped one by one. She unsuccessfully tried to run away from their clutches. After two hours, they returned her mobile phone after which the victim called her munhbola brother. What she explained to the police was more shock- ing. That munh bola broth- er of the victim picked her from the forest and took her to his home for safety. But here she was raped by her munh bola brother and his three friends the whole night. In the morning she somehow managed to reach her home. According to police the victim, who is a student of class seventh came in touch with that minor during the marriage ceremony of her mausi held in March. They exchanged their contact number and began to talk. She said that he was insist- ing to meet her hence when he called her she agreed to meet unaware of his bad intention. Instead of one board exam at the end of the year, the academic session has been bifurcated into two terms with the board con- ducting Class 10 and 12 board exams at the end of each semester. Along with the two board exams, the exam pattern has also been changed. The exams will now be two-hour-long and contain multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Several states are of the opinion of changing examination pat- terns on the lines of CBSE. The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) is also think- ing of changing examination patterns on the lines of CBSE. The examination pattern will be changed in matriculation and intermediate examina- tion. The Department of School Education and Literacy has started its preparation. A pro- posal has been prepared in this regard. A final decision on the proposal is likely to be taken in a day or two. A senior offi- cial at the education depart- ment requesting anonymity said, “Due to Covid 19 pan- demic, the examination in matriculation and intermedi- ate in the state can also be taken in two phases on the lines of CBSE. Preparation for the first phase exam is going to take place in December while the second phase exam will be held in March.” The official further said that in an emergency situation arising due to the third phase of pandemic and in such a sit- uation if both the examina- tions could not be held due to Covid 19, then the result can be issued on the basis of one examination. The option of both online and offline exam- ination is being considered. If both the exams are conducted in online and offline mode then the importance of both will be the same. On the other hand, if one exam is conduct- ed online and the other offline mode, then the marks of the offline exam will give more weight-age. The JAC is making a change in examination pat- tern as this year the matricu- lation and intermediate exam- ination of the year 2021 was not held. The result of both the exams was prepared on the basis of the marks of class 9th and 11th of the year 2020. Apart from this JAC is also contemplating on cutting the syllabus of Class 9th to 12th. Syllabus can be cut up to 25%. The examination of the year 2022 will be taken on the basis of 75% syllabus only. ;24a]R_de`eRV^RecZT Z_eVcViR^dZ_#aYRdVd 0^]VPRRdbTS U^daPaTX]^ab ^dc^UfW^ ^]TXbbPXSc^QT cWTUaXT]S^UcWT eXRcX

DZWP]SS^X]V%[TbbcTbcb ?=BQ 347A03D= Unlike in the past two years, Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal 'Gama' has decided to restrict the period of 20 per cent rebate on property tax till September 30 and stated that it will not be extended further this year. Besides this, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will soon start setting up camps in the wards to maximise the recov- ery of the property tax. The corporation generally provides a rebate of 20 per cent in prop- erty tax submission till January but this year, the mayor has limited this period till September end. According to him, most of the taxpayers wait till the last month of the financial year to deposit the property tax and the collection remains quite less throughout the year despite the rebate facility. The last minute rush for tax submission by the public also increases the load on the tax section at that time because many still prefer offline tax submission. Considering this, 'Gama' said that the rebate for this financial year will be provided till September 30 and MCD has no plans to extend it. Though the corporation had set the target of collecting Rs 50 crore as property tax in each of the last two financial years, the MCD could collect only about Rs 45 crores and Rs 36 crores respectively. As per the officials, Covid- 19 has adversely affected the tax collection of MCD. This year too, the corporation has received property tax of about Rs four crores only. Since the revenue generated from tax col- lection is the main source of income for MCD, 'Gama' has directed the officials of the tax section to take steps to max- imise its recovery. He has ordered them to set up camps at ward levels to make the tax submission process easy for senior citizens and locals of remote areas. He has also asked the tax section to reserve the timing from 3 PM to 5 PM on weekdays for the councillors who bring tax slips of their ward members for tax submission. Besides this, the mayor has also directed the tax super- intendents to send the proper- ty tax bills to those who have not deposited the tax last year. “The proper tax collection is important for the corporation to carry out necessary devel- opment projects in the city. I have directed the tax section to work efficiently to maximise the recovery of tax from resi- dential as well as non-residen- tial property owners in Dehradun,” stated the mayor. 5HEDWHRQSURSHUWWD[ WRHQGRQ6HSWHPEHU 038C80AA0 As the pandemic situation currently finds itself on an “easy-go” mode, people stand divided. The urge to move around freely still tends to overpower the trauma of the previous and deadly wave, keeps us pulling in. This push and pull dynamic is keeping most of the population in limbo even though many restrictions have been lifted, including the crucial decision of reopening of schools in the state. Parents are utterly con- fused as they are stuck in the push and pull dynamic; the counsel of sending your child to school in order to encourage a sense of normalcy in the fam- ily dynamic as opposed to risking an infection of the virus. Just the simple act of your child- waking up to an alarm for school- may prove to be very helpful to bring back the simple rhythm of the body, which plays an important role in regulating our nervous sys- tem. The mistrust that the parental bodies are giving into and keeping their children at home, while schools make an effort to open their classrooms, may prove to be detrimental to their very critical develop- mental phases. To the parents who feel their child is vulner- able to the current scenario, it is vital that you take stock of your child’s holistic growth. This spectrum includes your child’s eating habits, emotion- al health, willingness to make friends and enthusiasm to innovate and indulge in cre- ativity. The lockdown periods could have provided parents with insights into their par- enting methods, identifying and correcting fault lines in order to create a climate of authenticity and safety. The question that now arises is that have the parents used the rest in periods to do a rain check on their methods of child rearing or has the atmos- phere between them and their children deteriorated? My expression, by no means is to belittle hard work- ing parents but to initiate the parent into the self parenting process that may help in decreasing the ever increasing gap between children and their caretakers and help the ado- lescent authenticate into a young adult. For all those who are wondering why this piece started with reopening of schools, the hesitation associ- ated with it and now is leading into parenting styles, is because it is difficult for a healthy fruit bearing tree to function autonomously; it needs the change in seasons, soil prop- erties, appropriate shade and shine, to ready a ripe and edi- ble fruit. Just like the tree a par- ent needs to be deep rooted for stability, have a flexible thought process, sway with the current times but not be uprooted emotionally by the pressures of the fast moving world. For parents to work on themselves, I suggest to get involved in the process of heal- ing through self awareness, try to identify your own parenting style. Are you an overly fussy parent, do you give in to aggression easily, have you continued a certain hobby despite being a full time parent or are you obsessively con- cerned about your appearance , can be some helpful markers to start your own inner work. I am confident that these simple markers and creating easy, organic questionnaires for yourself will give you a peek into your own structure and lead to a better understanding of your own family. With a surge in cases of panic, anxiety, ADHD and trauma in children, we psychotherapists are also sometimes at a loss for words and techniques, and look to the parents for co creating a ther- apeutic environment for the troubled child. With a self aware and an open parent in the picture from the start it would give us a quantum leap into giving us a better understanding of child behaviour but add to innovat- ing better treatment methods, to bring relief. According to medical experts, organ dona- tion can save several lives every year but due to the imbalance in demand and supply of organs, many lose their lives. Many remain reluctant to reg- ister for organ donation after their death due to various rea- sons but superstition is the prominent cause influencing most of the potential organ donors in the state. I would like to donate my organs after my death but I believe in rebirth and I do not want to be born without the donated organs in my next life, said 50 year old Haridwar res- ident Kasturi Rawat. There is also a section of people which is interested in being an organ donor but doubts whether their donated organs will be provid- ed to those in need. I have no qualms in saying that I do not have full faith in our health sys- tem and authorities. What is the guarantee that my donated organs will be provided to someone in need and will not be sold at higher profits to rich people? Such thoughts stop me from registering myself as an organ donor but I might do it in future, said 25 year old law student Dewas Verma. Besides this, there are many people who want to be an organ donor but are not aware of the process of getting registered as the donor. I would like to be an organ donor but I am not aware where and who I need to approach to be an organ donor, said Ramnagar resident Meena Khulbe. Informing about the organ donation process the state sec- retary of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Dr Ajay Khanna stated that organ dona- tion is a noble cause and sev- eral lives can be saved with a single person's donated organs but due to lack of awareness and certain cultural belief, not many come forward to be organ donors. He said that hardly one to two per cent of the state's pop- ulation register as organ donors which has started in the recent few years too. Khanna said that to be an organ donor, any adult aged 18 years to 75 years can register himself or herself as a donor in government hos- pitals like Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hos- pital in Dehradun. Organ donation can save several lives and people should come for- ward to give others a gift of life after they die, said the IMA secretary. 3HRSOHUHOXFWDQW WREHRUJDQGRQRUV LQ8WWDUDNKDQG ?=BQ 347A03D= The operator of a public toi- let at the old Tehsil premis- es, Sanjay Kumar has accused Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL) of constructing multi- ple smart toilets at the same location where many public toilets already exist. He alleged that the officials are wasting the government's money and resources in building smart toilets at such places where the people do not require them. Kumar said that he is operat- ing a public toilet in the premis- es of old Tehsil under public- private partnership (PPP) mode since the year 2002. He stated that he has signed a con- tract with Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA) for the operation of this public toilet till the year 2032 where he has also set up a biogas plant. Kumar alleged that DSCL has started con- structing a public toilet adja- cent to the toilet he manages and also damaged the biogas plant in the process. The pub- lic toilet I run is a 10 seat toi- let. There is another toilet a few metres away on Dispensary Road and another at Rajeev Gandhi complex. There are at least two more public toilets in the area and now another toi- let is being built just adjacent to this toilet. Out of these, three toilets are made under the smart city project. What is the use of so many toilets at a single loca- tion? Rather than building sev- eral toilets within a 50 metres range, the government should build toilets at such locations where no toilets are available for several kilometres, stated Kumar. He said that government agencies should focus on improving the condition of already existing toilets rather than building new multiple toilets within the same area. I use biogas generated through the biogas plant in the premis- es for cooking and electricity. It was set up in 2002 and it can easily cook food for about 60 people on a daily basis. Such measures can be adopted by agencies to capitalise on the use of public toilets rather than constructing new toilets blind- ly. It affects the business of operators like us whose liveli- hood depends on the daily col- lection of money from the public toilet. I have written to the district magistrate and state government regarding this issue but have not received any concrete response. I along with nearby locals recently staged a protest against the authorities too and we will protest again if this construc- tion will not be stopped soon, said Kumar. 4C3QSSecUT_V]Q[Y^W ]edY`Ud_YUdcQdcQ]U_SQdY_^ ?=BQ 347A03D= Following considerable infra- structural damage caused by days of heavy rains resulting in landslides and other inci- dents, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami undertook an aerial survey of the affected areas on Sunday. The minister further said that the state government is working to further strengthen the dairy cooperative commit- tees. Work is also underway to increase the incentive amount in order to facilitate this, she said. The minister also appealed to those in the dairy sector to work in the direction of breed improvement. She talked about artificial insemination achiev- ing 90 birthing of female calves, adding that Uttarakhand is on top among Indian states when it comes to this. She further exhorted all to become involved in fishery, dairy and animal husbandry to increase their own income and improve the economy. The local MLA Diwan Singh Bisht claimed that the state government is doing well when it comes to Aanchal dairy. He averred that Aanchal milk is making the people self reliant, adding that the youth should also adopt dairy as a business. The government is also pro- viding loans for such purposes. The people should derive the benefit of such governmental schemes, added the MLA. 0LQLVWHUODXQFKHV $DQFKDO3DKDGLFRZPLON C^QTP]^aVP] S^]^aP]hPSd[cPVTS 'hTPabc^$hTPab RP]aTVXbcTaWXbT[U ^aWTabT[UPbPS^]^a X]V^eTa]T]c W^b_XcP[b ?=BQ 347A03D= Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that 50 girls and boys each between eight and 14 years of age will be selected based on their potential and provided the chief m i n i s t e r ’ s s p o r t s p e r s o n upliftment schol- arship every year. A0:4B7:B8=67Q =4F34;78 Counter-terrorism experts here are not surprised at the ISIS (Khorasan) claiming responsibility for the August 26 blasts at the Kabul airport even as a second attack close to the airport in the Afghan Capital was reported on Sunday, turn- ing true the US’ alert about such a possibility. While the Afghan and Pakistan Taliban as also the ISIS (Khorasan) are all linked, Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has created the distinction to allow Taliban gain international recognition and subsequently, receive grants. In fact, the blasts at the Kabul airport could have been the handiwork of Afghan Taliban itself or executed by ISIS-K with knowledge of Taliban, in order to expedite the pending evacuation of for- eign nationals and terrorize the locals not to flock the airport, the experts suspect. Experts tracking develop- ments in Afghanistan said as many as 27 Taliban fighters were killed in the Kabul bomb- ings earlier this week but it con- veniently shifted the blame to ISIS-K as part of the larger ISI ploy of denying vio- lence since the Taliban has now wrested power from the erstwhile Abdul Ghani led gov- ernment. Both the Taliban and the ISI-K share similar ideolo- gy. The ISIS (Khorasan), also a splinter group and an exten- sion of the Taliban, will be used by the ISI for the abduction of foreign nationals still working on pending projects there. The ISI will then offer to broker ransom deals with the ISI-K and extort hefty sums of money for such abducted foreigners, sources said. In addition, the ISIS (Khorasan) will also be used for legitimising the drug money generated from the opium car- tel operating out of Taliban under the patronage of ISI through its terror affiliates like the Lashkar-e-Tayabba and Jaish-e-Mohammad as also Taliban, they said. Counter-terrorism expert Dr Rituraj Mate told The Pioneer, “The discrimination between the Taliban and ISI-K and portrayal of their separate identities is an ISI conspiracy to allow Taliban the elbow room to collect funds from white chan- nels like international funding agencies and for evading scruti- ny from the FATF. The ISI-K will be in charge of the dirty games of generat- ing funds from illegal drugs trade and extortion bids as also to perpetrate killings and bombings.” Assessments here suggest the tacit understanding and coordination between the Taliban and the ISI-K could also be unraveled as the former swiftly took control of Nangarhar, one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, from the latter that controlled the area. However, it cannot be ruled out that ISI-K could be seeking its share of the spoils of the capture of Afghanistan by Taliban that is yet to form a governance mechanism for cooperation in takeover of Nangarhar. Counter-terrorism expert of Afghan origin and founder of the Afghanistan Republican Salvation Front, Ajmal Sohail, said, “The control of Kabul and the airport there rests with the Haqqani Network, so the attacks on Kabul airport being blamed on the ISI-K could just be an eyewash and could be a result of some behind-the- scenes negotiations between the CIA and Taliban in the run- up to the Kabul bombings.” The August 26 blasts have so far claimed 170 lives even as the US has claimed to have killed the ISIS-K planner behind the bombing in a retal- iatory drone strike. µ3]RdedZ_RSf]T`f]UYRgV SVV_YR_UZh`c`WER]ZSR_¶ ?=BQ =4F34;78 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded the experimental zeal of today’s Indian youth who, he said, is ready to choose a ‘new and unknown goal’ and determined to achieve it, be it in science, business, sports or any other field. “India’s youth is giving emphasis to quality. Today’s youth does not want to walk on the pre-decided road. They want to step into the unknown world. Their destination is new, their goal is new, their path is new and their desire is new. Once our youth gets determined, they work hard to achieve that goal. They start working day and night on it,” the Prime Minister said in his monthly radio talk ‘mann ki baat’, “Not long ago, India opened its space sector and on seeing that, the youth of our generation grabbed the oppor- tunity and benefitted from it. The students of colleges, uni- versities and young people working in the private sector stepped forward as well. I am sure that in the coming days, a large number of such satellites will be used by our youth. Our students, our colleges, our uni- versities, students are working in labs in this regard,” Modi said. Similarly, he said, the recent Olympic performance has been fired by Indian youth and cited Indian hockey men’s winning prize in Tokyo. Modi said the passion for sports in the youth of the country at the present times is the greatest tribute to hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand. “Irrespective of the number of medals won, no citizen of India enjoys victory until a medal is won in hockey. And this time, in the Olympics, the medal that was won for hock- ey came our way after four decades,” he said. “This time, Olympics have created a major impact. The events at the Olympics are over; the Paralympics are going on. Whatever our country earned in this world of Sports may be little in comparison with the world, but enough has happened to bolster our belief,” Modi said. Modi on Sunday also spoke to Para table tennis player Bhavina Patel, 34, and con- gratulated her on winning a sil- ver medal at Tokyo Paralympics. “In the country now, sports and games sportsman spirit is not to stop. In family life, in social life, in the life of the Nation, this momentum has to be accorded permanence…infusing it with energy…replenishing it with relentless new energy,” he said. Continuing to speak on Indian youth, Modi said they have also made big global impact on the toy industry that has a huge market of around C 6 to 7 lakh crore. He said that youth today is focussing on improving the processes, variety and tech- nology in toy-making and experimenting with new things. The Prime Minister extended greetings on Krishna Janmashtami and urged the countrymen to carry forward the great traditions of the nation. He said about 3-4 kilome- tres away from Somnath tem- ple there is the Bhalka Teerth which which is the place where Lord Krishna spent his last moments on earth. He further mentioned Jadurani Dasi, a US citizen who he said is an American and is connected to ISKCON Hare Krishna movement and one of her major specialities is that she is skilled in Bhakti Arts. He said it is ‘our responsibility’ to pre- serve culture and traditions. =_TYQeTcUh`UbY]U^dQ jUQ_V9^TYQ^i_edXc ?=BQ =4F34;78 The India Meteorological Department (IMD) data has shown that rainfall in August has been deficient by 26 per cent so far, with shortfalls in two successive months triggering fear of a below normal monsoon this year. The rainfall in July was seven per cent less than nor- mal. “August recorded 26 per cent deficiency till yesterday (August 28),” IMD Director General Mrutunjay Mohapatra said, adding that the shortfall has been recorded in north and central India. June recorded 10 per cent more rainfall. The IMD will soon release a fore- cast for September, he said. Presently, of the 694 dis- tricts, 251 witnessed deficient rainfall or drought like situa- tion due to lack of rainfall. India received 630 mm rainfall as against the normal of 696.6 mm since the onset of the southwest monsoon on June 1, a deficiency of 10 percent. Punjab, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Lakshadweep are among the rain deficient States and Union Territories. The shortfalls in two suc- cessive months in the four- month Southwest Monsoon season from June 1 to September 30 have triggered fear of a below normal mon- soon this year. The IMD had earlier pre- dicted a normal monsoon this year. Skymet Weather, a private weather forecasting agency, has downgraded their forecast to a “below normal” mon- soon this year. According to the IMD data, the country received 10 per cent less rainfall from June 1 to August 28. The IMD had predicted normal rainfall for August (94 to 106 per cent of Long Period Average or LPA), but it appears that the forecast will be off the mark. Rainfall over the country as a whole during the second half (August to September) of the 2021 Southwest Monsoon season is most likely to be normal with a tendency to be in the positive side of the nor- mal, the IMD had said earlier this month. The IMD has four meteo- rological divisions covering different parts of the country. The northwest India which covers the north Indian plains and the hill states has record- ed 13 per cent less rainfall than normal. The central India division which encompasses Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Maharashtra has recorded 14 per cent deficiency. The east and northeast India division that includes Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and the northeastern states has recorded eight per cent deficiency. The south peninsula divi- sion which covers all the southern states has recorded 5 per cent more rainfall than normal. ?=BQ =4F34;78 Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech is seeking inter- national manufacturing part- ners as it targets a billion doses of its Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin each year even as the first commercial batch of the jab was released on Sunday by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya from the pharma company’s new plant at Ankleshwar in Gujarat’s Bharuch district. The jabs man- ufactured at Ankleshwar facil- ity will be available for supply starting September 2021. Covaxin is one of the five vaccines that have been approved for emergency use approval in India. However, Bharat Biotech has struggled to boost output, missing supply commitments to the Indian government. “We want to ensure that Bharat Biotech can ably meet the demand for Covaxin such that individuals across the country, and the globe, have access to the vaccine,” the com- pany’s chairman and managing director Krishna Ella said in a statement here. On Sunday, the company rolled out the first batch of Covaxin shots from a facility in Ankleshwar in western India that has the capacity to produce more than 1 crore doses per month. After the launch, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said: “We want to ensure equitable access of the vaccine to every Indian citizen, and the expansion of Covaxin production facilities by Bharat Biotech will take us closer to this goal.” He took to Twitter to talk about the importance of vacci- nation drive in fighting the pandemic and said the launch “will increase the supply of vaccine in the country and will help in reaching the vaccine to every Indian.” Bharat Biotech has already deployed multiple production lines at its Hyderabad, Malur, Bengaluru, and Pune campus- es. “We want to ensure that Bharat Biotech can ably meet the demand for Covaxin such that individuals across the coun- try, and the globe, have access to the vaccine and can secure their health and safety. Our goal to develop a vaccine with glob- al safety and efficacy standards has now been achieved, we are now marching towards the goal of the annualised capacity of one billion doses,” said Ella. Presently major share of Covid-19 vaccination drive is being handled by the Serum Institute of India which has pro- vided over 55 crore Covishield jabs with Bharat Biotech lagging far behind by contributing just over 7 crore jabs of Covaxin till now since January 16 when the national programme was launched. ?=BQ =4F34;78 Eighteen months since they stopped, there is no sign of resumption of international flights from India even as there is now an apprehension of a third wave of coronavirus. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Sunday extended the suspen- sion on international sched- uled commercial flights till September 30 owing to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic. The ban was to end on August 31. “In partial modification of circular dated 26-06-2020, the competent authority has further extended the validity of circular issued on the subject cited above regarding Scheduled International com- mercial passenger services to/from India till 2359 hrs IST of September 30, 2021,” the DGCA circular said. “However, international scheduled flights may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on a case-to-case basis,” it added. However, the restriction does- n’t apply to international all- cargo operations as well as flights specifically approved by the DGCA. Scheduled international passenger flights were suspended in India on March 23 due to the coron- avirus pandemic. But special international flights have been operating under the Vande Bharat Mission since May 2020 and under bilateral “air bubble” arrangements with selected countries since July 2020. India has formed air bubble pacts with around 25 countries including the US, the UK, the UAE, Kenya, Bhutan and France. Under an air bubble pact between two countries, special international flights can be operated by their airlines between their territories. However, some countries that had ‘air bubble’ arrangements with India banned air travel to and from the country at the peak of the second wave. These countries were Australia, Canada, Bangladesh, Germany, France, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Italy, Kuwait, Iran, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Singapore. While some countries lift- ed the ban later, many others are yet to do so. The UK recently elevated India to its amber list of countries. The elevation means travellers from India no longer have to undergo institutional quar- antine upon entering the country. Meanwhile, after a long hiatus, flights between India and Bangladesh will resume from September 3, 2021. The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) said that passenger airlines can resume opera- tions after four months under an air bubble agreement signed by the two countries last year. “The air bubble may be resumed w.e.f. 03.09.21 till resumption of scheduled International passenger flights,’ MoCA letter read. Sri Lanka has also decided to resume flight from nine cities in India. 7_RQS_]]UbSYQVYWXdc cec`U^TUTdYCU`d# 2^ePgX]PZTabTTZbX]c[_Pac]Tabc^PZTQX[[X^]S^bTb ?=BQ =4F34;78 If India is to safeguard its peo- ple’s lives, particularly chil- dren, from the looming crisis of deadly non communicable diseases (NCDs), it needs to urgently and mandatorily adopt front-of-pack warning labels (FOPL) on all ultra processed foods (UPF), health experts said here on Friday. They have reasons. According to Euromonitor esti- mates, the sale of UPF has increased from 2 kg per capita in 2005 to 6kg in 2019 and is expected to grow to 8kg in 2024. Similarly, beverages have gone up from less than 2 Litres in 2005 to about 8 Litres in 2019 and are expected to grow to 10 Litres in 2024. Unchecked consumption of these UPF is leading the country’s youth to overweight and obesity. At a webinar held here to discuss the issue threadbare, experts felt that though simple consumer-friendly moves, FOPL can allow for a paradigm shift in the food consumption pattern of the country and as a result, avert an impending NCD crisis, saving many lives. “Right-to-health is a fun- damental right of every person. Therefore in Indian context, states are required to adopt reg- ulatory measures such as front- of-package warning labelling on foods and beverages con- taining excessive amounts of wasteful nutrients such as sugar to tackle the rising burden of obesity and NCDs,” said Dr.Suneela Garg, President , Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM), at the webinar. Presenting evidence from around the world, Neha Khandpur, faculty of public health from University of Sao Paulo, Brazil’s Centre for Nutrition informed, “Warning labels have consistently been shown to be most effective at improving consumer under- standing, at influencing their purchase decisions and at sup- porting healthy food choices. They also are most likely to encourage product reformula- tion. Warning labels are the strongest nutrient-based label that India should consider implementing”. Dr Arun Gupta , convenor of Nutrition Advocacy in Public Interest (NAPi), a national think tank working on nutrition policy, said, “This is happening at a time when India is showing a tremendous rise in sales of UPF items both in the category of food and bev- erages. ³5?;RP]P[[^f U^aP_PaPSXV bWXUcX]cWTU^^S R^]bd_cX^] _PccTa]´ ?=BQ =4F34;78 Ayurvedic poly-herbal for- mulation, Neeri-KFT, has the potential to not only slow down the progression of chron- ic kidney disease (CKD) but also restore normalcy in func- tional parameters of the vital organ, a team of researchers has claimed. Their review is pub- lished in the latest edition of Saudi Journal of Biological Sciences. They concluded that “Phytopharmacological evalua- tion of Neeri-KFT suggests that it exhibit substantial potential against oxidative and inflam- matory stress induced apopto- sis by exerting antioxidant, nephroprotective and immunomodulatory effects…in the patients associated with renal dysfunction or chronic kidney disease (CKD).” The Neeri-KFT, a herbal medicine extracted from plants has been found to correct oxida- tive as well as inflammatory stress known for reducing body’s immunity, said the authors after drawing data on the formulation for kidney ail- ments from more than five electronic databases such as Science Direct, Google Scholar, Elsevier, PubMed, Springer, ACS publication from pub- lished database between 2000 and 2020. The study, ‘A systematic review on nephroprotective AYUSH drugs as constituents of NEERI-KFT’ also highlighted the herbal drug’s efficacy in reducing “serum creatinine, blood urea, and serum uric acid as compared to placebo group” and described “its well-tolerat- ed effect with no adverse hema- tological or biochemical abnor- malities occurred to any subjects during clinical trial.” “It can be suggested that NEERI-KFT can be an alterna- tive and complementary thera- py at end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or complete loss of kidney function where frequent dialysis of renal transplant remains only a single option for continued survival CKD patients,” researchers noted. KK Sharma, MD of the AIMIL Pharma explained that the herbal formulation com- prised of “herbal extracts of more than twenty different potent medicinal plants like Haridra, Varuna, Shirish, Gokhru, Punarnava and Anantamul to name a few, known for their Nephro Corrective, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and reparative regeneration of kid- ney cells.” Head of BHU’s Department of Dravyaguna, Dr K N Dwivedi, felt that the herbal ingredients in Neeri-KFT are loaded with many anti-oxidants besides medicinal values which not only strengthen kidney but liver also. “This is a very unique drug and we have found it very effective in our study also,” he added. As per the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 2021, 15% of adults and 14% of women are estimated to have CKD which is associated with a high prevalence of risk factors in the patients such as hypertension, diabetes and depression. ::BWPaP3^U cWT088;?WPaP Tg_[PX]TScWPccWT WTaQP[U^ad[PcX^] R^_aXbTS^UWTaQP[ TgcaPRcb^U^aT cWP]!SXUUTaT]c _^cT]cTSXRX]P[ _[P]cb =TTaX:5CaTbc^aTbSPPVTSZXS]Th)BcdSh 83)APX]UP[[X]0dVdbc STUXRXT]cQh!% 4g_TacbU^aPS^_cX]V Ua^]c^U_PRZ[PQT[b^] P[[_a^RTbbTSU^^Sb

Kerala Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA), the biggest apolit- ical organization of doctors working in the Government service fired the first salvo on Sunday about the impending agitations. “We are overworked, exhausted, tired and being over-exploited by the authori- ties. On an average, more than a hundred medical staff get afflicted with Covid-19 every day as doctors, nurses and other supporting staff are forced to work without break,” said Dr G S Vijayakrishnan and Dr T N Suresh, president and general secretary respectively of the KGMOA on Sunday. The doctors said that despite their pleas to the Government, especially the Chief Minister, during the last 18 months highlighting the shortcomings faced by the pub- lic health sector in the State, the Government has not done any- thing to resolve the issues. Meanwhile the sit- uation has gone from bad to worse with more and more doctors coming under attack from the patients as well as their relations for no fault of the doctors or the hospital staff. “The Government is duty bound to adopt policy deci- sions which would strengthen the health infrastructure, retain and encourage the services of doctors with professional expe- rience in public health,” said the statement. They pointed out that instead of strengthening the public health sector, what the Government has done during the last 18 months was to weaken the sector beyond recognition. “Public health sec- tor in Kerala is crumbling and fretting day by day. The Government, instead of taking steps to strengthen the sector is allowing it to get disintegrated day by day. What has happened is that most of the doctors who are frontline warriors in the fight against Covid-19 have got afflicted with the pandemic of course through contacts,” said the statement. The doctors as well as their family members are falling victims to Covid-19, they said. “While other States in India are in the forefront to help and inspire the doctors by hiking salaries, perks and risk allowances, the Kerala Government has cut down the remuneration and done away with risk allowances and the insurance safety net . Our requests to recruit 1,000 doc- tors, at least on temporary scale, have fallen on deaf ears,” rue the doctors asso- ciation. An office bearer of KGMOA said that Health Minister Veena George deny- ing in the floor of the Legislative Assembly about physical assaults on doctors was proof of how indifferent the Government is towards their grievances. The statement further said that the Government instead of encouraging the good works done by the doctors fraternity have drastically deducted their entry level pay and cut short whatever little allowances they were getting. Aligarh:Wildlife lovers group SAVE NGO of Aligarh urged devotees of Lord Krishna not to use peacock feathers for decoration in this Janmashtmi. The feather of national birds is widely used during the festival for decoration purpose. However, Wild lovers have appealed those devotees instead of buy- ing peacock feathers every years to add ambi- ence and appeal to the decor, should preserve the same and use it, as and when required. Traders are also using the images of lord Krishna which symbolizes love towards animals and restrict the purchase of peacock feathers. The demand of peacock feather already rises by leaps and bounds during the festive seasons. The huge demand for peacock feather endangers the existence of national bird. Dr Shilpi Gupta office bearer of Save N G O revealed that price of peacock feath- er has already escalated by 200%. They expressed fear that rise in demand will lead to illegal smuggling of feather. To protect the national bird from extinction, it is the duty of every resident to ensure effective preser- vation of feather and use it according. Aligarh traders are not behind, in this noble cause this Janmashtmi a group of traders are on a special drive to save the national bird- peacock. Selling decorative items for Janmastmi is a whole time job for Ram pal singh since 15 years and he travels across four states to purchase the best and attractive items for dec- oration. This year he decided not to sell pea- cock feathers so as to save our national bird. He said peacock is our national bird so it is our moral duty to save it. So we have decid- ed not to sell peacock feathers in this Janmashtmi and traders appealed to all cit- izen of Aligarh not to use peacock feathers for decoration in the interest of the country heritage. PNS Lucknow: Ayodhya is nothing without Lord Ram, President Ram Nath Kovind said on Sunday as he visited the city, where a Ram temple is under construction. Without Ram, Ayodhya is not Ayodhya. Ayodhya exists where there is Ram. Lord Ram resides permanently in this city, and hence in the true sense, this place is Ayodhya, the president said while inaugurating a Ramayan conclave there. He was also scheduled to visit the Ram Janmabhoomi construction sitewherethetem- ple is coming up, after a historic verdict by the Supreme Court in 2019. Apparently referring to his name, Kovind said, I feel that when my family members named me, they were possibly havingthefeeling ofrespectand affection towards Ram Katha and Lord Ram, which is seen in the common public. Elaborating further on Ayodhya, the President said, Theliteral meaningofAyodhya is the one with whom it is impossible to wage a war. Owingtothecourageandpower of Raghuvanshi kings Raghu, Dileep, Aj, Dashrath and Ram, their capital was considered unconquerable. Therefore, the name of this city as 'Ayodhya' will always remain relevant. Highlighting the love of Lord Ram towards tribals, he said, During his days of exile, Lord Ram did not call armies of Ayodhya and Mithila to fight the war. He gathered the Kols, Bheels, Vaanars and formed his army. In his campaign, he included 'Jatayu (vulture)'. He strengthened love and friend- ship with the tribals. PTI ‘Srinagar: The Jammu Kashmir Police is cracking down on cyber terrorists, also known as white-collar jihadis, as it feels that they are the worst kind of terrorists who remain anonymous but cause an immeasurable amount of damage and brainwashing of youngsters, officials said here. According to an assessment provided by Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Dilbag Singh, senior army officers and officials from the security establishment, there is a fear that these white-collar jihadis could trigger a communal clash or influence some youths by manipulating news on social media while they themselves live comfortably in faraway countries. The battleground is new where con- ventional weaponry and the fighting zones of a warren of narrow streets and forests are replaced by computers and smartphones to wage war from just about anywhere -- in Kashmir or outside, safe inside their homes or out on the streets, from a nearby café or even just a convenient roadside. A senior army officer termed them white-collar jihadis who mislead the youth and general population by peddling lies on social media and twisting the situa- tion to suit the separatists or terrorist groups. The Jammu and Kashmir Police recent- ly arrested five suspected white-collar jihadis who were behind a campaign to spread falsehood about the sovereignty of the country. They, according to the police, were tasked with preparing a strategic hit list of government officers, journalists, social activists, lawyers and political functionar- ies to instil fear among people. A cyber terrorist is actually deadlier than an actual terrorist because first, he is in hiding and second, he is absolutely unknown -- unknown till you get into cer- tain very specific details, DGP Singh said. It is very difficult to find out those kinds of details to locate them and who is actually using that particular identity in the virtual world. People have taken advantage of anonymity in the cyber world and that is why they indulge in such kinds of activ- ities, he said. Singh has been laying special empha- sis on putting a check on cyber terrorists as he feels that they are the worst kind of ter- rorists (as) they are not seen but the amount of damage they do and the amount of pollution of the mind of the youth they do are immeasurable. He says they are the people who are responsible for recruitment, they are the ones who would make some sort of com- ments and statements on social media which would create a communal wedge between various communities, between Hindus and Muslims and others. Therefore, taking care of them and hit- ting them is very very important so we are working on that front and achieved some success in some areas. More work and more focussed work is needed. We will continue to do whatever is needed in this regard, Singh told PTI recently. The police chief cited an encounter ear- lier this year in Nowgam and said sudden- ly there was a tweet claiming that a minor- ity community person had given informa- tion about terrorist presence there to the security agency. Raut, the executive editor of the party mouth- piece “Saamana”, said in his weekly column that apart from Maharashtra BJP leaders Devendra Fadnavis and Chandrakant Patil, Central leaders like BJP pres- ident JP Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah had reportedly called up Rane to express their support to him. If this is true then it is an insult to Maharashtra's self-respect and pride. Why does Delhi stand in sup- port of those who insult Maharashtra's pride and self-respect? Raut asked. Rane, a BJP MP, was arrested on August 24 after his would have slapped Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for the latter's ignorance of the year of India's independence remarks kicked up a huge row. The remarks triggered violent protests by Shiv Sena cadres who vandalised offices of BJP in some cities and clashed with supporters of Rane. In the write-up, Raut accused Rane and his sons- former MP Nilesh Rane and BJP MLA Nitesh Rane- of using derogatory and unParliamentary language against the Sena leadership. A Union Minister speaks of slapping the state's chief minister and BJP leaders look around helplessly, he wrote. Raut expressed surprise over BJP leaders terming Rane's arrest, which he said was done legally, unconstitutional. Nobody has the right to insult the posts of PM, President and Chief Minister. Rane has been committing this crime often. If anybody thinks that taking action in this regard is a crime, then it is like belittling the Constitution, he said. Raut stated that Rane's sons have damaged the political career of their father the most. Fadnavis and Chandrakant Patil (Maharashtra BJP chief) will meet the same fate due to the sons of Rane, he said. PTI C=A067D=0C70Q D108 In a development that the ruling Shiv Sena linked to Union Minister Narayan Rane’s recent arrest, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Sunday summoned Sena leader and State Transport Minister Anil Parab for questioning on Tuesday. Notwithstanding Shiv Sena’s spokesperson Sanjay Raut’s allega- tion linking the ED summons to Rane’s arrest during the latter’s recent “Jan Ashirward Yatra”, offi- cial sources said that Parab had been summoned for questioning in connection with the allegations of corruption made incarcerated police officer Sachin Vaze against Parab. Disclosing that ED had summoned Parab to appear before it for questioning, Raut tweeted: “Shabhaas! As expected, the ED has issued a notice to Parab as soon as Rane’s Jan Sangarsh Yatra ended. The government above (Centre) has got down to work now. Epi-centre of the earthquake was Ratnagiri. Parab is the guardian Minister of Ratnagiri district. You should understand the chronology. We will fight the battle in the courts”. On his part, Leader of Opposition in the State Legislative Council Pravin Darekar of the BJP denied Raut’s allegations and said the ED notice could in no way be linked with the recent political turmoil witnessed during Rane’s “Jan Ashirward Yatra” the ED must have been based on a complaint lodged with the central investigat- ing agency against him. It may be recalled that Rane was arrested at Sangamner in Ratnagiri district on August 24 for his “tight- slap” remark against Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray. However, Rane was granted bail by a Mahad court on the same night. Following Rane’s arrest, the BJP had charged that Parab, as a guardian minister of Ratnagiri dis- trict, had mounted pressure on the district police administration to arrest Rane. The principal opposi- tion party had also demanded a CBI probe into a CBI probe into a video clip that purportedly showed the minister speaking to a senior police official and asking the latter to arrest Rane. Rane resumed his “Jan Ashirward Yatra” from Ratnagiri on August 27. While Rane threatened to unravel the mystery surround- ing the deaths of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s ex-manager Rajput Disha Salian and Tik-Tok star Pooja Chavan, and “expose” the two MVA minis- ters’ role in the two deaths. Rane continued to target the Sena and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray while Raut wondered why BJP was “shielding’ the Rane family. During the course of his yatra, Rane had gone on record saying that several MVA leaders are on the radar of the ED and CBI and tough times awaited for the Shiv Sena-led MVA government. However, informed sources in the ED said that the summons issued to Parab related to an alle- gation that Vaze had made in April this year that the minister had asked him to collect Rs 50 crore to close a preliminary inquiry against Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust (SBUT). It may be recalled that in a four- page hand written letter to the Special Judge of the NIA court on April 7, 2021 Vaze – who is cur- rently in the central investigating agency’s custody in the twin SUV planting and alleged Manshukh Hiran murder cases – had claimed that Parab had called him July- August, 2020 to his official bun- galow and look into a complaint concerning the Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust (SBUT), which was under preliminary enquiry and asked him to bring the SBUT trustees to him for negotiations about the enquiry. “He ( Parab) also insisted to ini- tiate primary talks to get Rs.50 crore from the SBUT in order to close the said enquiry. I had expressed my inability to do any such things as I do not know anyone from the SBUT and also I did not have any control over the enquiry,” Vaze contended in his letter to the NIA court. Even at that time, Raut had defended Parab by charging that “a new letter writing trend” had start- ed in the state to destabilise the MVA government by writing letters from behind the bars. Mitra claimed that though she had resigned as a Trinamool Congress MLA in 2014, she had never officially quit the party. My husband was made the state Congress chief but I had taken a break from active politics. I was touched by the warmth and simplicity of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who called me up and requested me to be an active TMC worker. I decided that if I join active politics again, it has to be under her, she told reporters. Responding to a query why she had resigned as a TMC MLA seven years ago, Mitra said, Differences crop up at times but those have been resolved. Mamata Banerjee had called me up after my husband's death and I have always been on cordial terms with her. The BJP had nominated Mitra as a party candidate for the Chowringhee assembly seat in Kolkata in this year's assembly elections but she had declined to contest it. Speaking on the incident, she said, I have always believed that the BJP is a communal party. TMC MP Mala Roy and Chowringhee's party MLA Nayna Bandyopadhyay welcomed Mitra and two local Congress leaders into the party at its headquarters Trinamool Bhavan.
