2. Types of Rocks
• There are 3 types of rocks:
1.Igneous
2.Metamorphic
3.Sedimentary
3. Igneous Rocks
• Igneous rocks are formed when magma
reaches the earth’s surface; cools and
hardens.
• Examples of igneous rocks are granite
and basalt
6. Metamorphic rock
• Inside of the earth is like an oven. Heat
inside the Earth ‘bakes’ rocks and
changes the minerals in them.
• These changed rocks are called
metamorphic rocks.
• An example of a metamorphic rock is
marble.
8. Sedimentary rock
• Sediments are rocks and minerals
particles that settles in a liquid
• Sedimentary rocks are made up of
layers of sediments, small pieces of
rocks, or the skeletons of tiny creatures
• Sedimentary rocks are formed by
sediments that are deposited over a
period of time, usually at the bottom of
lakes and ocean.
9. • An example of sedimentary rocks are
chalk and limestones.
