The goals of INFLIBNET are to automate libraries, create union catalogs of documents, promote digitization of documents and open access repositories, and provide efficient access to knowledge and electronic resources. DELNET was established in 1988 as a library network in Delhi and has expanded nationally and internationally, connecting over 6,930 libraries. It aims to promote resource sharing through services like a union catalog of over 3.5 crore book records, a union list of current periodicals with over 1 lakh titles, and document delivery.

2. Developing Library Network
(DELNET)

3. Introduction
 DELNET was established in 1988 as city based library network in Delhi, and was
popularly known as Delhi Library Network, networking the libraries of the Delhi.
 Got registered as a society in 1992. On 13th September 2000, Delhi Library
Network – DELNET became DELNET-Developing Library Network.
 DELNET with passage of time and technological advancements not only widened
its scope but has crossed the geographical boundaries.
 Presently, it is the major resource sharing library network in India connecting
more than 6930 national libraries in 33 States and Union Territories in India and 22
member library from other countries.

4. Objectives
 The main objectives of DELNET is to promote resource sharing among the member-libraries by
collecting, storing and disseminating information and by providing networked services to the
researchers and scholars to supplement their research activity.
 Undertake scientific research in Information Science and Technology
 Coordinate with other regional, national and international networks and libraries to exchange
information
 Technical guidance to the member-libraries
 Collection development
 Establishment of referral and /or research centres
 Maintain a central online union catalogue for participating libraries
 Development of specialized bibliographic database

publications .
 Inter library loan (ILL) & Document Delivery Services (DDS)etc.

6. Union Catalogue of Books :-
 DELNET provides access to 3,52,45,416 bibliographic records of books in English
script available with various member libraries located in and outside the country.
 The databases can be accessed and retrieved by any of the desired fields including Title,
Author, Subject, Date of Publication.
 The database size grows with each passing day as more and more data from the member
libraries are being merged in the centralized union catalogues.
 Through these services, the researchers and scholars of the member libraries are able to
get and refer to the books which are not readily available in their own libraries, at times,
the books are out of print and are not even available in the market.

8. Union List of Current Periodicals
 DELNET is maintaining an online union list of current journals available in the
fields of Science and Technology, Social Sciences and Humanities.
 This database has now 1,04,569 titles of current journals available in member as
well as non member libraries of DELNET.
 The information about the availability of the current journals is of great help for
the document delivery services.
 The photocopies of journal articles are arranged from the libraries and supplied to
the requesting libraries.

10. Database of Thesis and Dissertations :-
 This database contains around 1,30,753 Thesis and Dissertations
submitted to various Universities and Institutions.

 WEL is one of the Asia’s largest collection of Primary Sources of
eBooks (41,86,185 )
 It’s a paid service & cost approx more than INR 1 Lakh
