annual report for 2013-14.In this demanding world,
challenge is a basic ingredient of success and we have
to remain competitive and profitable in the current
context of free flow of technology, fast paced information
dissemination and unrelenting competition. We have
to therefore enhance our competitiveness, adhere to
global bench marking and ensure optimal efficiency
in utilization of resources.

6. Alongside contributing to India's growth
story the company is driving an ambitious
global expansion plan with its sights set
on emerging as a leading transnational
business group. The company continues
to capitalise on opportunities in high growth
markets, expanding its core areas and
diversifying into new businesses. In Oman
(Middle East), the company has set up a
US$-500-million, 1.5-MTPA gas-based
Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) plant. It is now
adding a 2-MTPA steel-making facility.
In Africa, the company has large mining
interests in South Africa, Mozambique,
Namibia, Botswana and Mauritania and

7. THE BARBIL UNIT (Pelletization Plant)
The pellet plant operates on
hematite iron ore fines having
8% - 9 % moisture and is
transported from various
sources to raw material storage
yard at pellet plant site. Iron ore
fines from raw material storage
yard are conveyed to the iron
ore silos within the pellet plant.
From there, iron ore fines are
dried in the rotary kiln to reduce
the moisture content below 1%
before feeding it to the ball mills
to get the requisite fineness (-
325 mesh, approximately 80%).
The additives like limestone,
bentonite and coke breeze are
also ground in a roller mill on
time-sharing basis to the
requisite fineness of 200 mesh.
Then the ground iron ore fines
and additives are transported
pneumatically to the respective
silos in ground material storage
unit. Further, mixing in paddle
mixer, green pellet formation in
pelletising discs (balling disc),
feeding green balls in furnace
using double deck roller screen
and heat hardening of green
pellets in indurating machine
shall be carried out. The hearth
layer separation is done using
naturally; the hearth being
reused as hearth layer in the
furnace.
JSPL, Barbil has set up a 5 MTPA pelletization plant with dry grinding technology and adding
another of 5 MTPA pellet with wet grinding technology which is better environment friendly.
Process Description of Pellet Making
The pellet making process takes place in 6 steps:
1. Grounding of iron ore fines and additives and their
storage in silos
2. Mixing of ground iron ore fines and additives
3. Balling unit (for making green pellets)
4. Induration unit (for oxidizing the green pellets)
5. Segregation of pellets and hearth layer
6. Finished pellet stockpiles, stacker and reclaimer system

(CSR) has been making meaningful
contributions to the society in
different areas, for decades now.
CSR activities at Jindal Steel &
Power Limited (JSPL) extend well
beyond its business objectives, and
the company's concerns for the
society are evident from the various
initiatives it has taken in different
fields. JSPL's CSR objective further
gets reiterated through the
company's vision "to be a globally

enhances the quality of life through

JSPL's CSR policy aims at bringing
about a radical transformation in
the quality of life of people living
in and around the operation areas
of the company through positive
intervention in social upliftment
programs. Its key areas of focus
are Health, Education, Women
Empowerment, Livelihood,
Livestock Care, Drinking Water
and Sanitation, Youth and Sports
and Infrastructure Development.
JSPL has always believed in
inclusive growth, taking along the
communities around its plants,
endeavouring to improve the
quality of life of the people in the
areas it operates in. Its focus on
community development and social
issues around its facilities in
Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and

Offering proper access to medical
and other essential healthcare
facilities is yet another aspect of

JSPL recognizes education as one

and considers it as a priority area

education, JSPL has taken a
number of initiatives like
establishing a Global University,
Specialized Institutes and Schools.
O.P. Jindal Community College of
Technology and Skills (Industrial
Training Centres) have been
established to develop skilled
workforce by empowering
competency based, skill oriented,
technical and vocational training.
These institutes offer vocational
training in trades like Electrician,
Welding, Plumbing, Fitting,
Computer Operation, Cutting &
Tailoring, Steno Hindi and Motor
Mechanic. A three months MES
(Modular Employable Skills)
Course is also run by "theses"
institutes. These institutes are
located at Angul (Odisha), Patratu
and Godda (Jharkhand).
The company also runs four ITIs
which have been adopted under
the public private partnership
scheme of the Govt. of India. They
are located at Sarangrah, Kharsia,
Gharghoda in Chhattisgarh and
Barbil in Odisha.
JSPL is also running English
medium CBSE affiliated Schools
at various plant and project
locations like Raigarh, Tamnar,
Nalwa, Angul and Patratu, wherein
quality education is being imparted
to over 9,000 students.

established a global university and

education with a view to producing
world-class professionals, scholars,
and academicians in law and other

9. To assess and identify the needs of the people, a socio-economic survey of the people in the surrounding
areas is conducted regularly by independent agencies through door to door surveys, questionnaire sessions,
focus group discussions and in-depth interactions. Various social initiatives are introduced based on the
findings of this survey.
The Companies Act, 2013, Relating to CSR
Section 135(1) provides-
Every company having a net worth of rupees five hundred crore or more, or a turnover of rupees one
thousand crore or more , or a net profit of rupees five crore or more during any financial year shall
constitute a CSR Committee of the Board consisting of three or more directors, out of which at least
one director shall be an independent director.
(2) The Board’s report shall disclose the composition of the CSR Committee.
(3) The CSR Committee shall—
r formulate and recommend to the Board, a CSR Policy which shall indicate the activities to
be undertaken by the company as specified in Schedule VII;
r recommend the amount of expenditure to be incurred on the CSR activities
r Monitor the CSR Policy of the company from time to time.
(4) The Board of every company shall—
r approve the CSR Policy for the company and disclose contents of such Policy in its report and
also place it on the company's website and
r ensure that the activities as are included in CSR Policy of the company are undertaken by the
company.
(5) The Board of every company shall ensure that the company spends, in every financial year, at
least two per cent of the average net profits of the company made during the three immediately
preceding financial years, in pursuance of its CSR Policy:
Provided that if the company fails to spend such amount, the Board shall, in its report, specify
the reasons for not spending the amount.
In General Meeting of the company, the Board of Directors shall present a report on the policy
developed and implemented by the company on CSR initiatives taken during the year.

12. Keonjhar : Profile in Brief
Keonjhar District is a large district of Odisha. The District is bounded by Mayurbhanj District
and Bhadrak District to the east, Jajpur District to the south, Dhenkanal District and Sundargarh
District to the west and West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand State to the north. Covering a
geographical area of 8240 sq kms. The District lies between 200 1' N to 220 10' N latitude
and 850 11' E to 860 22' E longitude. Keonjhar district is a green land of panoramic beauties
and a store house of mineral resources.
The district is as varied as the whole of Orissa with water-falls of various sizes and roaring
gorges with rolling boulders spreading onwards to the plains of Anandapur, which are a rare
combination to be found elsewhere. This district is highly rich in mineral resources and has
vast deposits of Iron, Manganese and Chrome Ores. It is one of the major mineral producing
Districts of Odisha. Iron ore, Manganese ore, Chromate, Quartzite, Bauxite, Gold, Pyrophillite
and Lime Stone are the major minerals found in this District. The Kalinga Iron Works (Barbil),
Ferro Manganese Plant (Joda), IPITATA (Beleipada), Charge Chrome (Brahmanipal) are the
major names in the industrial scene of Keonjhar. There are also engineering and metal based
industries (53 numbers), chemical and allied industries including plastic industries (48 numbers)
and agro and marine based industries (242 numbers) functioning in this District (Report from
District portal)
As per the administrative set up is concerned, Keonjhar District has got three sub divisions
namely Anandpur, Champua and Keonjhar. There are 13 Tahsils, 13 blocks, 286 GPs and
2132 villages functioning in the District. It is situated at the North side of the state at a distance
of 299 Km from state capital Bhubaneswar.
This region is one of the richest iron deposit area of India. Joda area is a hub for many big
industries related to steel manufacturing. Steel producers like Jindal Steel, Tata Steel, Essar
Mining and Industries Ltd, Aditya Birla Group and Steel authority of India Ltd (SAIL) have
constructed their Ore Processing Plant around Joda. Therefore present economy of Joda is
mostly based on large-scale steel production.

17. At JSPL, health awareness drives are a regular
occurrence where stakeholders are given
counselling on personal hygiene, polio awareness,
eye care and general health. We also organize
frequent health check-up camps for the areas
constraint to access medical facilities on a monthly
basis. The area is prone to malaria which
accounts for 70% morbidity and mortality. Most
of our resources are directed toward control of
malaria. Besides, Tuberculosis Control, Family
Planning Services and HIV/AIDS awareness
programs are also done. Immunization programs
(facilitating Govt. workers in 15 villages), Health
camps on yearly basis (30 villages), free
ambulance service (to 8 villages), financial
assistance to the needy patients for higher medical
treatment are done.
In addition to the dispensary at the Deojhar
Colony which takes care of the patients on the
above stated aspectsand caters the peripheral
villages, we have set up an additional Dispensary
near the Panchayat office at Deojhar making it
more convenientfor the villagers. Several
medicines which are not accessible to them are
supplied at the centre. Some of the basic tests
are also carried out. This is a fixed clinic. Different
branded medicines are being prescribed and
given to the needy free of cost.

Fluids, Pain killers, Multi Vitamins, Syrups, Anti-

of the villagers and working towards the

19. HEALTH CAMPS… Ensuring health facilities in the remote areas!!
As the age old saying goes ‘Health is wealth’.
JSPL has been catering to the manifold plans,
undertaking projects for the welfare and the
upliftment of the people in adjoining region.
Health has been the core issue, and the focus
to attend to this issue is the prime need. JSPL
has been showing its credibility and efficiency
by reaching out to the thousands of people who
haven’t yet got relief in the vital human aspect
of health; it is trying to bring in a drastic change
in their lives, and in turn, in their families. JSPL,
by its unique way of functioning, attends directly
to the people’s needs; this has instilled hope in
the lives of people who were hopeless and
depressed. Modern diagnostic techniques, quality
doctors and surgeons and other advanced
medical facilities are beyond the reach of these
our impoverished people. With all these
inconveniences and difficulties it would be very
difficult for the indigenous people to have access
to various medical check-ups and other medical
facilities.
In association with the Govt. of Odisha, (CHC
Basudevpur) JSPL has been serving the community
in the last series of the events (Mega Health
Camps) across the Joda Block. We have been
serving to almost about all the villages creating
some awareness to take some precautionary
measures and avoid taking any health risks.
Banners and other placards along with
propagandas are used as educational and
informative means to make the message clear
and far reaching to all the people. Besides this
the AWW, ASHA, ANM has been a constant
support for spreading awareness. Care is being
taken so that message reaches each and every
household.
With regard to the above cited JSPL, Barbil has
successfully organised a Mega Health Camp at
various locations (09 places)out of the series of
Health Camps that are to be organised across
the Joda Block every month for the session 2013-
2014 in collaboration with the District
administration.

20. The camp has availed medical facilities to about
9759 people. The camps provide free medical
check-ups and medicines to the villagers. People
from adjoining villages also gather in whopping
numbers. Old and aged people are also found
in huge numbers. Paediatrics and gynaecology
was more emphasised in the camp as majority
of the patients belonged to that category of
children and women and partly because the
children are more prone to the seasonal diseases
and malnutrition. Utmost care is taken in
diagnosing and prescribing medicines. The camps
start at 9.00 am and last till 4.30 pm.
Different medicines are prescribed and given to
the mass free of cost. Medicines such as
Antibiotics, Oral Fluids / IV Fluids, Pain killers,
Multi Vitamins, Syrups, Anti-malarial, Folic acid
tablets, cold and fever are provided. Besides this
Diabetes check-up, Blood pressure check-up,
Blood test was also done by the lab technicians
and pathologists team. Medicines for the
orthopaedics and adolescent girls are prescribed
in numbers. Additional Doctors are present to
address the need of the villagers and for smooth
functioning of the camp. Medicines for skin are
given in high numbers too. People with ENT
problems are addressed by specialised doctors.
It is well known that the company also helps in
referral treatment.

Achievements:
It has been a tremendous effort of JSPL, Barbil to educate and aware people about the disease.
It is well known that these indigenous people are not privileged enough to meet with basic

simple aids. Hence JSPL tries its best not only to provide free check-ups and medication, but also

23. Anaemia affects a quarter of the global
population, including 293 million (47%) children
younger than 5 years and 468 million (30%)
non-pregnant women. In addition to anaemia's
adverse health consequences, the economic
effect of anaemia on human capital results in
the loss of billions of dollars annually. Analysis
shows that anaemia is disproportionately
concentrated in low socioeconomic groups, and
that maternal anaemia is strongly associated
with child anaemia. Anaemia has multifactorial
causes involving complex interaction between
nutrition, infectious diseases, and other factors,
and this complexity presents a challenge to
effectively address the population determinants
of anaemia. Reduction of knowledge gaps in
research and policy and improvement of the
implementation of effective population-level
strategies will help to alleviate the anaemia
burden in low-resource settings.
Concept:
Kishori Express, as the name suggests, is
dedicated to adolescent girls- a mobile health
unit which moves from one village to another,
equipped with an electronic, interactive touch
screen facility with a health quiz, facilities for
haemoglobin check-up, provision of nutrition
seed kits and iron and folic acid tablets for heavily
haemoglobin-deficient girls. The health of a new
born child depends upon the haemoglobin level
of its mother. JSPL ensures to improve this level
of would-be mothers by providing them with IFA
(iron folic acid) tablets and iron-rich seed kits.
In terms of adolescent health, the morbidity
patterns and psycho social needs of this
population are different. The greatest challenges
still are malnutrition and anaemia, wherein age
of marriage is also a major concern. Almost
36% of the adolescent girls in the state are
married, which indicates the need of bringing
up the mean age of marriage to a healthy level.
Cases of neonatal mortality (54.2%) and infant
mortality (76.5%) are highest among women
aged less than 20 years in the country (NFHS-
3). Health education, practices and behaviors,
especially in the reproductive and sexual health
areas, also need to be attended for this age.
Adolescent specific health services are in a very
preliminary stage in the state which needs a lot
of prominence
To address this Kishori Express is launched on
PPP mode by JSPL in Joda block with the close
involvement, participation and support of the
DSWO and CDMO at the district level and CHC
Basudevpur and ICDS of Joda and the ICDS
scheme of the government of India, which targets
to the decrease in the anaemia rates and also

24. for the reduction in MMR and IMR.
Joda a block in the Keonjhar district is comprised
of a major population of tribal population. A
concept of early marriage is still prevalent in this
area. This programme shall target the young
adolescent girls (Kishori) towards the sensitisation
and awareness generation for the healthy habits
and safe practices. The vehicle shall roll to the
interiors with a target for maximum coverage of
population. Apart from this the young adolescent
girls will be able to be self-reliant and aware
about their health needs and conditions. This
shall run in collaboration with the ICDS - under
NRHM and based in monthly operating plans.
The girls with low haemoglobin level are referred
tothe nearby Anganwadi centre and given IFA
tablets as after 90 days this will be monitored
regularly.

26. In partnership with Community health center, Basudevpur and District Administration
we have organized 4 sterilization camps in which 400patients were operated. Out of
four, one was male sterilization camp and the other three were female sterilization
camps.

27. Ambulance Services (24 X 7) - PROMOTING INSTITUTIONAL DELIVERY:
Emergency medical services are a type of emergency service dedicated to providing out-of-hospital
acute medical care, transport to definitive care, and other medical transport to patients with illnesses
and injuries which prevent the patient from transporting themselves. A dedicated ambulance has
been deputed for the community services. This meets the emergency as well the casual needs of
the villagers. This mainly serves to the delivery needs of the pregnant women. Besides this it also
serves the emergency calls like those for burnt, snake bites, those of patients suffering from
fever/cough and cold. This dedicated ambulance also serves for taking patients referred for higher
treatment. Also the childcare needs are met with the help of the ambulance.

Apart from steel making a major concern of ours has been to focus on the Development of the
periphery as a whole. As such one such an event a number of medical instruments was handed
over to the District Hospital. This is to cater to the health needs of the entire district ( especially
the Champua and CHC Basudevpur region) where patients despite having financial challenges
has to rush to the nearby cities or had to pay more for going for tests and examinations during

Anti-Larval Mosquito Fogging in the Peripheral Villages -
A Health and Sanitation Drive
Malaria morbidity and mortality are major
public health concerns in India. The disease
is greatly affected by social and economic
conditions and is referred to as both a disease
of the poor and a cause of poverty. The
marginalized, poorer sections, mostly rural
and tribal with low socio-economic status,
limited access to quality health care,
communication, other basic facilities, lack of
appropriate behavioral change, are often the
worst sufferers.
The direct costs of malaria include a
combination of personal and public
expenditures on both prevention and treatment
of the disease. The indirect costs of malaria
include productivity or income loss due to
illness or premature death. Although difficult
to express in financial terms, another indirect
cost of malaria is the human sufferings due
to the disease.
To address the needs of the peripheral villages
an initiative of anti-larval mosquito fogging
is being carried out at an alternative of fifteen
days in the project affected villages of
D e o j h a r, S i l a i j o d a , K i t a b e d a a n d
Gobardhanpur. This has reduced the number
of malaria cases to a certain extent and also
has led to an awareness generation in these
villages.
Referral Treatment
Approximately 1.2 billion people in the world live in extreme poverty (less than one dollar per day).
Poverty creates ill-health because it forces people to live in environments that make them sick,
without decent shelter, clean water or adequate sanitation. At global level, this experience is
synthesized to form recommendations on best practice. Health and poverty issues differ markedly
from country to country contexts, with countries emerging from and affected by conflicts presenting
a particular challenge.

This year we have supported two of the patients who
were referred for assistance in higher medical treatment.
Master Prashant Barik-below son of Mr Nanda Kishore
Barik) from Mahadevnasha had Cyanotic heart disease
and Master Pradhan Munda-right son of from Dampur
was suffering from Brain Tumour.
Referral Treatment is the process of directing or redirecting to an appropriate specialist or
agency for definitive treatment. JSPL has been referring patients to higher treatment centres
with better facilities & chances for better survival in the future. Till date several patients have
been referred & the entire expenditure incurred towards it has been borne by the company.
Blood cannot be manufactured - it can only
come from generous donors. Every day, hundreds
of especially open heart surgery, there is need
for fresh blood and therefore a need for donors.
Donating blood means giving a second chance
to a person at life to someone unknown. Here
awareness programmes on the relevance of the
blood donation programmes is also done that
primarily consists of the facts and figures as well
as other statistics those are required in this
regard.
Here time to time based on the district
administration's requests, from the company's
end as well as per the request of the several
youth clubs and organisations JSPL has been
acting as major contributor in this regard. Apart
from that on the account of Babuji's Birthday
Blood Donation camps have been organised
over the yaers.

30. One of the most significant indicators of social
progress is education, which also plays a decisive
role for a society to achieve self-sustainable and
equal development. With an increasing global

31. HIGHLIGHTS OF ACHIEVEMENTS &
KEY INITIATIVES (2013-2014):
• Education at Primary and UP Schools: Additional Teachers are provided and stipends for school
teachers.
• Provision of books, uniforms and shoes to theBalwadi centersnamely at Deojhar, Bentkarsahi,
Kiatbeda and Sialijoda. There are about 98 students the teachers are also provided honorarium
and incentives.
• Assistance to AVS- We are privileged to extend our support to the residential school established
by Padmashri Dr. Tulasi Munda exclusively for tribal children, to which our Company supports by
funding Rs.12 Lacs. This is done by providing rice, uniform materials and a dedicated pharmacist.
There are about 670 children in the school. In addition to this year, musical equipments are
provided for promotion of sports and culture. Additionally infrastructure development projects are
being focused on at the AVS. Also financial aid is being provided for the excursion trips of the
students.
• Construction of additional classrooms in school villages 1000 children + teachers (beneficiaries).
• Provision of beds (cots) along with plates and glasses to the ST students across the Joda block
is major activity that has been undertaken this financial year.
• Financial support to VedVidyalaya, Keonjhar for infrastructure development (construction of
School building) of the institution.
• Financial assistance to Saraswati Sishu Mandir (Bhadrasahi)for various educational and cultural
events.
• Support / financial aid to ManaManjariSishuMandir, Keonjhar.
• Financial assistance towards construction of boundary wall at Barbil College.

32. PROVIDING SOCIAL TEACHERS IN THE PERIPHERAL SCHOOLS
The Education Commission (1964-66) has
emphatically opined that "The quality and
competence and character of teachers to be the
most significant factor influencing the quality of
education and its contribution to National
development."
A nation is built by its citizens, citizens are moulded
by teachers and teachers are made by teacher-
educators. Chanakya has rightly stated, "Teacher
is the maker of nation" So for the development
of the country, it is very important to have good
teachers and good teachers can be produced
only if we have a good system of teacher
education and dedicated and efficient teacher-
educators.
The teacher can be rightly called a nation builder.
Teachers through their perseverance love and
sacrifices have shown us the right path in which
great men have built our nation. It is our dear
teachers who mould our character, our personality
and show us the right direction which leads us
to our final destination.
Enlightened, emancipated and empowered
teachers lead communities and nations in their
march towards better and higher quality of life.
They reveal and elaborate the secrets of attaining
higher values in life and nurture empathy for the
fellow beings. Teachers are the torch bearers in
creating social cohesion, national integration
and a learning society. They not only disseminate
knowledge but also create and generate new
knowledge. They are responsible for acculturating
role of education. No nation can even marginally
slacken its efforts in giving necessary professional
inputs to its teachers and along with that due
status to their stature and profession.
By keeping in view about the importance of
education, JSPL has tried its best to provide
additional teachers in the peripheral schools
where there is shortage of teachers. Over the
past since the initial years of operation the
company has also taken an initiative to adopt
the Dhabaleshwar high School, which is the only
high school in the Deojhar Panchayat. Also, ther
company has been providing its best to ensure
proper maintenance facilities throughout the
year to the adopted school.
A total of 30 teachers have been provided
across several schools located in the
Panchayats of Deojhar, Kandra, Birkela and
Anseikala.
This is benefitting to a 5000 children across
these schools over the past. In addition there
has been increase in the enrolment ratio as
well as the performance of the students in
the Matriculation Examination also.

Education especially primary education, is
recognized as one of the top priorities by the
United Nations as a significant dimension of the
goal toward which human beings should head,
only second to eradicating extreme poverty. One
of the most significant indicators of social progress
is education, which also plays a decisive role for
a society to achieve self sustainable and equal
development. With an increasing global
realization of how business community can (and
should) contribute to social objectives, education
deserves a higher level of corporate involvement
than status quo. While the definition of education
is broad, involving multiple levels and largely
differs among countries of different development
levels;we choose to focus on the primary
education issues mainly which has tight links with
entire social progress and poverty reduction.
Anticipating a major transfer in how teaching
and learning are implemented, we are in
continuous effort to bring the changes that help
fight against illiteracy and poverty. It is therefore
we promote the education right at the grass root
level. We motivate the students at each and every
opportunity.
Scholarships and Sponsorship policies are
implemented at all levels. However our
scholarship policies are meant for promoting
higher education. Sponsorships are for all the
meritorious students. Scholarships of Rs. 4.25
Lacs benefiting 15 students of the adjoining
villages have been distributed in the FY 2013-
2014 and 10 students have been sponsored for

Dhabaleswar high school has been adopted by JSPL gets full priority and benefits that any school
or educational institute would have. The school is provided with many facilities and support right
from development of educational attributes to infrastructure up gradation. We leave no stone
unturned to make the students fulfill their dreams and become successful in their endeavors. For
full fledge education, the students are provided with test papers, books and other study materials.
They are also exposed to various educational trips (Exposure visits) from time to time. Counseling
of the students is done on frequent basis. Counseling related to educational and personal front
are catered to the students from time to time. For recreation purpose the students are being sent
on excursions and picnics. In addition to this provision of safe drinking water is provided. The
teachers are also provided with uniform so as to maintain equality and inculcate sense of pride
and belongingness. For creating more awareness on our traditions and imbibing moral values we
also organize and assist in the annual functions, various Pujas (Ganesh Chaturthi and Saraswati
Puja, etc.). Promotion of sports is done and annual sports functions are also organized here at
the school. Various National day celebrations are emphasized on grand scale. Various competitions
are arranged to help the students to be aware of the world around we also bear the network and

35. This is an Orphanage situated in the
district head quarter of Keonjhar.
Towards the betterment of the children
and for better accessibility of
educational facility to them the
company has been helping the institute
with a noble cause from the starting of
its operation in this area.
Currently, there are 40 children in the
Orphanage who are the direct
beneficiary. Also, in the special
occasions, sharing joy and happiness
is a mandatory activity carried out from
the company’s end with them.

Situated amidst the nature with sparse human
habitation, Jindal School creates a conducive
atmosphere for the all-round development of
the students and provides an excellent opportunity
for the budding talents to unfurl themselves. The
School, a flower along with its string of accolades
has bloomed in the lush valley of Soyabali (Barbil)
in 2003 under the patronage of Jindal Steel &
Power Ltd.Embarked with a small team of 27
students and 2 faculty members; today the school
accommodates 945 students right from LKG to
class XII under the dynamism of 42 teachers.
The School provides all infrastructures like well-
equippedlaboratories (Biology, Physics, Chemistry,
Maths and Computer) with advanced
equipment,library, and well-furnished hostel,
School bus facility for day scholars, canteen and
exposure to curricular and co-curricular activities.

established at Barbil in August 2011 with the

market demand jobs. Students are provided with

students, the intention of the community college

To create sustainable communities, providing
housing and employment opportunities alone is
not enough; there is a need to provide the
necessary supporting 'infrastructure' to support
the local population and those who visit or work
in the area. Infrastructure can take many forms:
physical infrastructure such as roads, energy
supply, water supply and drainage; green
infrastructure such as sports pitches, parks; and
social & community infrastructure such as schools,
doctors' surgeries, emergency services, community
facilities. Infrastructure planning is a shared
activity.India's rise in recent years is a prominent
development in world economy. To heighten this
development even further there is a need to
remove the gap between the rural and the urban.
To achieve this end, all that is required is a blend
of purpose led business strategies and thoughtful
initiatives. We work very closely with Habitat for
Humanity.
Infrastructure yields indirect benefits through the
supply chain, land values, small business growth,
consumer sales, and social benefits of community
development and access to opportunity. With
improved connectivity, for instance, economy
and social development literally moves into the
areas connected. Lack of access to infrastructure
can be measured in terms of under-provisioning,
relative to the rest of India as well, as in terms
of high unmet demand in key areas such a
transportation, telecommunication & power. It is
an important term for judging a country or
region's development.

Also, the following activities are carried out this year in the adjoining villages

Rural electrification has been always an important
activity that has been carried out by JSPL. This
was to ensure the electricity supply in the
peripheral villages. Every year after selection of
the village where there is no electricity this has
been planned village wise each year gradually.
Some villages in our operational area had no
access to electricity, JSPL has addressed this need
from time to time and in collaboration with
NESCO lying of LT Lines, Poles and Transformers
which was the major requirement had handed
over the entire set up to NESCO for the power
supply.
The villages under BirkelaPanchyat, Village
Birkela( Rupasahi, Gomasahi and karansahi)
where the company has extended full support in
providing the electricity facility.
About 7,00 people are the beneficiary. They are
direct beneficiaries, and it is further ensured the
supply of electricity to consumers so as to avail
power supply / electric connection through
NESCO (to the desired) after applying for
individual electrical connections.In addition,
yearly solar streetlights had been provided time-
to-time based on the need and promotion of
alternative sources of energy.

- This aims at facilitating e - Governance
at the collectors office for citizens benefit.
To support the project the company has spent an
amount of 1.2 crores in the FY 2012-13 for the supply
of entire IT materials (Printer, Scanner, LCD Projector,
Laptop, External Hard Disk Drive, UPS, 1KVA W/Battery
Back up, DG Set, 20KVA, aqua guard, Air Conditioners,
Computer, Personal), logistics as well as till date the
manpower required are being provided from the
company's end. This has benefited the population of the entire District and has made the file
management system hassle free.
E- Upasthan– This aims at monitoring the attendance of Govt offices at the block, Tehsil and
CHC’s.
JSPL has taken up the job for assisting the district administration and till date 170 Biometric
Attendance System (BAS) Devices, Laptops and Printers have been provided. The project is on an
operational phase now and is continuing. This is benefitting the interior locations as mentioned
in the project plan.
Currently the manpower cost to run the projects is also provided from the company's end
in the financial year 2013-2014.

GHATAGAON PROJECT
In addition to this in the current financial year
we have to our project the Infrastructure
development projects undertaken for Ghatagaon.
Ghatagaon is a major tourist place in the
Keonjhar District.
Maa Tarini Temple: It is the main shrine of
MaaTarini who is regarded as the embodiments
of Shakti. She is one of the chief presiding
Goddess in Oriya culture. Every year thousands
of devotees visit the temple to worship MaaTarini.
MaaTarini is one of the embodiments of Shakti.
Her chief shrine is in Ghatagaon, Keonjhar
District, Odisha.
Two no's of "WELCOME GATES" are constructed
along the entrance and exit points of Ghatagaon.

progress).

The process of globalisation is very fast and in
fact rapid and thereby proving the saying "World
is a global village". Today towns and cities are
growing rapidly in developing countries and the
process is often accompanied by high levels of
poverty and hunger. At JSPL our main objective
is to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger by
enhancing income, ensure environmental
sustainability by reversing the loss of
environmental resources. We believe livelihood
comprises the capabilities, assets (stores,
resources, claims and access) and activities
required for a means of living: a livelihood is
sustainable which can cope with and recover
from stress and shocks, maintain or enhance its
capabilities and assets, and provide sustainable
livelihood opportunities for the next generation;
and which contributes net benefits to other
livelihoods at the local and global levels and in
the short and long term. In Sustainable Livelihood
our programmes aim at providing livelihood in
a locally appropriate and environmentally
sustainable manner through -
Imparting training in agriculture to small farming
villagers.
Promote enterprise development
Promote self-help groups and thus
entrepreneurship.
Promotion of Agriculture - Small Scale
Farming through SHGs
As a large share of the villager's disposable
income is spent on food. Agriculture can help
buffer the effects of such crises. Agriculture is
largely a rural phenomenon and improves the
access to fresh vegetables, fruits and animal
products. This mechanism would be particularly
relevant in areas where inadequate infrastructure
and heavy losses in transit add to the scarcity
and cost of agricultural produce.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the
agricultural sector has a significant role to play
to promote agriculture. We believe our
engagement can also promote food security and
positively affect the livelihoods of smallholder
agricultural producers in adjoining areas. We
aim to contribute to the sustainable intensi?cation
in agriculture. Our livelihood programs aims
and ensures many rural dwellers to engage in
farming activities to help satisfy their food needs.
It can involve anything from small vegetable
gardens in the backyard to farming activities on
community lands by an association or
neighbourhood group.
Therefore we actively promote the agriculture in
this region. There are four no's of agricultural
committees formed this year and supported, the
details are mentioned below:

It is also observed that the poor rural dwellers are more likely to participate in crop and livestock
production than richer households. This helps them in getting more and better food. These
agricultural produceare generally geared towards consumption within the household.
We also provide technical guidance and training on good production techniques, for example,
minimize risks such as health hazards (malnutrition) along with promoting alternative income
generating activities, expanding non-agricultural employment opportunities or improving the
functioning of urban food markets.

which is located in the Block head quarter of
Ghatagaon in Keonjhar district of Odisha. Every
day large number of devoteesvisitsthe temple for
worship the presiding deity Maa Tarini and offer
coconuts.
The temple trust receives around 20,000 coconuts
per day which comes out 2190 Lacs coconuts
annually.The coconuts are received as offerings
to the deity. Due to lack of a processing facility
/ technology to cater such a huge no of coconut
to produce oil, most of the coconuts are destroyed
and become unutilized. This hampers the huge
revenue along with production wastage that
could have been generated.
With the help of ORMAS and DRDA, Keonjhar
presently 167 women SHG members from 15
SHGs are engaged in production of coconut oil,
but due to unavailability of any mechanised
processes, the membersprocess the coconuts in
local and traditional methods, thus directly
affecting their production capacity as well as
income.
So with the help of JSPL thorough CSR activities,
District Administration is trying to mechanize the
entire process that will help in getting the entire
coconut processed into oil. It will directly increase
the revenue of temple, provide livelihood to the
poor SHG women and also it will reduce the
wastage of coconut around the temple.
Biggest Strength of Maa Tarini Coconut oil unit
is available of huge amount of raw material
(Coconut) at a subsidized rate and also huge
network of tribal Ashram School where the final
product can be easily sold and also there is a
high demand of Maa Tarini coconut oil among
the tourist coming to the temple.
PROCESS
For the extraction of oil from copra, the common
method used is using of expellers. Well dried
copra with a moisture content not exceeding 6
per cent is cleaned well from any foreign matter.
It is then cut into small chips in a copra cutter.
The chips are fed into steam jacketed kettles and
cooked mildly at a temperature of 70o
C for 30
minutes. After proper cooking, the cooked
material is fed into the expeller continuously and
pressed twice. The combined oil from the first
and the second pressing is collected in a tank
provided separately. This oil is filtered by means
of a filter press and stored in MS tanks. Bulk
packaging is done in tin containers. HDPE
containers and polymeric nylon barrier pouches
are used for small consumer packing. The quality
of copra is related to the quality of coconut oil.
The oil cake obtained as a by-product will find
a ready market as a cattle feed and in the
manufacture of mixed cattle feeds or as a raw
material for the extraction of remaining oil by
solvent extraction method.

o 167 women members from many SHGs come to a common platform and a cooperative
approach is there in the making of Coconut oil and its marketing in MukundapurPatana.
o Production period will be increased from 9 months to 1 year due to introduction of drying
machine.
o Skill upgraded, Mechanized production process practiced so the Productivity, Production
enhanced, quality improved to high quality status.
o Quality of the product will be increased or can say at par with Shalimar, Parachute
o Production, Packaging and Storage at CFC level.
o Cost of production will be reduced
o "Kendujharee" brand developed.
o Product self life has been increased from 01 months to 06 months.
o Purchase of Raw Material in Bulk from Tarini Temple Trust will be done.

Departments encourages and promotes scientific
pisciculture among the communities. Over the
past years some of the ponds are desilted and
also renovated. The beneficiaries are encouraged
to adopt Pisciculture. These groups are provided
with the fingerlings / fish seedlings free of cost
as an aid. This is mostly done during the rainy
season. This gesture of ours is towards assistance
of 59 ponds of the adjoining 9 villages.
Also one community MIP is selected for distribution
of fingerlings. Prior to it, every year about 2
Lakhs fingerlings were purchased from the Govt.
fisheries and distributed. The main objective is
to strengthenvillagers and the community as a
whole economically. This also becomes a source
of regular income generation. Our focus is mainly
in the villages of Sialijoda, Gobardhanpur,
Dampur, Mahadevnasha, Deojhar, and Balita.
Fish Seedling Distribution - Promotion of Pisiculture
We have been promoting the
cultivation of vegetable at the backyard
to the several beneficiaries associated
with us. In this regard promotion of
this habit and thereby supplying of
seeds has been taken up. This has
been practised by the R&R Colony
residents, the farmers of the peripheral
villages. In the long run we have a
vision to promote this at a larger scale
in the peripheral villages.
Backyard Vegetable Cultivation/Farming
49. Sport is a useful tool, in various ways, to build social capital, foster community development, and
build sustainability. Many positive outcomes can be been achieved by using sport in this manner.
Sports and culture contributes to social capital through fostering social inclusion and community
development, they do have substantial social value.
We at JSPL effectively use sport in social development and as a vehicle to contribute to development
of social capital/social inclusion within disadvantaged communities.
Moreover, it involves employees and suppliers, as well as building good community relations. JSPL
believes, sports have merits in the holistic development of children and youth and therefore we
promote sports into our CSR activities. Developing interest amongst the youth for sports is also a
major objective behind this. Sports like football tournaments, boxing are promoted. The events
such as Football Tournament and Kick Boxing Championship are organized at the villages. We
provide the sports equipments, organise tournaments.
Involving youth in various sports activities and events undoubtedly develops a productive and
peaceful environment in the community. Various events such as football, volleyball, and athletics
on cricket tournament are organized round the year directly or through sponsorships. For the
football tournaments we also supply jersey sets and footballs. To some of the place the financial
assistance is given for purchase of prizes and other requisites such a tent and mike arrangements.

PROMOTION OF MARTIAL ARTS (KICK- BOXING)
arts. Mr Pankaj Mahanta, a professional who
has represented our country at several of the
national and international level tournaments
identified the talented youth and serves at the
Sialijoda UP School as a martial art coach and
is supported by the company.
The Kick-Boxing team consisting of the Children
of Sialijoda who went to represent at the WAKO
India Junior Kick Boxing Championship, 2014
scheduled from the 13th to 16th of February,
2014 has again made us proud this time. Eight
fighters from the sponsored team by JSPL won
medals out of eleven (team members).
KitmeinMunda, ManjuMunda, BabuluMunda,
MadhusudanMunda&GuraMunda won Gold
Medals.FulmatiMunda& Ramesh Munda won
Silver medals. ChandriPurty won bronze medal.
They were accompanied by the Coach Mr. Pankaj
Kr. Mahanta and Team Manager PuranderGiri.
India's one billion people have descended from
a variety of races. The oldest ones are the Negroid
aboriginals called the Advisis or First settlers.
Then there are the Dravidians, The Aryans and
innumerable inter-mixtures of one with the
other.The great Epic, The Mahabharata and the
sacred text, the Bhagavad-Gita teaches the
Indians that survival can only be in terms of
quality of life. It provides a framework of values
to make the Indian culture well- groomed.
We also help in establishing the infrastructure of
the temples and maintenance such as white
washing and renovation etc. Durga puja /
Dussehra, Ganesh Puja is also the major festivals
that are celebrated widely. The Schools, Balwadi's
and the Anganwadi centres are amongst the few
along with the villages where we cater in the
celebration of the cultural programs.
This has helped in leveraging bondage between
the company and the community. Some of the
festivals are celebrated and organised together
in collaboration with the community as a whole
with a total beneficiary and participants of more
than 20000 people across the intervention

"Maghe Parav"- is the most important festival
amongst the tribes of Ho, Oraon, Kisan and Kol.
This is the festival of harvestthat the tribes
celebrate. The festival is observed in honor of
the village deity (Mother Goddess) who bestows
them with good fortune and protects them from
calamities. Maghe Parav is observed in different
villages on different dates of the month. The
villagers celebrate the festival collectively. The
ritual comprises of sacrifice of black fowl, mostly
hen before the deity and offering of Mahua liquor
(rice beer). During the festival everybody wears
new cloth. Drinking, singing and dancing together
are the common traits of celebrating the festival.
So to keep the spirit of the festival and encourage
the cultural aspect in the villages,JSPL hasprovided
a number of musical instruments to the villagers
of Dampur (Mundasahi, Banagutu, Dhipashai,
Marangsahi).

I am happy and proud to release the first CSR Annual Report 2013-2014 of the JSPL,
Barbil Unit. Last year we had published a Journey Report - a compilation of the CSR
initiatives across the area of operation, taken from the company's end over the years of
its operation.
From this year onwards we have planned for a much focussed intervention in line with the
Schedule VII of the Company's Act, 2014 with anemphasis on sustainable development,
ensuring health & sanitation facilities as well as women empowerment in the operational
villages.
I would like to extend my thanks to my collegues & the members of the unit who have
been directly or indirectly involved in the execution of these activities and hope they will
continue to do so with a higher dedication & spirit towards attaining the goal of "Touching
Lives Beyond Business" by participating in the future interventions.
