According to a Gartner study, 89% of companies globally are competing on the basis of
customerexperience. Design Thinking induces a deep human-centric understanding to
deliverdelightful client experiences through the quick iteration of ideas.
Design Thinking provides a solution-based approach to solve problems. It’s useful
in tackling complex problems by understanding human needs and re-framing the
problem in human-centric ways. It helps to adopt a hands-on approach in prototyping
and testing. Understanding Design Thinking will empower anyone to apply the Design
Thinking methods to solve complex problems that occur around us.

In this course, you will learn and follow a systematic innovation process that serves
as a toolbox for stimulating creativity and methodology for defining and solving
problems. This process involves applying concepts of Design Thinking and
hypothesis-driven innovation (popularized by the term lean startup) to design and test.
The content and assignments you'll engage with during this course have been
adapted to meet the specific needs of innovators, entrepreneurial corporate
executives, and business owners who aspire to develop new products, services, or
processes that meet previously unidentified user needs. The goal is to find common
ground between the needs of the user and the goals of the organization.
Early in the course, you will identify your own real-world need to examine through
this process. Much of your coursework will be completed individually. However, you
will work together with team members at key junctions to generate hypotheses and
new ideas that address a real-world need.

Faculty Fellow in Entrepreneurship for 2018-2019
Professor Stefanos Zenios is the Investment Group of Santa Barbara Professor of
Entrepreneurship and Professor of Operations, Information, and Technology. He is also
the faculty co-director of Stanford Graduate School of Business' Center for
Entrepreneurial Studies. An innovative teacher and researcher, Professor Zenios is the
main architect of Startup Garage, a popular Stanford Graduate School of Business
course that each year helps hundreds of Stanford Graduate School of Business’
students and executives learn and apply the innovation processes that are at the
center of the Silicon Valley ecosystem.
He also oversees the Stanford Graduate School of Business Venture Studio- a vibrant
learning facility for Stanford graduate students across all disciplines who want to learn
about designing and creating sustainable, high-impact ventures by testing what they
are learning in the classroom. He previously designed and co-taught Biodesign
Innovation, a project-based course on designing and launching new medical devices,
and is one of the senior authors of a textbook with the same name.
His research interests fall into two broad categories- innovation, and health care. He
examines how innovation can be described as a process with discrete steps and
specific outcomes, and how the process varies with the industry, sector, customer
segment, technology, and source of innovation (startup vs large organization).
He also pioneered the application of data and advanced modeling to improve health
care delivery and treatment decisions and is the recipient of numerous best paper
awards in his field of Operations Research. In the intersection between health care and
innovation, he examines what attributes of healthcare startups are associated with
successful exits (either financial, generating returns for the investors, or clinical,
securing FDA approval). He also currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief for Operations
Research, the seminal academic journal in his field.

Health & Wellness
How can we enable better
hygiene practices in India?
"The pandemic has made
personal hygiene important.
Through collective efforts
and best practices, such
situations can be mitigated
efficiently in the future."
Sales
How can an organization
deliver superior after-sales
experiences for customers?
“With the customer having
access to multiple local and
international brands, one of
the key differentiators is to
deliver a superior after-sales
experience to gain market
share and establish
themselves. It can potentially
prove to be the factor that
decides the success of the
product.”
Environment and
Sustainability
How can we reduce the usage of
paper in offices?
"Adopting the ‘semi-paperless’
system not only helps companies
take a step in the right direction
in protecting and conserving the
environment, but also save
significant amount of money. As
a by-product this imbibes a
mindset of being
ecologically-friendly amongst
the employees and respect
towards the organization."
Retail
How can we improve the
customer experience in retail
stores to enable strong footfall?
“Customers have been skeptical
of visiting retail stores owing to
the pandemic. It is imperative to
assist the customers to start
visiting retail stores again, which
might require a redesign of the
in-store experience."
Recruitment
How to source potential
candidates for vacancies
efficiently?
“Companies invest resources to
find a strong fit for their
organization. With the diversity
of talent in the market, an
effective approach to scout for
talent can bridge the gap
between talent and vacancy, and
reduce time and effort."
Human Resources - Talent
Management
How can we engage and motivate
employees effectively?
“With multiple companies adopting a
remote office setup, it becomes
important to ensure that this does not
diminish the connect of the employee
with their organization. This can also
determine the extent of the employ-
ee’s emotional alignment with the
organization and could lead to lower
rate of attrition.”
